I haven't played reanimator in a while, so my suggestions might be a bit rusty. I see that you have some potential combo pieces like free sac outlets like Carrion Feeder & Phyrexian Altar, Karmic Guide, & various your different aristocrats pingers. Do you currently have any dedicated combo lines? Could be helpful to list them in your primer if you do.

In regards to the pieces you do have, I have a few suggestions:

  • Leonin Relic-Warder - A temp speedbump in terms of removal, but can also combo off with the Animate Dead & Necromancy you already have in the 99. Combo explanation if you're unfamiliar with it. It's fairly useful on its own, so doesn't really feel like a dead draw without the other pieces.

  • Reveillark - Another combo piece that can pop off with Karmic Guide & pretty much all of the free sac outlets and aristocrats pingers you have in your deck already. On its own, it can potentially reanimate about 20 of the 37 creatures you currently have in your deck. Combo explanation again if you're unfamiliar with any of the Reveillark lines. Also suggesting since you have it in your Maybe board already.

No prob! Tombstone Stairwell is def a cool recommendation. I'd recommend checking out Scryfall for updated text on older cards.

In terms of stuff that you could potentially swap out:

  • I'd recommend swapping Feed the Swarm with Generous Gift, Stroke of Midnight, or Cathar Commando. Gift & Midnight each offer more flexibility in what you can answer, but Commando is a recur-able body. I'd mostly recommend Feed the Swarm if you were playing a color combo that didn't have the type of enchantment removal that White has access to.

  • Skrelv's Hive could possibly be a swap out, mostly because the Mites can't block. I get it that they're there mostly for sac fodder and they do have Toxic 1, but you don't really have any other Toxic/poison synergy beyond this & Crawling Chorus. Similarly, Chorus could be another potential swap out.

  • Bone Splinters could be a swap for a removal effect on a creature. I think in some cases some of your non-creature spells can be replaced with creatures that fill a similar role, especially in a deck that wants to recur beneficial bodies.

  • Speaking of beneficial ETB effects, it could help to have some creatures that can also recur bodies when they die or ETB, so 1) it takes some pressure off Carmen being your primary means of recursion 2) you can recur multiple creatures in a turn, and have an extra body for whatever.

  • Sun Titan is kinda like a 2nd Carmen. Karmic Guide and Reveillark can also bring stuff back, and are part of a combo loop when used in tandem (if you're into that sort of thing). This loop can work with basically any free sac outlet.

  • Archon of Cruelty is a card I'm always kinda torn on. Strong effect for ETB and attack, but is so steep at 8 cmc. Def seems like an reanimation target more than a hard-cast.

Cheers man!

Have you considered Plaguecrafter here? It could do a lot of heavy lifting here! I also think that the combos orbiting Saffi Eriksdotter would be perfect for this one, being both powerful and flavorful.

Saffi Eriksdotter goes infinite with several cards that this deck naturally wants to run like Karmic Guide & Reveillark, and any sac outlet like Altar of Dementia for example.

I'm sure you're clever enough to see the combo on your own, but I'll explain for good measure:

Step 1. Sacrifice Saffi Eriksdotter targeting Karmic Guide

Step 2. Sacrifice Karmic Guide to Altar of Dementia

Step 3. Return Karmic Guide to the Battlefield

Step 4. Return Saffi Eriksdotter to the Battlefield & loop.

Worth considering, given the deck synergy imo.

Peace!

Hey dude! You may already know this, but I just wanted to point out that "dies" triggers like Junk Diver & Wurmcoil Engine do not constitute as "leaves the battlefield" triggers like Reveillark.

Also, have you considered Vesperlark?

Archon_Bel on Ephara Remastered *PRIMER FINALLY*

Nice to see another Ephara player lol. Here are my thoughts:

  1. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite- I ran this version of Elesh for a time. She is a powerful card, but I never found she really did much for the deck when I ran her. In my experience, 7 mana was too high a cost to pay for no recurrable effect (I prefer to have effects that I can reuse by flickering), and it usually left me with less mana to spend during my opponents’ turns, which I found to be more important than being able to swing for damage. Why not run the new Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines, instead? She pairs a lot better with our EtB effects.

  2. Lavinia of the Tenth- Cool card, and I get the concept behind her inclusion, but I personally never ended up running her. I prefer to remove creatures with stuff like Skyclave Apparition or Reflector Mage, or even just spot removal, than temporarily stopping them while keeping them on the field.

  3. Ledger Shredder- I don’t really see what this card does for you. Like with Elesh Norn, I think it’s better to run creatures with EtB effects you can reuse with flicker effects.

  4. Nezahal, Primal Tide- Same as above, plus the casting cost is way too high for my liking. Why not run something like Deadeye Navigator instead if you want a repeatable blink?

A few cards I’d recommend are Ephemerate, Momentary Blink, and Ghostway. The first two are very good instant blink cards, useful for reusing stuff like Reflector Mage on the spot for removal or Cloudblazer for some draw before your turn. You also get two uses out of them, so they’re good value and flexible cards. Ghostway is slightly better than Teferi's Protection in this deck imo, since you not only save your creatures, but you get their EtB effects again at end of turn. You don’t have the added benefit of protecting yourself from damage, though, so for that, I’d recommend Selfless Squire. Very underrated but super useful card in my experience; I once stalled a game out against a board full of 30+ dragons and only 3 life because of this card lol. Not a one-off occurrence either, as I’ve had several games where I’ve been able to keep myself from certain death by constantly flickering her effect; she’s incredible when combined with Archaeomancer and Ghostly Flicker!

Other creatures I’d recommend are Watcher for Tomorrow, Cloudblazer, and Saltskitter. The first two are great value engines with Soulherder and Thassa, Deep-Dwelling. I held off for a long time on using Saltskitter, but when I did, man did he put in the work. I was pretty much drawing cards every turn. There’s also Orvar, the All-Form, though this pretty much does the same thing as Displacer Kitten. Having those extra bodies is nice, though, so it’s up to you. Could even just run both lol.

Oh, and you may as well add Altar of Dementia to complete your Reveillark and Karmic Guide package.

tl;dr focus more on creatures with EtB effects for more flicker value, and a few more blink spells.

Gidgetimer on How does Ashaya, Soul of …

"Lands you control" refers to lands that are on the battlefield that you control. There are actually two reasons for this.

  1. When referring to a game object something being called by type alone is a permanent on the battlefield. On the stack game objects are called "TYPE spells". In all other zones they are "TYPE cards".

  2. Players only "control" permanents on the battlefield and spells on the stack. In all other zones cards that started in your deck are referred to as cards you "own".

Ashaya, Soul of the Wild's first ability is a characteristic defining ability (CDA) and functions in all zones. This means that if you have a Reveillark LTB to resolve you could return Ashaya from the graveyard if you have 2 or less lands on the battlefield, but not if you have 3 or more lands on the battlefield. There is no conflict, an ability that works in all zones simply references the number of lands on the battlefield.

Windreader Sphinx Magus of the Moat Maybe Scouting Hawk I love Medomai the Ageless And to actually win the game maybe True Conviction or a bunch of extra turn spells. I would cut Dictate of Heliod and Always Watching and slot Kangee, Sky Warden and maybe Kangee's Lieutenant or Thunderclap Wyvern Also Coastal Piracy and Bident of Thassa seem like theyre worth finding a place for maybe cutting Behold the Multiverse and a wipe. Reveillark and Karmic Guide seem reasonable. I dont know about the 3cmc cantrip flyers without blinking or recurring them. Idk. Cool list tho. I have a blue white kangee deck but I don't have it online. I built it for the same reason, to play against low power decks, but still tough to close out games. Akroma's Will is one great way you already included. GL!
