Gnarled Professor

Creature — Treefolk Druid

Trample

When this enters the battlefield, learn. (You may reveal a Lesson card you own from outside the game and put it into your hand, or discard a card to draw a card.)

Glad to hear things are working out with the deck.

I mixed up Charge Through thinking it had learn when it was draw. My goof on that one.

I am also with you in regards to the Eldrain cards. The adventure cards are not very well balanced and I would like to avoid using them when possible... But when you are going to be playing against them anyways... Might as well make use of the cards that help the deck.

Gnarled Professor I think is a very solid card, but will not get its time to properly shine until the Lovestruck Beast rotates out of standard.

Your adjustments to the deck do look great and make it seem more consistent for play now. Wish you best of luck with the deck.

Thanks for your advice. It was really useful.

I had been playing around with the Learn mechanic, utilising Pop Quiz , but for 3 mana, it wasn't cutting it. Essentially, the Lessons are "Get out of jail" cards only: slightly too expensive for their effect but could literally save you the game. So 3 mana for 1 draw and a Lesson wasn't working.

Charge Through isn't a Learn card unfortunately, hence me overlooking it but I did take onboard your advice that Quandrix Apprentice was a truly suboptimal card for this deck and maybe running 4 Snakeskin Veil and 4 Ranger's Guile was too much defense. I mean, its good to keep your critters on the board but that will only get you so far.

I was specifically avoiding using Eldraine cards but they are just too good. Having a spell to cast AND a creature is very good for this deck.

The deck desperately needed a decent 3 drop, so Lovestruck Beast made its way in. Instantly saw a dramatic improvement.

I did actually go for a Learn card: Gnarled Professor . Its 4 mana for a 5/4 Trample creature which has Learn. That's mana efficiency for you right there. Plus every time you copy it with Orvar, you learn a new lesson.

You should be able to manage Ayara, First of Locthwain here despite its awkward mana cost. Seems like it offers everything you need to tie the life gain & sac strategies together while providing card advantage.

Also there are a lot of interesting options for Learn cards to replace Pest Summoning in the mainboard so you can get more value & magecraft triggers. Cram Session , Eyetwitch , Poet's Quill , Overgrown Arch , Hunt for Specimens , Field Trip , and Gnarled Professor would all fit in with this strat.
