Nice! Think of Soul of New Phyrexia as a counterspell to artifact removal or as the edge you need for an overrunning attack. Does all of this at instant speed and triggers Imotekh.

Traxos, Scourge of Kroog is just a big robot. Easy cut.

Hey, well done so far, but I think you overestimate needing so many buffs (anthems).

All the artifacts for anthem effects is overkill, you have tutors that can get the better anthem. Adding more repeatable draw sources can do more for gameplay than anthems because more reliable draw helps to draw the better anthems. Coat of Arms, Eldrazi Monument and The Immortal Sun are much better than the other artifact anthems here.

In my opinion anthem effects to be worth playing need to also have card quality for the mana cost. Instruments of War and Hall of Triumph are bad cards, only providing a small anthem effect nothing else for their mana cost isn't good enough to take deck spots. Obelisk of Urd is subpar, but at least it can be mana cost reduced even to 0 with Zombies. Bad Moon is only 2 mana, but there's greater two drops that have much better card quality. Heraldic Banner can be a mana rock, but even so you can do better for a three drop.

Adaptive Automaton is a creature who Gisa can sac and who can be a Zombie lord (anthem), but it's a bad card compared to all other Zombie lords who provide another good repeatable effect. Icon of Ancestry and Vanquisher's Banner aren't worth it since there's too many nonZombie creatures here. You can get more reliable repeatable draw from other sources.

You have Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers and tutors to get them, you don't need Caged Sun and Gauntlet of Power mana effects. These cards are better in mono white, red or blue because these colors can really use the mana ramp. Liliana's Mastery is a very low budget five drop for Zombies, not needed here.

There's several cards in the maybeboard to consider adding main deck if you have them. Areas to focus on improving with cards from the maybeboard are early game ramp, repeatable draw for only you, reanimation and more Zombie evasion.

Other cards to consider adding from the maybeboard.

Some cards to consider cutting:

Good luck with your deck.

Hey, you're welcome.

You're right, a high avg. CMC hurting gameplay can be deceiving if you have reanimation. To help reanimation be more of a factor consider adding some cards that can search for and put card(s) of your choice from your library into your graveyard?

Unmarked Grave is two mana to tutor for and put Wurmcoil Engine or Triplicate Titan into your graveyard, Buried Alive can get both of them, that's better than potentially drawing them especially Triplicate. Or get Razorlash Transmogrant to get this guy going. A reason to play Vile Entomber is Biotransference making it a potentially repeatable effect that can get any card. Entomber can get Bolas's Citadel.

Adding Myr Retriever is a reason to keep Mirrorworks. These two cards combo with Ashnod's Altar for infinite Necrons.

  • Cast Retriever, trigger Mirrorworks to copy Retriever.
  • In response to Mirrorworks trigger sac Retriever with Altar.
  • Resolve Retriever die trigger returning any artifact to hand and trigger Imotekh.
  • Resolve Mirrorworks trigger, pay floating from Altar, creating a Retriever copy.
  • Sac Retriever copy with Altar, returning Retriever to your hand and trigger Imotekh.
  • Repeat

Myr Retriever also combos with Scrap Trawler and Ashnod's Altar for infinite Necrons even on an opponent turn with Shimmer Myr.

  • Sac Retriever with Altar, recur an artifact and trigger Imotekh.
  • Sac Trawler, recur Retriever and trigger Imotekh.
  • Sac a Necron, cast Retriever, sac Retriever, recur Trawler and trigger Imotekh.
  • Cast Trawler and repeat.

This combo you need to make it infinite, for Retriever and for Trawler to repeatedly cast them from your hand. By sacing one Necron each iteration of the combo makes an extra , making for infinite Necrons also makes infinite colorless mana. Workshop Assistant and Junk Diver are other artifact Retrievers who can replace Trawler in the combo.

You still have four cards to cut, consider these four? A direction to consider for cuts is further reduce the mana curve? Traxos, Scourge of Kroog is just a beater, all the other 4 drop artifact creatures here do something else as well as being a beater because of menace. Ghouls' Night Out, you don't need this effect with a 5 mana spell that isn't an artifact.

Batterskull is just a beater and it has a very high equip cost which you can't reduce to use it after the Gem is removed. The life gain from Batterskull could be helpful especially with Bolas's Citadel and Anrakyr the Traveller, but I wouldn't play a 5 drop to get life gain when you can gain life from other much lower mana cost sources. Resurrection Orb is another source of lifelink that also has a high equip cost, but Orb is much better for overall strategy here than Batterskull.

Sceptre of Eternal Glory and The Golden Throne are better ramp than Solemn Simulacrum. A reason to cut Solemn is having lots of four drop ramp is not where you want to be with ramp, 0-2 CMC, some 3 CMC ramp is better for gameplay. Mind's Eye is better 5 drop than Ghouls' Night Out and Batterskull, but Eye could also be cut for lower mana cost draw.

Overwhelming Remorse could be cut for Canoptek Tomb Sentinel? The cost reduction of Remorse can be good, but very situational. The potential repeatability of Canoptek since it's an artifact creature to reanimate is better and Canoptek can exile any nonland permanent which is very helpful effect to have in mono black.

Hey, well done so far. I agree, Szarekh is less good as Commander. Imotekh can be a combo piece for infinite Necrons, that makes it better as Commander.

Szarekh seems good in the 99 though when playing Imotekh as Commander, could put artifacts in your graveyard and if you return an artifact to your hand that you milled it triggers Imotekh. Szarekh flying in combination with Imotekh's menace pump making it 5/6 and playing so many other artifacts it can consistently trigger to create Necrons.

For some cuts to get to 100 cards consider streamline the high CMC cards? The avg. CMC is high at rounded up 3.5, reducing this average can help gameplay. The best here are Wurmcoil Engine, Marionette Master, Bolas's Citadel, Their Name is Death, Noxious Gearhulk. Honestly, you could cut the others, 6 CMC or more, to reduce the mana curve.

Wurmcoil, Marionette, Triplicate Titan and Phyrexian Triniform all combo with Altar + Deathmantle. I don't think you need four huge creatures who do this. Cutting Triniform and Triplicate will not change strategy much as they're the weaknest of the four.

Some cards to consider cutting:

Some improvements within your budget, consider more lower mana cost repeatable ways to trigger Imotekh?

Tortured Existence, if you have two artifact creatures in hand you can alternate discarding and putting into hand each time triggering Imotekh for . Scarecrone can reanimate an artifact creature at instant speed.

Others to consider.

Good luck with your deck.

Max_Hammer on Mardu Treasures

Hello friend! I have some suggestions! I had way too much time today, so here you go.

Relatively cheap, potent, and just perfect upgrades.

This bit is, of course, focused on making as many treasures as your board can bear.

Great, now you have all of these treasures, now what are you going to do with them?

  • Frogmite, Lens Flare, Scale of Chiss-Goria, Tooth of Chiss-Goria, Mycosynth Golem, Slag Strider, Furnace Dragon, and Myr Enforcer are all notable cards you could add, since they pretty much become free after a while, though mostly pretty useless.

  • Forsworn Paladin is pretty good token generation early game, but really shines with the second ability where it can instantly punish anyone blocking or attacking you recklessly.

  • Marionette Master is going to pack a punch.

  • Dargo, the Shipwrecker is super cheap for a 7/5 with trample.

  • Enraged Giant, Freejam Regent, Battle at the Bridge, Saheeli's Directive, Herald of Anguish, and Organic Extinction are all pretty solid additions, since they don’t make you sacrifice anything in exchange for it.

  • Ruthless Technomancer has a million combos with (like Dockside Extortionist+sac outlet) and is just pretty good on its own.

  • Leonin Elder is just one life, but when you’re playing a treasure deck, that one life will definitely add up.

  • Underhanded Designs is a murder or a poke engine, which is very snazzy.

  • Glaze Fiend is pretty scary, considering that it has trample.

  • Dragonspark Reactor could be a bit of removal in your back pocket or your wincon.

  • Arcbound Crusher’s design team didn’t anticipate just how many artifacts I was planning on throwing onto the field.

  • Professional Face-Breaker is just like Grim Hireling, in that it makes treasure tokens, but more importantly, it gives you something else. You get a load of impulse draw, which is really nice when you have loads of mana.

  • Magda, Brazen Outlaw is just an artifact tutor, really. Though, there are plenty of treasure loving dragons you could also fish for. (:

  • Kalain, Reclusive Painter loves treasures, giving everyone big buffs.

  • Swashbuckler Extraordinaire can give anything that might be sensitive to dying double strike for a big final push. That, or just give one big boy double strike.

  • Their Number is Legion gets you lots of life and lots of tokens.

  • Necron Overlord is just a worse Ghirapur, but it’s still gonna hurt.

  • Street Urchin is the same idea as the above.

  • Armix, Filigree Thrasher could be some annoying removal, especially early game.

  • Hellkite Igniter is a big boy that, if left unblocked, could be a one hit kill.

  • Feedback Bolt is a big, powerful spell. To put it simply: ouch.

  • Fain, the Broker can make treasures, can make +1/+1’s, and can make little spooky boys. The best type of boys. Great utility and variety overall.

  • Rain of Riches is big. One cascading spell a turn, whichever one you want? Imagine dropping Feedback Bolt and cascading into Hellkite Igniter.

  • Captain Lannery Storm is innocent… Until you leave her unblocked like a dummy.

  • Concussive Bolt can be an easy kill, letting you get as much damage as you want through.

  • Dispense Justice is just like saying “Fuck your voltron.”

  • It seems you also like having and sacrificing constructs, so here’s a bit to let you do more of that, if you’d prefer to have a construct deck over a treasure token deck.

    • Shared Animosity will give constructs a boost, but there really isn’t a specific theme across creature types aside from that, and your constructs are better used for chump blocking or just turning them into scrap. Ignore this if you’re going for more of a construct tribal sort of thing.

    • Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip is a good card, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it’s really necessary.

    • Rakdos Charm could be replaced with something better as far as artifact removal or graveyard hate. Nihil Spellbomb would be good graveyard hate and Generous Gift is just a good white staple.

    • Comet Storm is fun, but Crackle with Power is more fun.

I remember, also, that when Ixalan came out, I basically overdosed on excitement with the announcement of a Minotaur Planeswalker, since they are my favorite tribe. Angrath, Minotaur Pirate was the face card for the precon Standard deck of that time.

    • Remember those? The 60 card decks that WOTC use to make? This was before they started doing EDH Precons / Brawl decks.

My friends and I were joking about how awesome would it be if I pulled Angrath, the Flame-Chained from one of the two booster packs that the decks came with.

Sure as shit, in the 2nd pack, the last card was indeed Angrath, the Flame-Chained. To say I lost my freaking mind is an understatement.

I don't know, maybe it's just me being a Timmy. But I get super excited over cards others deem as "hot garbage" all the time. Because for me, it's not about winning. It's about playing the game.

I actually just lost two games in a row, to a coworker who wants to learn the game. And it's not as though I threw the matches, either. He picked up very quickly and was using the Dihada, Binder of Wills precon deck. Though, to be fair, he had a T2 Traxos, Scourge of Kroog the first game thanks to a Sol Ring, and then the second game he got out a T3 Verrak, Warped Sengir. Now Verrak isn't in the decklist, but when he bought the precon this was one of the cards in the little 2-card booster pack. That, along with Dihada and Arvad the Cursed was brutal.

And how could I forget, I pulled FIVE Tiamat! :D haha
