Raven_of_Arella great suggestions, thank you. I really like the Crypt Incursion and Indulgent Tormentor suggestions. Also a big fan of Dash Hopes and should have included it initially now that you mention it but I have found that people usually pay the 5 life. I suppose my win-con is letting my enchantments do the damage while I continue to force discards and then swinging big with Tourach but I don't have a ton of EDH experience so I'm shooting at the hip with what typically works best to seal the deal.

This looks like a really cool discard deck! I am curious what your win condition is? It seems like you can pump your commander up pretty quickly so maybe commander damage for the win? I might consider adding a few more land and/or a couple pieces of ramp so you can keep the pressure up and not worry about missing your land drops. If your goal is to win with commander damage Fake Your Own Death and Undying Malice are some cheap cards for keeping him on the battlefield. I would also look at Victimize for some reanimation and Dash Hopes for a last ditch counter attempt. Some cards I think will help you dig into your deck and capitalize off opponent discards are Waste Not and Liliana's Spoils. I might also look at some cards like Invoke Despair, Indulgent Tormentor, and Seizan, Perverter of Truth to keep the pressure on your opponents and add to the ping effect. Lastly I would recommend Crypt Incursion for some massive life gain and as a piece of graveyard hate. All of these cards should be in that <$2 category. Happy building and playing!

DemonDragonJ on Should I Replace Visara the …

I have a copy of Visara the Dreadful in these two EDH decks, because she can destroy creatures for the generals of those decks to steal, but I wonder if she is the best possible way to do that, since I cannot both attack with her and then user her ability; each of those decks also does contain a copy of Seedborn Muse, but there is no guarantee that I shall draw both of those creatures in the same game, so Visara is rather a risky choice.

For my Teneb, the Harvester deck, I am considering Archfiend of Depravity, Archpriest of Shadows, or Indulgent Tormentor, and, for The Mimeoplasm deck, I am considering either Acidic Slime or Nemesis of Reason, because all of those creatures synergize with the themes of those decks.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I keep Visara the Dreadful in those decks, or replace her with other creatures, and, if I do, with what creatures should I replace her?

FormOverFunction, I am very pleased to hear you say that, because I personally believe that Indulgent Tormentor is a very underrated card, and can definitely be useful, in the proper deck.

Ok, I've used all of those cards befor and the problem with them is

  • Indulgent Tormentor, it's just a bad card, if it was 4 mana to cast I'd say yea it's just another version of Loyal Subordinate and you can run it. With giving your opponents 3 options it's bad.

  • Visara the Dreadful, the cost to cast this at 6 mana is really one of the biggest problems with this card. Secondly, because it doesn't have haste, you'll have to wait a turn to use it. It's tap ability to destroy is really what's the best part of the card but because it's a tap ability you can't attack with the flying 5/5. That also applies to Avatar of Woe. Although Dread doesn't do anything that you can see (like Ghostly Prison). It seems like it's a bad card. But it's not. It hits for 6 with fear. And protection from the crack back.

In my honest opinion, you'd be better off running Royal Assassin in place of Visara the Dreadful or WOE. And running Ophiomancer in place of Dread.

I have a copy of Dread in my Kresh the Bloodbraided EDH deck, but that creature's ability is reactive, and I wish to replace it with a creature whose ability is proactive, and I am currently considering either Indulgent Tormentor or Visara the Dreadful, so which creature does everyone else here prefer?

I have replaced Diabolic Revelation, Elder Mastery, and Lightning Reaver with Archfiend of Depravity, Indulgent Tormentor, and Rune-Scarred Demon, because the newer cards far better fit the theme of this deck than did the older cards, which, unfortunately, increased this deck's average converted mana cost from 4.40 to 4.42, but that increase is deceptive, since I would need to spend a minimum of 7 mana on Diabolic Revelation to truly get a good bargain from it.
