Sorcery (1)

Creature (1)

so many ninjas

(okay only 10)

But Conspiracy and Arcane Adaptation make EVERYONE ninjas!

how does it win? i'll get back to you.

Turns out it wins quickly and violently.

Creatures are divided into two categories: Infiltrators and Ninjas. Infiltrators are low-drop evasive creatures, preferably with an ETB or other ability (Baleful Strix for example). Ninjas are ninjas that will trigger Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow's ability.

Play a Spire Owl turn 2. Look at the top 4 cards of your library and arrange them how you want, with the highest CMC card second from the top. Next turn, attack a player with no flyers, then ninjitsu in Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow or, if she's in play, a ninja from your hand, and nug everyone with that high CMC card. Then you can recast the Spire Owl and get the ETB again. Rinse, repeat, bounce creatures back to your hand, ninjitsu all over the place. It's a lot of fun.

Of course, there aren't a ton of ninjas, so we hopefully get to Arcane Adaptation or Conspiracy and make the Infiltrators into Ninjas and now we're rolling.

I didn't go for giant CMC spells or extra turn spells like some other builds I've seen. I'm trying to get a number of evasive ninjas, natural or honorary, to do minimal combat damage to the most open opponent, then hitting all of my opponents with multiple Yuriko triggers. The only "big" cards I'm running are Commit, Consign, and Dig Through Time. If you can get Sakashima the Impostor on board as Yuriko but not Yuriko you're getting double the triggers and the damage adds up fast.

One may be tempted to run Wound Reflection but in my experience that card gets you killed immediately.

Important: you will never ever ever pay more than 2 mana for Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow. You always have access to her. The sac outlets, especially Viscera Seer, are great for getting her back into the command zone to ninjitsu her again if need be because you'll never worry about commander tax.

It may be too cute, but Mana Severance is there to take every single land out of the deck. This deck has a very low curve, and once you're in double-digit mana you're pretty good. Mana Severance is meant as a late-game play to make sure that every single Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow trigger does damage. You draw gas and you make sure to hurt your opponents. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds fun.

What I like about the design for Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow is that the deck 100% needs its commander to function and, at the same time, its commander has an ability that makes it easy to get it on the battlefield. It may be the closest relationship any of my commanders have with their deck. They are one in the same. You can only win with Yuriko but that's okay because you always have Yuriko. It's kind of beautiful.

Anway. Fun deck. Looking forward to more tuning.
