Have you thought about a single copy of Rhonas the Indomitable?

Seems like it would fit in this shell.

Cuts are always the hardest part. Looking at the list, how about this:

Out: Rootless Yew

In: Fierce Empath

They are similar and can hit similar targets. But Empath costs 3 mana, which feels better for a tutor. I'd imagine Yew being weird in situations were you want to use the creature you tutored for then and there.

Out: Grunn, the Lonely King

In: Impervious Greatwurm

Grunn is big and can be even bigger if kicked. But that'd be 9 mana for a 10/10 you'd have to attack alone with for it to be a 20/20. It has great synergy with your commander, but I'd argue Greatwurm takes a very similar place, can join other attackers in their attack and still is a 16/16 with indestructible. And it will be cheaper than Grunn or sometimes even "free".

Out: Rhonas the Indomitable

In: Zendikar Resurgent

Rhonas is fine with lots of fighting and will propably be online most of the time, but then again, besides the few fighting effects you have, it doesn't seem to have too much purpose in here. It would survive a wipe so rebuilding would go faster if you get a second creature meeting his criteria. As I said, Zendikar Resurgent helps with that as well, and it even helps you with drawing cards.

Funnily enough, I really can't figure out a cut for Terror. I considered Imperial Recruiter, but that has like ten great targets. I considered Stonebrow, because the slight buff won't matter that much, so he's pretty win more. But then again, the synergy with your commander and the other trample tribal cards is simply spicy. Can't really find something else here.

It's great I could help you. I have this Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma deck named Her Royal Fluffness that I'd really like to hear your thoughts on. Mind to have a look?

May the big green be with you ;D

Rhonas the Indomitable's combat restriction and activated ability strongly support a stompy-style deck. I'm not trying to dissuade you from building the deck you want, but I do suggest at least considering other indestructible options like Anara, Wolvid Familiar + a partner, Nylea, Keen-Eyed, or Toski, Bearer of Secrets, each of which offers a different dynamic in addition to indestructibility. Neyith of the Dire Hunt can be played as mono-green if you want to lean into the fight angle, and Kogla, the Titan Ape is another potential commander there.

TurboFog can be built in mono-green. Aside from the Fog effects like Moment's Peace, Sunstone, and Tangle, cards like Arboria, Elephant Grass, Silent Arbiter, and Crawlspace restrict attacking options. Orbs of Warding and Witchbane Orb offer more protection. Heroic Intervention should be a given if you have access to one, and there's a good number of instants that grant single-target protection. You're going to want to draw heavily, so look at artifact-based draw, top-deck searching like Commune with the Gods or Vessel of Nascency, and Sylvan Library, Harmonize, and Greater Good.

Green's win conditions are heavily based around creatures and attacking, and that's only gotten more true in recent years. Helix Pinnacle works as an alternate win con for a slower game, and artifact combos are always applicable.

I want to build a Rhonas the Indomitable EDH deck, but I don't want it to win by being stompy/voltron. I'm not too familiar with piloting mono-green, so I wanted to ask if there are any noncombat-focused strategies in mono-green. (Is turbo-fog a thing for mono-green EDH?)

Why Rhonas the Indomitable? I want to build a mono-color EDH deck that has a bountiful selection of cheap & unconditional removal spells for artifacts, creatures and enchantments. Green already hits two of those well and since Rhonas has both indestructible and deathtouch spells like Pounce and Bite Down become a lot less fragile to disruption.

My preferred playstyle is to play passively, quietly building up value and not getting on my opponents' bad side, while at the same time I like having a hand full of removal to use whenever a situation absolutely calls for it. I already feel like I have this deck built in my head, it's just lacking a win condition that fits with how I want to play it.

Rhonas the Indomitable is one of my favorite cards, since it's from Amonkhet. And, looking at your deck, it looks like you'll definitely be able to play him with his power 4 or greater ability!

Leading up to All Will Be One release, I've spotted a few cards that really want to be in here: Tyrranax Rex, Tyrranax Atrocity, and Infectious Bite. Infectious Bite is an easy upgrade for Pounce. For the other two I'm thinking of pulling out Rhonas the Indomitable and Beastmaster Ascension. I've been feeling that the Get In There category is a little full and these two just don't perform that function as well as others in the category.

zapyourtumor, thanks for the thoughtful comments! Wow, I completely forgot that Hooded Blightfang is a card. Great suggestion and I'll get that integrated. Oof, what a silly ommision on my part. Nice catch!

As far as 1 drop deathtouchers, there are 7 of them. I chose to put Vampire of the Dire Moon at 3x and keep Foulmire Knight at 4x because of the flexibility of Foulmire Knight to draw me a card. Yeah, I know, Vampire of the Dire Moon is a great card and the lifelink is nice, but Foulmire Knight is also a great card and has a bit more flexibility later in the game to draw me a card.

Rhonas the Indomitable is not as bad as you think-- keep in mind that I can use the activated ability to +2/+0 pump a creature. However, with Hooded Blightfang it may need to be replaced. I like that Rhonas can give my creatures trample, but you're correct that Hooded Blightfang should be included.

Massive Might is for the trample! Deathtouch + trample is a whole lot of fun, and having Fynn, the Fangbearer helps keep pressure on our opponent with poison counters. Thus, Massive Might is a great card with a lot of value for just a single .

Thanks again for the comments and I appreciate pointing out Hooded Blightfang!

Whenever anyone asks this kind of question, I always default back to my favorite sets/planes. And also Rule 0 partner decks. lol

I apologize in advance if none of these are the kind of thing that you're looking for.

I really enjoy my Satsuki, the Living Lore deck. Most, if not all, of the relevant sagas are all cheap and some of the best cards in the deck that care about counters (like Power Conduit and Nesting Grounds along with various proliferate cards) were reprinted in New Capenna's Brokers commander deck, so those are also pretty cheap. Add in cards like Historian's Boon, Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle and any constellation/enchantress effects you see fit and that's pretty much the core of the deck right there.

Kairi, the Swirling Sky is a really fun clones deck that I use on Arena's Historic Brawl format. Basic gameplan is to make as many copies of Kairi as possible, only to watch them die to the legend rule and benefit from the death triggers.

Toralf, God of Fury  Flip is another deck that I have and really enjoy. It makes mono red burn possible in commander, and the way that Toralf interacts with damage doublers such as Dictate of the Twin Gods means that the "trample" damage your spells have get amplified for each creature you kill with it. I have a better description of it on my deck's page, if you're interesting (not trying to self-advertise, I promise). Not sure how well this deck could be built on a budget as I'm not sure how much the damage doubling cards are at the moment (as they're kind of crucial).

Any of the five Amonkhet gods. Oketra the True, Kefnet the Mindful, Bontu the Glorified, Hazoret the Fervent and Rhonas the Indomitable never get as much love as the Theros gods and it makes me sad (because Amonkhet is my favorite plane). Their drawbacks are fairly substantial, I will admit, so they're a bit of a challenge to build. Might be what you're looking for?

Ghen, Arcanum Weaver but as an aristocrats style deck where you sacrifice enchantment creatures like Nyxborn Rollicker, Hopeful Eidolon and Gnarled Scarhide to recur stuff like Doomwake Giant. Could also be a hybrid enchantress kind of deck if you lean heavily into the Bestow mechanic. (Hm. I actually really like this idea...)

You could also run some "illegal" partners. I usually only try to do this if they have some sort of story significance, though. For example, I have a young Urza, Powerstone Prodigy and Mishra, Excavation Prodigy precon power leveled deck that I love. Hans Eriksson and Saffi Eriksdotter is one I've wanted to build for a while. Also maybe Gisa the Ghoulcaller and Stitcher Geralf? Or their newer versions, Geralf, Visionary Stitcher and Gisa, Glorious Resurrector? Stuff like that.
