Hellkite Charger

Creature — Dragon

Flying, haste

Whenever Hellkite Charger attacks, you may pay . If you do, untap all attacking creatures and after this phase, there is an additional combat phase.

That deck looks awesome! I've never seen Bubble Matrix, that thing is hilarious with Anzrag. As you're already running Bear Umbra, how about Hellkite Charger to have another way to get infinite combats?

What do you think about cards that create an additional battle phase like Response / Resurgence or Hellkite Charger? thre are a lot of cards that do this but those are just the first two I thought of.

More dragons (I got distracted and couldn't stop thinking about it):

Other potentially useful mono red tools: Treasonous Ogre for excellent mana production, Heartless Hidetsugu to speed up the game, Impact Tremors for free damage with all these creatures, Dictate of the Twin Gods to speed up the game and surprise kill people after blocks are declared.

A hot take: if you wanted, you could swap the commander for Magda, Brazen Outlaw and split the deck into a bit of a Dwarf/Dragon tribal idea. She can tutor for Dragons and helps you create the mana to get them out, more of an engine in the command zone than Drakuseth's removal. Would need to swap some of the Dragons for Dwarves and refactor the theme a little, so it's really a different deck, but figured I'd suggest it.

jarncards on hasteland

For global haste you can use Fires of Yavimaya, Concordant Crossroads, Mass Hysteria, and Urabrask the Hidden who will also conveniently turn off other people's haste. Anger and Barbarian Class also give haste after more effort.

Ant Queen, Artifact Mutation, Battle Hymn, Circle of Dreams Druid, Dragon Broodmother, Pest Infestation, Scute Swarm, Tempt with Vengeance, Sylvan Offering, Termagant Swarm are all useful if you can give haste to all of them.

Birds of Paradise is just the best mana dork.

You have green, so you might as well use the standard ramp package with Cultivate , Kodama's Reach, Explore , Farseek, , Rampant Growth, Three Visits and Nature's Lore. Probably ignore most mana rocks, because people are going to want to vandalblast you just because of the treasures.

Relentless Assault, Scourge of the Throne, Combat Celebrant, Hexplate Wallbreaker, World at War grant extra combats, with Hellkite Charger and Aggravated Assault potentially going infinite.

Vandalblast goes in every red deck. Even though youll have a ton of treasures i'd still run Brotherhood's End too

For draw spells consider Scroll Rack, Garruk's Uprising, Elemental Bond, Soul's Majesty, Furious Rise, Rishkar's Expertise, Beast Whisperer, Shamanic Revelation, Disciple of Bolas, Pact of the Serpent, Painful Truths, Harmonize, Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, Read the Bones, Ambition's Cost, Ancient Craving, Damnable Pact, Commune with Lava, Lifeblood Hydra, or maybe Necropotence although the color restricion on necro is tough, treasures should take care of it.

Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer , The Reaver Cleaver , Gadrak, the Crown-Scourge , Ancient Copper Dragon , Old Gnawbone Ziatora, the Incinerator for more treasure makers. Pyrohemia and Pestilence could be fun with the extra mana. Awaken the Woods is an amazing x spell too, but wont appreciate the two aforementioned cards.

If you're using magda the deck will benefit from dragons and expensive artifacts. throw in Imperial Recruiter and Worldly Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, and Demonic Tutor all go in your colors. so you can get her more consistently. Darksteel Forge and Gate to Phyrexia can be tutored into play with her for five treasure.

If you use dragons, you could add Dragonstorm, but you should carefully consider how many cheap spells you expect to be able to cast if you arent building specifically towards this card. Chatterstorm, Empty the Warrens, Yawgmoth's Will, Jeska's Will, Mana Geyser, and Manamorphose, Past in Flames are all good on their own and would add synergy.

If it ends up dragon tribal, cards like Crippling Fear , Kindred Dominance, Crux of Fate

Swashbuckler Extraordinaire is a very good payoff for using treasures if you dont use certain other nightmarish dragons like Atarka, World Render, Blast-Furnace Hellkite, Terror of Mount Velus, Thrakkus the Butcher

legendofa on What is Gruul to you?

Big, aggressive mana into big, aggressive creatures, like TypicalTimmy said. Anti-hate and forcing effects through, like SteelSentry said, to which I would add that Gruul is good at punishing stall and non-combat effects (Burning-Tree Shaman, Mage Slayer, etc.)

It doesn't have especially deep combo potential, with something like Nature's Will/Bear Umbra + Aggravated Assault/Hellkite Charger, or something with Scapeshift, being more or less the standard. Control is possible, with a good suite of damage-based creature removal, a huge variety of targeted and mass artifact and enchantment destruction, and targeted land destruction, but the win condition will generally come back to big creatures or damage over time. It can't set any hard locks, but it can find a way to punish an opponent for doing just about anything, even tapping or not tapping lands, even if it's not for mana.

I'd like to see more trickery from the color pair. Red has a very good selection of redirection and randomization effects, and green is good at maximizing its resources, through ramp, draw, and recursion. I can imagine a commander that's all about changing the battlefield and rules, messing up everyone else's strategy while accumulating resources and opportunities. Something that The Great Aurora and Warp World, for example, can fit into.

multimedia on Miirym Dragon Tribal Deck

Hey, well done so far for a first deck with a $500+ budget.

34 lands and only 9 reliable ramp sources is low for Dragons. The land count is fine, but only if you add more low mana cost ramp. Add more lands or add more ramp? Tempt with Discovery relies on opponents to be ramp and Thaumatic Compass  Flip relies on you controlling seven or more lands to be ramp. These aren't reliable as ramp and they cost too much mana for what you get.

In simplest terms there's two areas you want most with Miirym, ramp and Dragons. Ramp to first cast 6 mana Miirym and Dragons to cast after Miirym. Of course you want other areas too, but most important are these two. Consider expanding on ramp?

Nature's Lore, Farseek are more good two drop land ramp like Three Visits. Cursed Mirror is excellent with blink, if you blink the copied creature then that blinks Mirror which can then ETB as a copy of some other creature including an opponent's creature. You can also choose to have it just ETB as a mana rock which is needed for a combo.

Jade Orb of Dragonkind gives protection from targeted removal until your next turn for the Dragon you cast with it. This effect is helpful since paying a lot of mana to cast a Dragon to then have it killed is feels bad. Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner untap ability is versatile, any permanent you control, it's also repeatable draw when a Dragon ETB including a token.

There's 100+ of different Dragons you could play with a $500+ budget and having Old Gnawbone as a price point? Consider upgrading some Dragons?

These Dragons can be parts of wincon combos and they're made much better thanks to Miiryn copying them. All these Dragons don't break the bank and adding them can really increase the power level of your deck.

What's nice about these combos are they all use a Dragon. All the cards are good by themselves, but with the Dragon and/or Miirym they're much better. Tandem Lookout can be repeatable draw that can change creature it's bonded too. Bond to any creature you control before Miirym, then bond to Miirym and when you're ready bond to Niv-Mizzet. Bond to any Dragon who can do repeatable noncombat damage to opponents such as Scourge of Valkas for lots of draw.

Getting more value: ramp, draw or removal from Dragons can help gameplay. Steel Hellkite + Old Gnawbone/Savage Ventmaw mana can wreck especially when you have multiple Hellkites.

If you're interested I offer more advice in another comment. Would you like more advice?

Good luck with your deck.
