Welcome to cEDH! Is there a reason for not having Emiel the Blessed for dockside combos. Also, is there another card that combos with Kiki instead of Felidar Guardian? I was wondering if having a Village Bell-Ringer or Restoration Angel would be helpful in the deck.

Hello, I also have a chulane deck that is more on the competitive side. May I ask what your budget is looking like? There are many additions you could make for fairly cheap that would greatly improve the deck. Lotus Cobra pairs nicely with Tireless Provisioner for 2 mana per land Panharmonicon can substitute for Cloudstone Curio to allow Shrieking Drake and Village Bell-Ringer to combo off with mana producing creatures. I understand wanting cards like Edric, Spymaster of Trest and Rashmi, Eternities Crafter and while they are not necessarily bad. They lend themselves to a different gameplan than what Chulane is really good at. I would sub these out in favor of more cheap mana dorks maybe even adding in the elf ball staples like Wirewood Symbiote, Quirion Ranger and Priest of Titania for large mana producing creature to untap.

Heres my list if you are looking for less budget friendly upgrades it would be a good place to start. My list is by no means perfect so keep that in mind. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/chulane-etb-combo/

PrismMTG on Soulless Winotas' Army

Alright, I'm going to try to do my best to split this in half, one half as more casual suggestions/overall sweeping changes to help the deck run better/more consistent and the other half more focused on specific cards, along with an explanation of my thought process behind the points that I'm making. I'll adjust the kinds of suggestions I make based on what constraints you have/want you want out of the deck, for instance, budget, playgroup, power level, etc.

The first thing I would look at, creature balance. Casual: You have a lot of humans to hit off of Winona's ability, but you only have 13 total cards that are non-humans. It may seem like a lot, but thats not all that many, especially when 5 of them are tied to other creatures triggering some kind of effect, thing etb, death trigger, etc. Winona, Joiner of Forces needs you to attack with a non-human creature in order for her to trigger, you have so many things to put onto the battlefield, but not very many creatures to trigger the effect in the first place. Focused: A few of your human creatures seem to be duds, for instance Snare Tactician, you don't have any cards with cycle in your list, so it effectively behaves as a vanilla 2/3. Or take Fearless Halberdier, another vanilla creature. Vanilla creatures usually aren't as good compared to creatures with effects, especially when those effects fit in a theme. So maybe consider, instead of Snare Tactician and Fearless Halberdier, what do you think about Loyal Apprentice and Goldnight Commander? Loyal Apprentice is both a human and will consistently make non humans, and Goldnight Commander seems to fit your theme well.

The next thing I would look at is perhaps creature upgrades. Casual: I would look for creatures that do thing better than what you currently have, whether it be a lesser mana cost, more useful ability, or just finding a theme and finding creatures that seem to fit into that plan you have. Focused: A few of your creatures have drawbacks that hamper them and stop them from reaching their full potential. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the cost for them to reach their full price needs to be worth it. Cards like Wojek Bodyguard, Novice Knight and Ghitu Lavarunner all have hoops to jump through before they can reach their full strength. Legion Warboss is the same CMC as Wojek Bodyguard, also has mentor, but while Bodyguard has another effect that holds it back, Warboss has another effect that gives you even more value. Instead of Novice Knight, a creature with a very useful ability that can easily catch your opponents off guard is Village Bell-Ringer. Ghitu Lavarunner is a fine card in the right deck, but you don't have very many instants/sorceries in your deck, which makes it hard to get to that 2/2 haste creature. Have you seen Ardoz, Cobbler of War? She is slightly more expensive, but she comes with haste automatically and has 2 abilities, one that buffs your creatures and the other makes a creature to trigger Winota, Joiner of Forces.

I'm going to stop there because I've already put down a lot, no need for me to write an entire essay yet.

Eager to hear your thoughts not just on the card suggestions, but also on the format of said suggestions

I love seeing other Alesha lists, and yours looks fairly solid. I have a couple of minor nitpicks, one being that your land and mana rock count are both a little low for my personal preferences, but if they work for you then no biggie.

I wanted to put a couple of (newer) cards on your radar:

  • Preston, the Vanisher is some cool tech from J22. He would create a 0/1 Illusion token of anything that Alesha reanimates with her ability.

  • Village Bell-Ringer is something else that can easily combo off with Kiki-Jiki, and has the benefit of having Flash. Simply Flash it in, tap Kiki to make a copy of the Bell-Ringer and enjoy your "infinite" creature ETBs.

  • Tocasia's Welcome about 18 of your creatures (including Alesha) would trigger it. Definitely something that can be run in supplement with Welcoming Vampire, and dodges a bit more removal than it. Also has the benefit of drawing from Jaxis and Preston token copy ETBs

Worx on Competitive Captain Sisay (Proven)

I too don't sign in to Tappedout much lately so this too is a delayed comment :)

I love the idea of Emiel the Blessed, because not only is it a wincon WHEN you combo it with Village Bell-Ringer, but it also can be used as a defensive tactic when a creature - specifically Captain Sisay. Problem is it requires another creature that is not easily tutorable - but it IS only a 3 drop creature, has flash, and it is awesome to work with Gaddock Teeg. So a definite possibility that I will test.

As far as Drumbellower, its basically a 2 mana cheaper option than Seedborn Muse but still has the same strategic value as it - so it boils down to whether that 2 less mana cost is enough to warrant it being included over other options.

Agreed about Halo Fountain. It's a no brainer Gaddock Teeg proof tutorable wincon :)

Thanks for on going input.

Gashillus on GW Emiel EDH: Blink Toolbox PRIMER

I am running Village Bell-Ringerringer in here and was using him with a few different cards like Fauna Shaman and some mana dorks. But I just got in Circle of Dreams Druid and probably gonna throw in Priest of Titania. Didn't realize how many elfs I have so she will definitely work well. I also through in Stonehorn Dignitary as a good bargaining chip if my combo doesn't pop off quickly. I Basically take everyone's combat away if they don't promise to send it somewhere else

Gashillus that’s awesome! Congrats on what sounds like a great tournament! If you have a list of what you’re running, I’d love to take a look.

Good call on Workhorse, I ran that for a long time.

Another budget solution would be to lean into Village Bell-Ringer with mana dorks that tap for 4+ mana like Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, Circle of Dreams Druid, and Priest of Titania. Just a thought if you’re looking for budget combo win cons :)
