Momentary Blink

Instant

Exile target creature you control, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control.

Flashback (You may cast this card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then exile it.)

Gidgetimer on Can I flip face-down land?

Everything that legendofa said is correct, I would like to add a couple of examples though.

If something turns "target face-down creature face up" it will turn manifested or cloaked lands face up. Ixidor, Reality Sculptor and Expose the Culprit have this effect.

Blinking as with Momentary Blink orGhostway will return lands to the battlefield face up because of the rules of the game.

Archon_Bel on Ephara Remastered *PRIMER FINALLY*

Nice to see another Ephara player lol. Here are my thoughts:

  1. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite- I ran this version of Elesh for a time. She is a powerful card, but I never found she really did much for the deck when I ran her. In my experience, 7 mana was too high a cost to pay for no recurrable effect (I prefer to have effects that I can reuse by flickering), and it usually left me with less mana to spend during my opponents’ turns, which I found to be more important than being able to swing for damage. Why not run the new Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines, instead? She pairs a lot better with our EtB effects.

  2. Lavinia of the Tenth- Cool card, and I get the concept behind her inclusion, but I personally never ended up running her. I prefer to remove creatures with stuff like Skyclave Apparition or Reflector Mage, or even just spot removal, than temporarily stopping them while keeping them on the field.

  3. Ledger Shredder- I don’t really see what this card does for you. Like with Elesh Norn, I think it’s better to run creatures with EtB effects you can reuse with flicker effects.

  4. Nezahal, Primal Tide- Same as above, plus the casting cost is way too high for my liking. Why not run something like Deadeye Navigator instead if you want a repeatable blink?

A few cards I’d recommend are Ephemerate, Momentary Blink, and Ghostway. The first two are very good instant blink cards, useful for reusing stuff like Reflector Mage on the spot for removal or Cloudblazer for some draw before your turn. You also get two uses out of them, so they’re good value and flexible cards. Ghostway is slightly better than Teferi's Protection in this deck imo, since you not only save your creatures, but you get their EtB effects again at end of turn. You don’t have the added benefit of protecting yourself from damage, though, so for that, I’d recommend Selfless Squire. Very underrated but super useful card in my experience; I once stalled a game out against a board full of 30+ dragons and only 3 life because of this card lol. Not a one-off occurrence either, as I’ve had several games where I’ve been able to keep myself from certain death by constantly flickering her effect; she’s incredible when combined with Archaeomancer and Ghostly Flicker!

Other creatures I’d recommend are Watcher for Tomorrow, Cloudblazer, and Saltskitter. The first two are great value engines with Soulherder and Thassa, Deep-Dwelling. I held off for a long time on using Saltskitter, but when I did, man did he put in the work. I was pretty much drawing cards every turn. There’s also Orvar, the All-Form, though this pretty much does the same thing as Displacer Kitten. Having those extra bodies is nice, though, so it’s up to you. Could even just run both lol.

Oh, and you may as well add Altar of Dementia to complete your Reveillark and Karmic Guide package.

tl;dr focus more on creatures with EtB effects for more flicker value, and a few more blink spells.

Ozzirohc on Damage and blinking creatures

So i had a game recently, where i had an Agent of Treachery in play, and my opponent had a Goblin Sharpshooter in play. In my Main phase i cast Sakashima the Impostor , so in response to that he uses his Goblin Sharpshooter and sacking a few Goblins, to ping the Agent of Treachery , in response to that I play Momentary Blink on the Agent of Treachery , but he sacks a few more goblins and pings my Agent of Treachery for 3, so it dies, and i get no blink ETB effects nor the Sakashima the Impostor copy. So is that how it works with the damage on the stack?

Also does Sakashima the Impostor have no target anymore since the creature died? is the target decided on cast or on ETB? Thanks in advance :)

enpc on Don't Blink, or You'll Miss It!

Kodama of the East Tree would be a good card for the deck. Seems like a good way to get a lot of stuff into play very quickly. Plus you can run it in a line with Felidar Retreat (this card is just good with lands) and one of the ravinca bounce lands to make infinite 2/2 tokens. Also, given that you're leaning into a lands theme, replacing stuff like Thran Dynamo with Skyshroud Claim and Thought Vessel with Nature's Lore / Three Visits / Farseek will give your deck more consistency and more late game value (since you run cards like Mirari's Wake).

Also, stuff like Momentary Blink is ok, but Ghostly Flicker is better as it lets you hit two things and forms yet another infinite mana line with Eternal Witness and Peregrine Drake.

UndeadSpider1990 on Sort by Color Identity

A feature suggestion that's probably harder to implement than it is to suggest!

When sorting my cube, I can sort by color, but not color identity.

This is especially relevant in commander formats, as it means cards like Rally the Peasants and Momentary Blink are at best "White" when they should be "Gold".

We can get around this with custom categories, but ideally we'd have a separate "sort by color identity" option.

For reference:

This was touched upon as an irregularity in 2016, when it was a mixed bag whether such cards showed up based on color or color identity. (https://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/tappedout/color-by-identity/). This seems to have been fixed for the "color" sort, but there's still no option to sort by color identity.

Kazierts on Manufactured Destruction (Golem Token Deck)

Soulherder seems like a card that would have a blast blinking all those splicers. Momentary Blink and Hallowed Respite both also seem like very good cards for this deck.

Maybe a single copy of Endless Sands and/or Safe Haven as meme options to reactivate the splicers' abilities?

(Tried to suugest only things that are very cheap and synergise with your deck)

DemonDragonJ on Why Has WotC Brought Back …

Beware, yes, that is true, but I also like to have some level of consistency, since too much change will make it uncertain if the game is still the same game.

To clarify, I am not asking WotC to constantly print cards as good as are Ephemerate or Momentary Blink; I simply wish for them to recognize that some players enjoy the strategy of "flickering" creatures to repeatedly trigger ETB abilities, and perhaps provide those players with an occasion treat.
