Best deck name I’ve ever seen, +100 if I could.

If you’re going for combat damage, adding in Thrakkus the Butcher is amazing in a dragon deck. In my old Myriim, Sentinel Wyrm deck, 2x Thrakkus the Butcher + Atarka, World Render let me wipe out everyone at my table in one turn, it was a glorious day for the dragons.

Some nice (budget) options:

  • Rith, Liberated Primeval: the ward bonus to all your dragons is nice AND you get a chance to create Dragon tokens with him(/her?); overall a great addition and a nice combatant to boot.
  • Thrakkus the Butcher: tremendous boost for your dragons at every attack.
  • Wrathful Red Dragon: will cause opponents to think twice before blocking (or being blocked by) your dragons.
  • Growth Spiral: nothing special but just great value for what it allows you to do, especially during initial game-phases.
  • Patriarch's Bidding: not super cheap but an excellent card to use as a wipe-recovery mechanism; especially in a tribal deck like this.

Oh... Hello there. I just want to talk about some experiences with new cards and some returned creatures. Obviously counting with my playgroup as experience.

First of all, I want to talk about how Cavern-Hoard Dragon is absurd. However the original CMC be like 9 mana, it's incredible how easy and powerfull it can be casted in early or midgame, depending of your opponents of course. Can be another ramp source and damage dealer with Old Gnawbone and Ancient Copper Dragon. In my case, I switched Immersturm Predator for it, because Predator hardly can take care of your battlefield without a creature, or even if your oponent manages to protect their target card in graveyard.

Another change that was added is Last March of the Ents. Almost all dragons have toughness around 4 or more. And this spell was like a finisher, because it cannot be negated, and if you have only a dragon 4/4, it will draw 4 cards for you and drop any number of creatures from your hand to battlefield. It's absolutely insane. I changed O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami for this. I feel this dragon still powerfull, but it's just a target of Tiamat effect, and now we have new powerfull choices to use. Not to mention the need to have haste to give O-Kagachi full potention.

Well, another choices to add or remove that I did: Thrakkus the Butcher -> Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient (Thrakkus was realy unneeded, because swing with my dragons basically end games, just with their original powers. Klauth provides mana correction and ramp based in my dragon's attacks) Greater Good -> Ancient Gold Dragon (This change was more a test than anything, but AGD provides a good sinergy with Last March of Ents, Scourge of Valkas, Terror of Peaks, and creates good blockers. I realy liked the change).

Mana base: I use now all the fetch lands, shock, some triomas and some goodstuffs to ramp and filter cards in the deck.

Maybe, just maybe... Delighted Halfling? Just thinking...

Well, this is just a report of tests and changes in my deck, because is very similar of yours. I want to know how is your opinion about, and what think could be useful or not to us, the biggest dragon deck users of TappedOut hahaha And I want to contribute more here, so that's it... See ya

For global haste you can use Fires of Yavimaya, Concordant Crossroads, Mass Hysteria, and Urabrask the Hidden who will also conveniently turn off other people's haste. Anger and Barbarian Class also give haste after more effort.

Ant Queen, Artifact Mutation, Battle Hymn, Circle of Dreams Druid, Dragon Broodmother, Pest Infestation, Scute Swarm, Tempt with Vengeance, Sylvan Offering, Termagant Swarm are all useful if you can give haste to all of them.

Birds of Paradise is just the best mana dork.

You have green, so you might as well use the standard ramp package with Cultivate , Kodama's Reach, Explore , Farseek, , Rampant Growth, Three Visits and Nature's Lore. Probably ignore most mana rocks, because people are going to want to vandalblast you just because of the treasures.

Relentless Assault, Scourge of the Throne, Combat Celebrant, Hexplate Wallbreaker, World at War grant extra combats, with Hellkite Charger and Aggravated Assault potentially going infinite.

Vandalblast goes in every red deck. Even though youll have a ton of treasures i'd still run Brotherhood's End too

For draw spells consider Scroll Rack, Garruk's Uprising, Elemental Bond, Soul's Majesty, Furious Rise, Rishkar's Expertise, Beast Whisperer, Shamanic Revelation, Disciple of Bolas, Pact of the Serpent, Painful Truths, Harmonize, Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, Read the Bones, Ambition's Cost, Ancient Craving, Damnable Pact, Commune with Lava, Lifeblood Hydra, or maybe Necropotence although the color restricion on necro is tough, treasures should take care of it.

Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer , The Reaver Cleaver , Gadrak, the Crown-Scourge , Ancient Copper Dragon , Old Gnawbone Ziatora, the Incinerator for more treasure makers. Pyrohemia and Pestilence could be fun with the extra mana. Awaken the Woods is an amazing x spell too, but wont appreciate the two aforementioned cards.

If you're using magda the deck will benefit from dragons and expensive artifacts. throw in Imperial Recruiter and Worldly Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, and Demonic Tutor all go in your colors. so you can get her more consistently. Darksteel Forge and Gate to Phyrexia can be tutored into play with her for five treasure.

If you use dragons, you could add Dragonstorm, but you should carefully consider how many cheap spells you expect to be able to cast if you arent building specifically towards this card. Chatterstorm, Empty the Warrens, Yawgmoth's Will, Jeska's Will, Mana Geyser, and Manamorphose, Past in Flames are all good on their own and would add synergy.

If it ends up dragon tribal, cards like Crippling Fear , Kindred Dominance, Crux of Fate

Swashbuckler Extraordinaire is a very good payoff for using treasures if you dont use certain other nightmarish dragons like Atarka, World Render, Blast-Furnace Hellkite, Terror of Mount Velus, Thrakkus the Butcher

Hey jbrown86, thanks for the upvote. I have actually looked at Thrakkus the Butcher. The main two issues are that it doesn't have flying so it'll die pretty quickly, and that on its own it doesn't do enough. 5 Mana for a 3/4 isn't big enough as it doesn't have the protection of flying, and can be easily killed at 4 toughness. All of my dragons need to be self-reliant, so if they are the one creature I drop, double with Xenagos, God of Revels, and attack, they need to be the scariest thing on the table, and a lack of flying is too easy to kill. It's a great card, and thank you for the suggestion, but after a bit of testing he just never really worked out.

Thank you!

This is fantastic +1 from me.

Just one small recommendation. Has Thrakkus the Butcher been considered?

Hellkite Charger could replace Skanos Dragonheart? Both these Dragons want to attack to trigger abilities, but Skanos needs other Dragons to make it good, Charger doesn't. Skanos can't pump itself and doesn't have evasion, Charger can be part of a combo Skanos can't. Thrakkus the Butcher is a better five drop Dragon with trample who pumps itself as well as all other Dragons you control.

There's another combo you could add that creates infinite Dragons with Astral Dragon and the enabler Cursed Mirror provides a wincon, haste to attack. Could of course have other wincons: Scourge of Valkas, Dragon Tempest or Warstorm Surge. Mirror is a good card, you wouldn't just be adding it for the combo, it's a mana rock that if it becomes a Dragon when it enters then Miirym can copy it.

When you control Cursed Mirror that's not a creature have Astral Dragon enter and copy Mirror. The Mirror tokens then enter as Astral and copy original Mirror that's not a creature and repeat. This creates a loop of Astral and Mirror making copies of each other, each copy of Mirror is a 4/4 Astral Dragon with haste. To break the loop stop copying Mirror with Astral, copy something else.

Sarkhan Unbroken would be another fine upgrade, but not when on a budget. $25 for a nonDragon creature card when on a budget seems not a good use of funds. For $25 you could improve the manabase with many land upgrades Reflecting Pool, more Pain lands (Yavimaya Coast, Shivan Reef), some Bond lands (Spire Garden), some Filter lands (Flooded Grove) or some Check lands (Sulfur Falls, Rootbound Crag). In my opinion when on a budget allocating some of the budget for good lands is more important than adding flashy cards such as Sarkhan.

Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner is less powerful than Sarkhan, but it's also less than $2. Kiora can still do much work as another Temur Ascendancy draw effect as well as give you 7 turns of ramp that can untap any permanent including Sol Ring or an Orb.

Shamanic Revelation could be a cut for some lower mana cost draw since you're more likely to have a higher power Dragon then that same number of Dragon creatures. That's what makes Return of the Wildspeaker and Rishkar's Expertise good draw with Dragons is they have high power. Revelation is better when playing little tribal creatures such as Elves which tend to have quantity of creatures rather than single creature with high power.

So here's my take on Thrakkus the Butcher: Dragon Inn. I made a bit more voltron gimmicky, hence the axes and Master Chef. The main differences are mostly due to cards I have lying around. If I was to suggest some cards, it'd be Cosmotronic Wave and Gravitic Punch (granted, it doesn't clock for commander damage, but can be an awesome finisher and the potential to cast it for jump-start can be wicked).
