Regarding the Zoetic Cavern question: I'm not sure, but afaik, death triggers trigger in the grave, but from the battlefield. Thus, that should work.
Primal Whisperer doesn't work that way, I think, as the face down cards Yedora creatures aren't creatures.

Ok, getting technical again with another question... if I cast Zoetic Cavern as a face-down 2/2 creature, and it dies with Yedora in play, since it's not a token creature, it will trigger Yedora and come back as a face-down Forest, correct?

The banlist would have to be reevaluated for stuff like Charbelcher and Abundance, as you say. But the advantage of a Chess-like ELO system and handicap would be limitless.
MTGO already has a constructed and limited ELO value for every player. You could convert this to the number of Wastes to add to a player's manabase with a simple table.
The advantage is that every tournament could dictate different manabase rules. Maybe an event randomly adds extra Contested War Zone or Zoetic Cavern.
Think about it: the point of the game is that there are five colors that do different things. The existence of Generic Mana is a mistake. By changing the binary state of mana screw/flood to a gradation of how much of each color you have versus how many colorless sources you have, deckbuilding's skill ceiling becomes infinite.

This isn't losing abilities though, it's losing types. A permanent doesn't need to be a creature to morph (see Zoetic Cavern, for example).

It can be used to cast creature spells. If you are casting a creature spell it can be used to pay for the associated cost. It can cast a morph face down (even Zoetic Cavern), it can not be used to flip a morph face up (flipping isn't casting). It can be used for Emerge or Mutate, it can not be used to activate Aether Vial or activate Derevi, Empyrial Tactician.

sergiodelrio Yeah, Zoetic Cavern is not going to win you the game. Better than what I had in that slot, and really running Rath's Edge at all is pretty much useless, so removing one of those is no problem either
