Shark Typhoon

Enchantment

Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, create an X/X blue Shark creature token with flying, where X is that spell's converted mana cost/mana value.

Cambi che io farei:

Ghoulish Procession --> Demand Answers

Cut/Ribbons --> Sorin's Vengeance

Rakdos Charm --> New Blood

Jadar --> Dark Petition

Poppet Stitcher --> boh, Mana Geyser?

goblin4god the changes/reductions you’ve made so far have all looked great, so I definitely think you’re on the right track!

For specifically getting down to 60 cards, i’d suggest ditching the following 7:

  • remove the 2 Talrand, Sky Summoner. You have waay stronger threats already in your deck and this card sits in a weird position of neither posing a massive threat, nor ramping/controlling the boardstate.

  • remove the 1 Eldrazi Conscription. It’s overkill when all your big threats easily end the game by themselves.

  • remove the 4 Tyvar's Stand. You have enough redundancy you can easily afford to lose a creature or two. And you should have enough control over the lategame to keep your big threat alive without needing this.

After that, here’s some other options worth considering for card swaps - i’ve tried to keep budget in mind.

  • Mana Leak is better than Negate - opponents will almost never have the mana to pay the cost, and it hits a much wider breadth of cards.

  • Wash Away is clumsy, and expensive to play the cleave cost. I’d be running Witness Protection instead so you can ruin any of your opponents threats that get into play.

  • Dispel is very situational, i’d probably swap it for 2 copies of Spell Pierce and 2 copies of Spell Snare - both cards which have a bit more universal use.

  • Shark Typhoon is super strong for both offering you early game card draw, and late game free-win-condition. If you have the $$$ i’d be running 3 total (swapping out 2 of your other big-threat cards).

  • if you want stronger card draw, Preordain will probably offer more overall value than Opt.

Good luck with the brew! :)

wallisface on Is Leyline binding worth it?

6 months ago

Yeah Leyline Binding doesn’t feel very good here - primarily because the cheapest you can cast it is for 3 mana, which is far too steep a cost to ever be worthwhile.

Even with a change of manabase to make it effectively cost 1 mana, there’s a few other setbacks which might make it less powerful here than in other decks:

  • Shark Typhoon, Alpine Moon, Rest in Peace, and Stony Silence all encourage your opponent to bring-in enchantment hate from their sideboard, which might make Binding more vulnerable than it usually would be.

  • your deck is neither hard-control, neither focused on card-advantage, so the potentially-temporary nature of Binding poses a bit more of a threat than it would in the decks that typically run it.

I think Binding probably still works in this deck pretty fine, and I don’t imagine it causing any real issues (local meta depending) - but in order to run it your deck would really need to be fielding the landbase to provide all 5 colours (I would imagine you’d want this anyway for the sake of Prismatic Ending, though its less common to require soo many colours for that card).

Nice! I have a budget version of this deck. I would consider Quest for Ula's Temple and Shark Typhoon.

Thanks for the feedback, ZEBR4. Shark Typhoon is a bit too mana intensive as I’m already running a pretty high CMC. Both Tocasia's Welcome and Welcoming Vampire were actually in my original build, but just didn’t make the final cut. Jeskai Ascendancy is a great suggestion, I’m gonna have to see if I can find somewhere to slot it in. I’m not much of a fan of most planes walkers without + abilities. I really appreciate you’re not only taking the time to check out the deck but for commenting as well. May you draw well…
