Veteran Motorist

Creature — Dwarf Pilot

When this enters the battlefield, scry 2. (Look at the top two cards of your library, you may put any number of them on the bottom or top of your library in any order.)

Whenever this crews a Vehicle, that Vehicle gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

I play a vehicles deck as well but mine has a stronger emphasis on bonuses from crewing. Creatures like Hateflayer and King Macar, the Gold-Cursed might be worthy of your consideration. Also Aethershield Artificer , Veteran Motorist , and Weldfast Engineer all give a vehicle or two a little boost. Sai, Master Thopterist , Pia Nalaar , Efficient Construction , and Thopter Spy Network are all decent servo/thopter creators; and Master Trinketeer pumps all those creations for better crewing! Then add in Anointed Procession , Parallel Lives and/or ! Doubling Season ! for even more tokens. Start Your Engines and Aerial Modification are good inclusions as well. Some cards that we both need to put in our decks are Padeem, Consul of Innovation , Aeronaut Admiral and Built to Smash . Atraxa, Praetors' Voice and Breya, Etherium Shaper would be great in your deck! Mirrorworks ? Mirage Mirror ?

My idea is to make all of the above as 30 card Modern legal decks, where you take any two pieces and combine them before the game starts to make a full 60 card deck. Each 30 card deck will also have a "champion" - a mythic or rare that is the lynchpin - while the rest of the cards are commons or uncommons. For example, BR aristocrats:

11 lands
2 Brawl-Bash Ogre
4 Corpse Connoisseur
4 Carrier Thrall
4 Myr Sire
2 Fleshbag Marauder
2 Crypt Champion
1 Underworld Cerberus - the champion

This can be combined with say, RW Vehicle aggro:

11 lands
1 Depala, Pilot Exemplar - the champion
4 Veteran Motorist
2 Renegade Freighter
2 Untethered Express
2 Consulate Dreadnought
1 Aeronaut Admiral
2 Speedway Fanatic
1 Caught in the Brights
2 Court Homunculus

You can easily combine the two to make a capable deck. Keep going for the other deck archetypes.

What this idea does is provide a mini-game for more experienced players and variety of gameplay, while less experienced ones get a view of deckbuilding and a form of "smash-up" that is more fun than simply picking up a ready deck. If you want to really spice it up, add some loose cards players can switch in between games - a sort of a sideboard.

For example, with 10 30-card decks, you have 90 combinations.

Last standard had Mardu vehicles aggro, featuring both Scrapheap Scrounger and Veteran Motorist :)

Bushmonkey, perhaps it will be best to post which cards you have that you want to build around and we can work from there.

I'd look at the Dwarves that have a vehicle focus for your creature base. And definitely have more creatures to help ensure you can get your vehicles moving.

Other than that, have you thought about making this RW only? Your green seems underutilized, and having it in there really strains the manabase. You could swap Veteran Motorist for the Companion and Boros Charm for the Heroic Intervention, as an example.

Since you're already in Boros colors, you might find that you'll have trouble with card draw and tempo. A good way to remedy this is with cards like Depala, Pilot Exemplar, Veteran Motorist, and even Bomat Courier. They can help to stack the top of your deck, draw cards, and even buff your trains. I really like the flavor of this deck though, I think it's really fast and powerful. The only other thing I would say is watch your mana curve for consistency. Hope this helps!

Hello TheGamer! Great feedback, much appreciated.

I agree with the removal and veteran motorist. I'll trade off the seal away and cast down for 4x Veteran Motorist. I liked the sagas and since the deck had many artifacts, I thought Phyrexian Scriptures could be of value against Constrictor or aggro red decks. Still unsure about it though. Settle the Wreckage or Fumigate would do the job.

Also, I want to make sure I can deal with The Scarab God or Hazoret the Fervent hence the Ixalan's Binding in the side deck when needed Urza's Ruinous Blast is good since we would keep a lot on the board, but it won't deal with these two gods...

Angrath, the Flame-Chained is a fun card I'll definitely get and indeed, I could put the Glorybringer for grinding.

For the mana base, which of the fastlands would you remove to make place for the ones you suggest? I'd still need enough basic land to have the fastland enter untapped. I was curious how many basic land of each is enough.

Thank you!

I've been playing Mardu Vehicles for a couple months so I can definitely help out, I like your start though.

Your manabase is definitely gonna want some improving. You're gonna want 4 Concealed Courtyards and 4 Inspiring Vantage, and 2-3 Spire of Industry. Canyon Slough is also great as a 1 or 2 of, since you can use it as a mana early if you need it or can draw cards later.

You have too much removal imo. The 4 Unlicensed Disintegration are good, and that's really all you need. The Cast Downs and Seal Aways are unnecessary. If you want to play more removal, look towards Lightning Strike, since it can kill small creatures or act as face damage.

One card I see you're missing is Veteran Motorist, which is one of your best cards in Mardu Vehicles. It comes down early, sets up your draws for the early turns (which as an aggro deck matters a lot), and can crew a Heart of Kiran perfectly.

As far as sideboard, I'm still working on mine to this day, but I personally like more of a transformational sideboard. Really helps in a lot of matchups to pack things like Angrath, the Flame-Chained and Glorybringer to get an edge in grindy matchups. Also I feel like Urza's Ruinous Blast will be unreliable a lot of the time, and running Fumigate or Settle the Wreckage will be better.

Like I said, I like what's going on here, just needs some small tweaks. I'm gonna link my list that I've been tuning for a couple months now, Never before seen Vehicles, incase you want some inspiration. It's a little unconventional though :P. Hope this all helps!
