Pauper Vorthos Mono-Red Madness
Mono- Madness + Trample = YOU HAVE AWAKENED THE SHOGGOTH. RUN! AND DON'T LOOK BACK!

"Tekeli-li!"

One of my earlier Pauper decks, the game plan is to discard "into Madness" for a discount on casting costs. Also, this deck is inspired by the novel At the Mountains of Madness, by H.P. Lovecraft, and thus for flavor reasons, I'm going to stay mono-Red.

  • **Professor Lake leads an advance expedition to Antarctica.** As a Menacing creature, Ill-Mannered Nathan can get in some extra points of damage in the first few turns. Then, when he's no longer useful, he's still useful because you chump-n-sac with him for a free Madness-cast and card draw.
  • **Lake's party discovers the remains of prehistoric organisms, but after he dissects one of them, _the rest awaken from their millennia-long hibernation!_ ** Otherwise, you can start faithlessly looting right away, looking for better cards.
  • **When William Dyer and his associate Danforth investigate, they find Lake's camp in ruins, and all the men and dogs killed. One man and dog were even found dissected themselves, as if by some inquisitive monster.** Bloodmad Vampire is the deck's main threat... but only if you can get it going. Otherwise the Akroan Sergeant seems like a decent backup, and Burning-Tree Vandal gets you Madness-triggers and draw.
  • As back-up beaters, we have Reckless Wurm as the fearsome Shoggoth!
  • Since it's mono-red, we've got burn. It doesn't matter if it takes place in the Antarctic. Fiery Temper can hit your opponent's face, unlike the following burn cards, so I recommend taking advantage of this whenever possible.
  • Lightning Axe and Skred can only hit creatures, but they hit pretty good, so use them as removal.
  • Finally, make sure you draw enough cards to stay in the game with Faithless Looting (which has Flashback, remember), Thrill of Possibility and a bunch of Forgotten Caves.
