Teferi, Hero of Dominaria

Legendary Planeswalker — Teferi

+1: Draw a card. At the beginning of the next end step, untap two lands.

-3: Put target nonland permanent into its owner's library third from the top.

-8: You get an emblem with "Whenever you draw a card, exile target permanent an opponent controls."

Some of my favorite Zur Combos are: Teferi, Hero of Dominaria + Stasis // Solitary Confinement + Necropotence // Rest in Peace + Energy Field // Stasis + Azor's Elocutors // Basalt Monolith + Power Artifact // Winter Orb + Mind Over Matter

Sunder, Armageddon, Death Cloud will send your opponents back to the stone age while you fish out more enchants and punch them to death with Zur

Mana Breach, Mana Vortex, Oppression, Overburden are must have stax cards for Zur. The enchantments / creatures that keep your opponents from drawing or casting more than 1 spell per turn are really solid for stax ex: Arcane Laboratory, Spirit of the Labyrinth. Notion Thief + wheels will leave your opponent with 0 cards

Spellskite, Vanishing, Diplomatic Immunity, Steel of the Godhead, Mind Over Matter are all S tier for Zur

Approach of the Second Sun for another easy win con

Have fun crushing your opponents soul

The Reef would replace one of the Vents if it did come in. It's twice the power and hurts their library as well, but I don't know if it will make it in or not. I will do some testing with it and see how it does. Glad to hear the deck is working well for you! I also feel the deck is in a nice spot and it may just not need the shark land, but I do love the card lol.

What are your sideboard swaps when playing against Rakdos Vampires?

I like:

Out 3xFatal Push, 1xJwari Disruption  Flip, 3xTeferi, Hero of Dominaria

In 1xDovin's Veto, 1xVoid Rend, 2xStarnheim Unleashed, 1xSupreme Verdict, 1xThe End, 1xLyra Dawnbringer

Shark Typhoon works really with The End to hit a Vein Ripper and pay the ward cost. cycle on 3, end on 4. My sideboard swaps maximize ways to stop Sorin from hitting board, ways to non-target remove Ripper or get around ward, and gives you more top end power to close out the game, since the Rakdos matchup actually favors them the longer the game goes. Teferi is pretty low impact overall in the rakdos matchup, especially since it cant cleanly deal with a ripper by itself.

I like this concept a lot, and from the look of the list it feels very easy to assemble.

My only thought is that there has to be more obnoxious permanents to cast for 5 mana… you’re not restricted by colour so you can just put any egregious nonsense into play pretty easily. Imo Titania, Protector of Argoth is only really any good in a deck running fetchlands.

I had a quick look through gatherer and the following might be worth considering:

Thank you for the suggestions jdogz32 and wallisface!

I included Teferi, Time Raveler to make sure on my turn I can safely cast spells. I also removed Aether Vial and Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. Then I added Apostle's Blessing for instant speed protection for artifacts Torpor Orb / creatures.

Some thoughts:

  • Aether Vial has no place in a deck with such a low creature count.

  • both Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and Memory Deluge don’t really fit here - you’re not a control deck, and if the game drags on long enough fir you to make use of either of these cards, it probably means your opponent is winning.

  • the deck really feels like it wants a playset of Giver of Runes to protect your board better and prevent getting blown-out.

Rhadamanthus on Dovin’s Veto and the Stack

I feel like I don't understand the follow-up question. A cast Teferi, Hero of Dominaria on the stack is a noncreature spell, so it's a legal target for Dovin's Veto.

To be more specific about the original question: When Force of Will resolves, Glistener Elf is countered and removed from the stack. Next Dovin's Veto will resolve and counter the Counterspell, removing it from the stack. After that there's nothing left to do.

So Dovin's Veto gets its “Can’t Be Countered” value from countering something that cannot resolve? Say, if you’re in a UW control mirror and your opponent wants to play Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and you give it the veto?

Not really. It just doesn’t do enough to protect itself.

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria can remove opposing threats, and untaps 2 lands if you +1 so you can protect it with a counter or removal spell. That’s the reason it’s playable in modern.
