Niko9 on Fun Deck/Builds to try

Deckbuilding can be super fun : ) but the weird thing for me, and I don't know if other players get this too, but it's so surprising sometimes what decks I actually like to play. My original EDH deck was a pretty competitive elfball deck for the time because I really like a lot of the cards, but in practice it was awful to play. It was infinite combo win or not do much, and I probably played it for far too long.

After a long time, I've really realized that my favorite decks to brew up and play are ones that have an open-ended approach. I've been in too many EDH games that go turns 1-4 ramp, somebody wraths, and everyone really just starts playing around turn 7. My favorite brew in commander has definitely been Catti-brie of Mithral Hall because I play it as an aggro deck, a low cmc commander and curve, and there is lots of spot removal. I think spot removal is really underrated in commander, just from a fun perspective. Like, I have such a better time looking around and figuring out plays when I have to budget removal rather than sitting there with a wrath in the hand and just waiting to use it.

I don't know, I just find the "meta" commander experience too laid out for you as far as deck design and play. My decks would probably be a ton better if I was doing Sol Ring into more ramp into Farewell into my commander and some combo, but to me the surprise factor of attacking turn 2 is way more fun : )

And fun thing that I've found is that there were a couple players in my group who also made aggro decks, and once you get 2 aggro players it's an entirely different game. Sometimes games might start normal and then people switch decks for game 2 and there are 3 aggro decks and then the person playing Dockside Extortionist and Korvold, Fae-Cursed King is actually so doomed, and I really enjoy that.

Though, to be fair I usually play more 60 card multiplayer jank : )

I have replaced Massacre Wurm with Vein Ripper, since the latter creature is generally superior to the former.

I also have replaced Vulturous Zombie with Korvold, Fae-Cursed King, since Korvold is definitely the superior creature, in this case, and I understand that he would be a better general for this deck than would Kresh, but I originally built this deck when EDH was still a new format, and options for generals were limited, so I deliberately chose generals from the Alara block for my first five shard/arc-colored EDH decks, and I wish to remain committed to that idea.

DemonDragonJ on Does this Deck Have Sufficient …

I am contemplating putting Korvold, Fae-Cursed King into my Kresh the Bloodbraided EDH deck, but I am not certain if that deck has a sufficient amount of token generation or reanimation to continually provide me with permanents to sacrifice to Korvold's ability, so what does everyone else say about this? Can that deck sustain feeding Korvold with permanents?

DemonDragonJ on Should I Keep Vulturous Zombie …

I have a copy of Vulturous Zombie in these two EDH decks of mine, and it is a nice card, but I am wondering if I should keep in those decks, since I am not certain how well it fits the theme of each of those decks, as it is merely a flying beater, so I am seeking advice from the other users on this subject.

For my Kresh deck, I am contemplating replacing the zombie with Maarika, Brutal Gladiator, Scarland Thrinax, or Korvold, Fae-Cursed King, but each of those creatures has their own issues: Maarika forces opponents to sacrifice non-land, non-creature permanents, while that deck cares specifically about creatures dying; the thrinax is a free sacrifice outlet, but does not have much impact on the game overall; and Korvold is amazing, but I am not certain if that deck has a sufficient amount of token generation or recursion to constantly feed into his ability. Also, I am not certain what card could replace the zombie in my mimeoplasm deck, so I certainly would appreciate any suggestions that anyone here has to offer.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I keep Vulturous Zombie in these two decks, or should I replace it with another creature, and, if I should, with what creature should I replace it?

Thanks for the suggestions UltimateRoxas40. I think I have a copy of Thespian's Stage around, but I'd need to pick up/proxy Dark Depths. I'm currently running Vesuva to help me double up those on those Field of the Dead triggers.

Braids, Arisen Nightmare is probably one of my favorite new cards of the past year. I played her for that exact reason in the Zimone and Dina deck that I converted into this one. I love the flexibility on what you can sac to her.

If you bring yours out of retirement, I'll be keeping an eye out for your updates. I'm excited to play this deck and have it become a part of my regular rotation, but I have this nagging feeling that there will be some new Jund legend in the Thunder Junction set that I'll want play instead lol.

Hey dude! Gonna try to keep this brief and not go down a brewing rabbit hole lol.

Have you considered extra combat phases? Your Commander's strategy obviously hinges upon you being able to attack with it, so doing it multiple times a turn is the way to go imho.

Although I wouldn't go overboard with it, there are a few worth thinking over such as Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebrant, Breath of Fury (extra good if you're running creatures that want to be sacrificed on your way to drawing cards via your Commander, Cathodion for example), Seize the Day, Savage Beating & World at War.

Creatures that sacrifice themselves could also be great, stuff like Ball Lightning, Groundbreaker & Lightning Skelemental can do a lot of damage. Blood Pet, Goldhound, Reckless Barbarian, Generator Servant, Tinder Wall, Wild Cantor & Basal Thrull draw and ramp you at the same time, which is pretty neat. Eldrazi token generators like Sifter of Skulls, From Beyond & Awakening Zone can help you keep that engine running in longer games. Haywire Mite, Caustic Caterpillar &Cankerbloom draw, control the board and replace their presence on your own board for a great rate.

There are a few value pieces worth thinking about as well, like, Pitiless Plunderer & Korvold, Fae-Cursed King.

Lastly, you need a lot more mana dorks, my guy. As many as possible.

Sorry for being so long-winded! Cheers!
