Spoiler Schedule

Insatiable Avarice: In mono-B, this is draw three for three, which is a pretty good rate. K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth gets Demonic Tutor + draw two for

Fortune, Loyal Steed: From reading the story, I thought he looked like the "horse" from Elden Ring so this art was pretty startling

The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride: I kinda wish he got some serious flavor again. The original premise of "edgy hypno toad" was what made him funny, but now it just feels like WotC is milking that fan reaction for all it's worth.

Great Train Heist: solid Relentless Assault variant, but I kinda wish the last one said "each" for EDH purposes, even if I know it targets for the sake of crime:ing

Gisa, the Hellraiser: WotC throwing legendofa a bone, I guess.

Olivia, Opulent Outlaw: Why would becoming a criminal make Oliva gain white of all colors? I assume this is in preparation for Assassin's Creed, but it's still pretty weird. (For reference: White outlaws within Mardu's color identity)

Final Showdown: The best spree card? In voltron decks this is basically an instant-speed Plague Wind for seven mana that doubles as a situational savingspell. I think the first mode has a lot of situational uses, but it's something you have to keep your eyes out for.

High Noon: Rule of Law upgrade for Boros+, although Deafening Silence is still a thing

Arid Archway: idk if colorless decks needed a second Guildless Commons, but sure. Would rather have a mono-colored cycle tbh.

Tomb Trawler: I'm surprised how slowly Grenzo, Dungeon Warden is accumulating these kind of cards; Cogwork Archivist missed the mark in more ways than one

Roxanne, Starfall Savant: was kinda confused about the second ability until I realized she triggers on both ETB and attack. Powerstones obviously work too, plus e.g. Svella, Ice Shaper. Edit: Oh and Treasures too, obviously

Stubborn Burrowfiend: Ahhh! What the hell is the flavor supposed to be with that art?!

Kambal, Profiteering Mayor: Pretty cool with e.g. Saw in Half, Wedding Ring, and Tombstone Stairwell

Geralf, the Fleshwright: still not a good mono-U zombie commander but seems real good in the 99

Lilah, Undefeated Slickshot: so basically a multicolor Taigam, Ojutai Master/Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch  Flip? Not bad.

Caustic Bronco: Could have been Dark Confidant on steroids, but mediocre thoughness and no evasion keeps its attack trigger from being reliable

Calamity, Galloping Inferno: somehow just a normal horse, not Elemental or anything.

Eriette, the Beguiler: gogo Enchant permanent! Also, every Licid is now a Dominating Licid

Obeka, Splitter of Seconds: suck it, The Ninth Doctor!

This is a really solid deck!

But how would you deal with things that mess up your lifegain?

I mean stuff like Erebos, God of the Dead, Forsaken Wastes, Everlasting Torment, Havoc Festival, Knight of Dusk's Shadow, Leyline of Punishment, Giant Cindermaw, Rampaging Ferocidon, and Witch Hunt.

I've seen people just scoop and leave when they were running a lifegain-based deck when they run into those cards. You've definitely got removal for sure, but you should either run more or have ways of digging for them just in case since those are total hosers for your strategy.

Also, to note, Atarka's Command, Molten Disaster, Sudden Shock, or Skullcrack could kill you in the middle of doing stuff so you shouldn't get too low if you've got a red player on the board. I've seen this very thing happen to someone running a K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth deck. Just something to keep in mind!

Mortlocke yes we can do that, I was planning to go to the Battle Bear Shop. At the moment it's a bit difficult, because Commander is played there on Thursdays and I have training there, but it will be possible by July at the latest, when there is a break in training. In the shop there is a judge named Michael and his wife Nele, very nice people and they are also the ones we often play with here. Talk to them when you're there, they always like to play a round.

Yes, I understand what you mean, I also had the experience, at least at Mtg Arena, I built a Gishath deck and had the same experience. and i think your idea with the enrage enablers is also very good, i'll probably go to zacama too, especially since he has 3 heads, that's always good :-)

I built a Sheoldred, the Apocalypse deck, you can have a look at my decks. I think the deck is good, but you always have a crosshair on your forehead, which means that you are either taken out of the game very quickly if you don't have an optimal start, or that you win very quickly, there is no middle ground. i guess to keep up the fun with sheoldred it makes more sense to play her in the 99 instead of as a commander, but it's also fun as a commander, at least for you, the opponent not so much :-) I'm considering remodeling her in the long run and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth playing as commander and putting sheoldred in, but we'll see.

Damn XinZhao, how have I missed Blast-Furnace Hellkite?! Excellent suggestion! I’m definitely swapping Chancellor of the Annex for it. You’re right, Chancellor can be overcome easier than Liesa, Shroud of Dusk. Liesa is especially painful against decks depending on life consumption like K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth.

BF Hellkite joins the category of “damage doublers” like Archfiend of Despair and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight. Plus it encourages other players to attack each other.

Have you considered Defiler of Flesh and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth as ramp?

Also, If you combine Peer into the Abyss and Underworld Dreams That's practically insta-kill on most opponents.

Hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

Hey Profet93! Good questions.

IMHO, I would not run either Anvil of Bogardan or Chains of Mephistopheles in a NDBMBD unless the deck has some reanimator combo lines and the self-discard is beneficial to the objective. Unless the discarding synergies with some other abilities, you are helping your opponents more than you are helping yourself, as you are allowing them to draw deeper into their deck to find their own combo pieces.

In my Tinybones deck, I discard cards so rapidly that opponents cannot play their hands fast enough, limiting their ability to plan for future turns, then I exile their graveyards to prevent utilization of their graveyard as a resource. In this way, my Tinybones, Trinket Thief deck breaks parity by handicapping opponents while I draw additional cards via Tinybones. My deck is designed to work around the exiling of my own graveyard, and as long as I can generate enough mana to activate Tinybones’ ability, I can win without cards in hand.

Other Monoblack decks are combo-based and break parity through life-loss and sacrifice effects. I run K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth and it breaks parity by having K’rrik on the board as fast as possible to require minimal mana and maximize combo speed. K’rrik is probably the most OP commanders around, period. Another popular commander is Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, who can also be utilized to assemble rapid sacrifice-based combos.

Monoblack decks have to either focus on combos and outrace other decks (especially multicolor blue/green decks with access to the best draw and ramp spells in the game), or hold faster decks back via stax while also benefiting from the stax effects somehow and gaining an advantage.
