Yorion, Sky Nomad

Legendary Creature — Bird Serpent

Companion — Your starting deck must contain at least twenty cards more than the minimum deck size. (You may reveal this card from outside the game before you start and declare it as your companion. If you do, your deck must follow the companion's restrictions. You may pay to put this companion from your sideboard to your hand at any time you could cast a sorcery. This action can't be interacted with or countered. You may only choose one companion for your deck before the start of each round.)

Flying

When Yorion enters the battlefield, exile any number of other nonland permanents you own and control. Return those cards to the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step.

Fablab on Ravnican Slime

PhyrexianPraetor Most of my instants and sorceries will be exiled so thunder raptor won’t deal as much damage as I would hope most of the time.

Delve cards are interesting but I don’t think most of them are good for this deck, at least this version of a slime against humanity deck since cards are already exiled before they enter the graveyard. Though I will still consider Murderous Cut as a possible addition.

Sword point diplomacy is a good suggestion but the problem with this deck is after all the combo pieces and slimes there’s only 4-6 open slots I can put in so I need them to cover a lot of bases hence invasion of ergamon card selection and ramp. But I have considered making this a Yorion, Sky Nomad deck so I might have space sword point later. Thanks for your suggestions!

Some thoughts:

Since your commander already gives evasion, I don't think you need both Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves.

The group decided Cyclonic Rift is banned in tier 3. I don't know what tier these decks are considered...

Burgeoning is less good the fewer lands you have in the deck. I don't think you will find it as helpful as you would want it to be. I think you have enough ramp to not need it, but if you want something that will ramp similarly to that, consider Carpet of Flowers or Utopia Sprawl.

I like Distortion Strike and Artful Dodge in more casual decks, but I think they are simply less good in commander. I think it would be better to have creatures that simply are unblockable. I do see the value of making anything (including your stand alone commander) unblockable, but only being able to do it twice isn't good enough in my mind. Aqueous Form is great! But some suggested replacements (with extra upsides) for the others are Invisible Stalker, Flitterstep Eidolon, Mercurial Spelldancer, Suspicious Stowaway  Flip, Silhana Ledgewalker, Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun, Surge Engine. I also think these cards would be better than Wu Light Cavalry, Treetop Scout, and Nettle Sentinel (not sure why this is in the deck).

I like a little bit of additional flicker magic for value, but I think Yorion, Sky Nomad and Roon of the Hidden Realm are too slow. I like Brago, King Eternal and Displacer Kitten.

Mavinda, Students' Advocate doesn't seem to fit here. It only works with instant and sorceries that are targeting creatures you control. Yes, it works with Distortion Strike, but Artful Dodge already has flashback, and it isn't good enough to include mavinda only for Cloudshift and Distortion Strike. I think it can go along with the other two.

You have 18 instances of ramp. I think this may be too much. initial cuts: Llanowar Elves, Ranger's Path, and Burgeoning. Growth Spiral is good, but I think you need to be playing 2 more lands to include. Nature's Lore and Three Visits are great, but you need more dual lands with basic land types to make those good. Otherwise, Rampant Growth is better. Other thing to consider here: If you have fewer mana rocks, the better chance that your commander's ability will help you blow up artifacts. I guess in general, you may want to try to limit the number of card types you play.

Treva's Ruins and Flood Plain seem too slow. And again, as a midrange value deck, I think you need to be playing at least 38 lands.

I think Venser, the Sojourner is better here than Sun Quan, Lord of Wu. You can make the team unblockable for one less mana, and if that isn't helpful at the time, you can flicker stuff while you wait. Ultimating is just an insane bonus.

I gotta go, but I will try to come back and offer some suggestions on other cards you should include!

I saw Roon and had to take a look. I have a room deck that isn’t thematic and focuses entirely on enter effects. I can’t make a ton of suggestions because you have a theme for soldiers and I think it’s unique. The only thing I would recommend checking into is 8-10 sources of targeted removal (white has a ton, green can take care of flying stuff or utilizes the fight mechanic, and blue has return to hand effects). Then 10 sources of mana ramp. A good deck composition is 45 sources of mana (lands and mana ramp/ rocks, I usually do 35-37 lands and 8-10 ramp/rocks), 10 removal spells (targeted and 2 board wipes), 30 direct desired effect cards (in this case enter the battlefield effects), and 15 or so supporting effects (tutors, effect doublers, win conditions). Path of Discovery is an amazing card with Roon, as it benefits from the effect of the commander without needing to be a target of his ability. It can strengthen your creatures or give you access to mana. It’s a great support style card. Panharmonicon doubles the enter triggers. Guardian Project gives you draw card every time something enters. Cavalier of Thorns turns into an extra land every turn under Roon’s ability, and it’s a beast with the ability to return a card to your library when it dies. Magewright's Stone allows you to untap Roon and get an extra bounce effect. Yorion, Sky Nomad can be a board wide bounce effect for some really interesting interactions. If you don’t want to look outside of the theme at all that’s understandable. Those are just some of my favorite Roon combos.

Some rather important information OP left out:

The Meathook Massacre is banned in Standard.

Yorion, Sky Nomad is banned in Modern.

If you're hoping to play vs fairly competitive decks in Modern, I wouldn't run many (ideally none) 5, 6 or 7 drops, even 4 drops are slow and can clog up your hand. In a format like Modern, you want to be doing things in the most efficient manner possible, meaning you want low to the ground spells. If you have more than 1 spell of MV > 4 in your opening hand, it's very hard to make that hand a keep! Also, effects that only gain you life are terrible in practice. Blockers are usually not helpful, they end up too small/ineffective, so I'd hesitate before running cards with Defender in Modern unless you have a big payoff for them. Bodies that aren't big for their MV that lack abilities other than life gain often fail to progress the game, keep in mind that Tarmogoyf has lost huge amounts of popularity, and that could be a 3/4 or better for 2 mana. I feel like Ondu War Cleric is not a very impactful card, the 2/2 body isn't very big and the ability does very little. Tine Shrike seems like a strange inclusion, it's not a bad card in the right deck I suppose, but in this one it's clunky at 4 mana and Infect doesn't 'stack' with regular damage, so you could get the opponent to 1 life, and be stuck with only Shrike and need to deal 10 more damage to kill them. Either run lots of infect or probably skip it. Auras are generally not good cards, it's too easy for your opponent to 2 for 1 you by removing the creature. 4 mana for an aura is not where you need to be in Modern. Angelic Gift is probably more fine, since it replaces itself and Flying is a useful ability to have.

Smite the Monstrous feels awful beyond words in a format where people run stuff like Path to Exile, Generous Gift and maybe Fateful Absence in mono-White, 4 mana to have situational removal that only can hit creatures feels pretty bad.

If you want a low to the ground option to trigger lifegain and deal damage, Healer's Hawk is a nice flying lifelink 1 drop.

If you find it hard to cut cards, I think Yorion, Sky Nomad is Modern legal still, and requires you to use an oversize deck of 80 cards, and it's a fairly beefy flyer you always have access to if you need it, which definitely isn't a bad thing.

Nice brew, mate. I run esper blink/flicker helmed by Aminatou, the Fateshifter, so there's a little bit of card overlap there :)

There are a couple minor changes you might consider: Topiary Stomper. I like the Plant Dino because you can search for any type of basic, not just Forests, and it's also a decent body. Elite Guardmage, aka Cloudblazer-lite, is another great lifegain/draw piece. I've never drawn it and wished I had drawn something else. Yorion, Sky Nomad is a really great Flicker effect/enabler for other things. If you have it with Charming Prince / some other flicker creature, you can create a ton of value in very short order.

As far as cuts for any of those? ...That's the hard part, lol.

A few non-budget ideas that I'm including for the reason that they may help give you other, more budget ideas: Brutalizer Exarch -> Eladamri's Call. Eladamri's Call on opponent's end step, get Archaeomancer, play archaeomancer on your turn targeting Eladamri's Call in your graveyard, boom, two tutored creatures. Congregation at Dawn is a more budget tutor that could accomplish this, too (although in that case I'd probably put arch 2nd or 3rd from top).

Panharmonicon - if you're having trouble getting creatures to stick, this can help give them more impact when they can land, even if they don't stick around long.

Good luck, and have fun!
