Niko9 on Is Westley the Biggest Flavor …

Very late to the party here, but I just saw the Princess Bride version of Fynn, the Fangbearer pop up, and seriously, what is this business?

I get that the idea is the battle of wits part of the story, but Westley fought multiple people at multiple points and they all survived. Even his mortal enemy walked away in the end. So I ask...

Who is he deathtouching?

Why is he poisoning a planeswalker who is tapping mana in an extradimensional space?

Why is he green?

Just not a pirate?

Or a peasant?

Is he constantly convincing an opponent to drink poisoned wine over and over?

Couldn't they just have tried to make a new card here?

I think the art on this set of cards is amazing, and it's both one of my favorite movies and books, but the design of this is actually awful.

The only explanation I can think of is that whoever decided what card to use the effects of just youtubed "Westley Princess Bride" and saw a 2 min clip and was like, oh great! Poison is the main part of this character...Westley must use poison all the time...right?

I just put in Fynn, the Fangbearer and Swamp Mosquito to up the early poison interaction, as well as Roaming Throne, mostly just to double up Atraxa's proliferate ability... Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus is similar to Roaming Throne, and Tekuthal interacts with more cards that aren't just Phyrexian creatures, but I think that Roaming Throne is worth the include even just for double Atraxa proliferate, just like Tekuthal is, and it does also interact with a few other Phyrexian creatures...

Also switched out Vraska, Relic Seeker for Vraska, Golgari Queen. Even though little Vraska's removal ability isn't as strong as big Vraska's, it does have card draw, and I think little Vraska's ultimate is probably more impactful on the game, as it could take out multiple players as opposed to just one. Little Vraska doesn't ulitmate immediately with Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider like big Vraska does, but I think the cheaper mana cost and better ultimate are worth trade offs?

Hooded Blightfang and Fynn, the Fangbearer are must-haves if you plan to be playing mostly death touch creatures. They each make your creatures have more impact on their attacks.

Saryth, the Viper's Fang is great protection for your board while Chevill, Bane of Monsters can be a fun way to get card advantage.

Vraska, Swarm's Eminence creates tokens with death touch :)

I'd recommend Fynn, the Fangbearer as an alternate win con

qwikster, Fynn, the Fangbearer is absolutely degenerate tech, since with Shelob, Child of Ungoliant’s ability to grant deathtouch to all of our spiders, he makes it “5 spiders hit you and you lose the game.”

Spiders are strong when they have death touch from Shelob and Fynn, the Fangbearer is out for a kill.
