Sylvan Library

Enchantment

At the beginning of your draw step, you may draw two additional cards. If you do, choose two cards in your hand drawn this turn. For each of those cards, pay 4 life or put the card on top of your library.

MysticSnake, thank you for your patience. Since you didn't mention budget, I just put what I thought could work regardless of price point. You should add some non-basics to provide utility, also, add maybe 1-2 more lands just to ensure you don't miss land drops.

Rishkar's Expertise - Draw, either as a replacement or in addition to soul's majesty. Same with Garruk, Primal Hunter

Nylea's Colossus - Big Guy

Bear Umbra - Works well since they can't 2 for 1 u in response to cast. Nice buff and the "ramp" aspect is good, all while being an enchantment

Song of the Dryads - Removal!

Nyxbloom Ancient - Supe ramp!

Herald of the Pantheon/Cloud Key - Ramp

Season of Renewal - Recursion

Composer of Spring and Weaver of Harmony - Potentially worth considering

Rofellos's Gift - I actually don't like this card but worth mentioning.

Creeping Renaissance - Crystal chimes #2 but can be used twice and is more flexible

Overgrowth - Ramp

Sylvan Library - Draw/utility

Greater Good - Draw that is also a sac outlet to prevent theft and exile.

MattMan1982 I'm gonna throw a bunch of ideas at you, some are better than others, just wanna see if anything interests you. I'm not gonna provide any creature suggestions yet. Yours are always solid and I want your thoughts on these cards first.

None of these are needed but definitely are helpful assuming you can fit them into the mana base

Bonders' Enclave - Draw

Cragcrown Pathway  Flip/Spire Garden - Color Fixing

Blighted Woodland/Myriad Landscape - "Ramp"

Raging Ravine/Dread Statuary - Manlands. Nice to use with Greater Good or if you run out of creatures. The Dread Statuary is a personal favorite of mine for that reason

Rancor - Reuseable buff, trample enabler. I like using rancor on selvala and buff with commander for lots of mana should need be

Sylvan Library - Great to set up your draw and ensure you get your land drops. Given you only run 34 lands, that can potentially be an issue, especially given the relatively high avg cmc of the deck.

Skullclamp - Should you ever find yourself needing more draw, this can be an option. It's nice because if they want to use spot removal, they need to do so prior to combat, as you equip it. So if they do, you can pump a different creature and target that opponent.

Momentous Fall - Draw, used in response to removal to gain value. Beware of the blue player though

Return of the Wildspeaker > Garruk PW - Can be used in response to removal so you don't get 2 for 1ed. It's easier to cast and has an additional mode. While the PW has the option to make a token should you need a creature, I don't believe it's impactful enough

Berserk - Super fun! Politics, finisher, all for 1 mana. seriously underrated.

Green Sun's Zenith - Tutor

Decimate - 4 for 1. I see no way for you to deal with a maze of ith. Strip mine can be also used.

You wrote me an essay Profet93, so I took awhile to respond. Will try and address your question comments one-by-one.

Regarding Null Rod: It was in the prototype of this deck, but Collector Ouphe was cheaper, so I opted for the ouphe.

Regarding Snow-Covered Forests: Would probably be better, but I'd rather not pay the $.

Regarding Elemental Bond/Garruk's Uprising vs Colossal Majesty: In 90% of decks I'd agree with you that those two are better, but in this deck, I think Colossal Majesty might be better. I don't have that many creatures ETBing, and sometimes I have a big creature around for several turns. In those scenarios, I think Colossal Majesty generates more value.

Regarding Hour of Promise: Good, but not sure I need it.

Regarding Pir's Whim: Good, and not a card I knew of. Will have to keep an eye out for something to cut.

Regarding Yavimaya Hollow: Too much $. I don't think I need it enough.

Regarding Miren, the Moaning Well: I don't like Miren very much. True it's a second sac outlet, but I consider it vastly inferior to High Market. I really don't like having to pay . And while I'm in trouble if someone blows up High Market, that hasn't happened yet.

Regarding Castle Garenbrig: Should probably cut a forest for this, and probably will when I get one.

Regarding Mirrorpool: Worth considering. There's only a few instants and sorceries I'd want to sac a land to copy, though, and I have to pay . Also, I'm trying to be a bit careful about how many utility lands I have in the deck, specifically lands that don't make . If you have too many colorless lands you can get screwed.

Regarding Greater Good: Was a card I was seriously considering when building the deck, but saccing Kura to it is not that great. Bottom line, though, I thought for sure Greater Good would get destroyed immediately if I played it, which is why I decided against it.

Regarding Nylea's Intervention: Ok, but not sure I need it.

As always, a problem is what to cut. This deck does fairly well, and when that's the case, I'm always leery of cutting a card unless I see something strictly better.

Regarding Abundance + Sylvan Library: Drawing 3 cards per turn with no down side is fine, though it doesn't happen often :)

Regarding Abundance, it actually has some additional tech to it. In this deck I've been able to put every land in my deck into play once or twice. With Abundance, you put the revealed cards you don't get on the bottom of your library in ANY order, not a random order. So if I Abundance to get a land and don't have any in my deck.... I can rig the order of my deck. At that point your basically tutoring instead of drawing. Doesn't happen often, but is powerful when it does.

You also can't deck yourself if Abundance is in play, though that hasn't come up yet. A fun piece of tech, though not for every deck.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I put it off since I knew I'd have to write a lot. Thanks for the suggestions, and I'll think of them, though again the problem is what to cut.

I have replaced Armadillo Cloak, Favor of the Overbeing, Shield of the Oversoul, and Steel of the Godhead with Blind Obedience, Cosmic Rebirth, Sylvan Library, and Trelasarra, Moon Dancer, which reduced the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.71 to 3.68, since those cards far better fit the theme of this deck.

Swapping out Favor of the Overbeing for Sylvan Library seems like a pretty no-brainer swap. The Lifelink and Indestructible on the other two are arguably useful, even though their flying/unblockable are kind of redundant with the commander.

Flowering of the White Tree could probably be swapped for one of the other Demigod Auras, since it gives a static Ward to your commander and other Legends, along with static P/T boosts to your whole board.

Just try out swapping any of the 3. Will probably lead to fewer "feelsbad" moments of getting 2-for-1'd on removal when one of those Auras is on a creature.

DemonDragonJ on Should I Keep the "Demigod …

I used to have copies of the "demigod auras" in the majority of my EDH decks, but I recently have been removing those auras in favor of cards that better fit the theme of each deck (except for my Uril, the Miststalker deck, since auras are a major part of that deck's strategy), so I am now contemplating if I should remove them from my Jenara, Asura of War deck.

At an initial glance, that would seem to be an easy decision, but Jenara herself is often one of the main win conditions of that deck; the deck is not a full Voltron deck, but I do very often rely upon the strategy of summoning her as early as possible and then continually attacking with her while making her more powerful, and the auras certainly help with that strategy, but I very much would to like put both Sylvan Library and Trelasarra, Moon Dancer in that deck, since gaining life is a major theme of that deck.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I keep the "demigod auras" in my Jenara deck, or replace them with cards that are less fragile?

I have replaced Sylvan Library with Witty Roastmaster, which increased the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.63 to 3.65, and I understand that I have removed an excellent source of card advantage, but I do not believe that this deck has sufficient amounts of lifegain to reliably pay for the library's ability, plus the devil has excellent synergy with this deck's main strategy, so I am satisfied that this is change is worth the increased mana cost.

Doombeard1984 on Slivers Everywhere

Hello julsjuj,

Thanks for the response. Just to clear up, in point 5 when I said Brood, meant a general term for your Hive of Slivers, not the card Brood Sliver specifically lol. General comment was would be helpful knowing what your overall win con is going to be in the deck? How you are looking to play the deck out. Are you Aggro, combo, Voltron? Goof thing with Slivers is there ability to shift lanes, as Sliver Overlord gives you access to a toolbox of abilities etc to deal with most things.

I think concerning Patriarch's Bidding we may have to agree to disagree lol. If you have had your board wrecked a couple times, you could feasibly have a combo win in the graveyard that you can win at instant speed, for just . Any haste enabler, Mana Enabler, and a piece of tech on board (an intruder alarm for example) and you just win lol. I udnerstand the concern that someone will benefit more, but I think it is highly likely that in playing such a high synergy deck, you are likely to come out on top.

I do still think that you are maybe missing on some draw effects. Other than the Synapse Sliver you have, you could look at Kindred Discovery, Guardian Project, The Great Henge (this one will likely only cost you with its cost reduction), Sylvan Library, just so you can keep you hand filled with gas.

I look forward to your response :)
