Deekah, Fractal Theorist

Legendary Creature — Human Wizard

I like the deck. I have been wanting to make an Anhelo deck, but I just have so many decks already that I don't know if I'll have room for another. (Not like that's stopped me before though)

You already have Talrand, The Sky Summoner, but more effects like Metallurgic Summonings, Saruman, the White Hand, Chrome Host Seedshark, and Baral and Kari Zev would be handy. I also feel like a couple of magecraft triggers such as Archmage Emeritus, Deekah, Fractal Theorist, or, if you're willing to pay a little more, Storm-Kiln Artist would be good. Role Reversal is nice because it could steal any permanent, not just creatures if you're willing to get rid of some of your stuff. Cryptic Pursuit seems perfect hear since casting instants and sorceries creates a 2/2 for casualty, but also, when you sacrifice it, if it was an instant or sorcery, you get another card! A 3 for 1 seems like a pretty good deal. Also, your mana fixing needs a little work. The signets (Arcane Signet, Rakdos Signet, Dimir Signet, and Izzet Signet) are really cheap, so I would replace those for the 3 mana rocks. Creating colorless mana is pretty detrimental, especially if you're trying to cast spells with multiple mana symbols.

Some stuff I would replace. Blood Tyrant is too bulky since it doesn't benefit from casting/copying spells. Imminent Doom is a little too situational for my liking. There are times when you might not have the right cmc to trigger the doom. Theater of Horrors isn't really that great because it's really mana intensive for the payoff. Prince of Thralls is just too pricey for the curve. Prismari Pledgemage is just a 3/3 for 2, but doesn't do much anything else. Soul Seizer  Flip is too clunky, when you could just do Control Magic for 1 less and is an immediate payoff. Firemind's Foresight. I like this card, but it's just a little pricey for my liking. Elder Mastery. Again, a little too pricey for the payoff. Sedris, the Traitor King is really only good in a more creature heavy build with a mill subtheme. Since you only have 15 creatures, it doesn't seem worth it.

These are just a few of my opinions on the deck. Hope any of this helps.

That's kind of an interesting pick for a swap martinant365. I think Marchesa, the Black Rose is cool and am considering her as a potential deck transition for Anhelo, but I don't think she fits all that well in the 99 for Anhelo.

Marchesa wants to play more aggressively, and swing with creatures each combat. Anhelo tends to lean more spellslinger, and utilizes a smaller creature base and token producers to create fodder for Casualty 2.

I noticed your deck is missing some token creators that can be really helpful for an Anhelo deck. Some helpful ones are:

I would also generally recommend swapping some of your sorcery speed removal and interaction for more instant speed stuff. Instant speed removal combined with consistent token generation can help you remove multiple permanents per removal spell, which is really what Anhelo's specialty is.

Disappearing Act gives you reliable evasion - even if the spell fails because Krark is on the field, the cost of the cast allows you to bounce a permanent to the safety of your hand.

Also, Reliquary Tower, so you don't get forced to discard down if you keep bouncing spells to hand.

Deekah, Fractal Theorist can grant you some token swarm, especially if you copy them with Sakashima.

You should really find room for God-Eternal Kefnet if you can, because their wording specifies you cast the copy. It's also a may effect, so it doesn't give away your draw unless you decide to cast it.

Very high CMC, but another fun target for Sakashima in this deck might be Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant.

Less-high CMC, a fun combo with Krark is Melek, Izzet Paragon. Even if you fail the coin flip when you cast a spell from the top of your library, you still get to 'draw' the card! Also potential Sakashima shenanigans.

Rootha, Mercurial Artist can help make casts a bit more reliable - if you're willing to bounce them to hand, you can copy a cast spell before Krark potentially bounces it back to hand.

KongMing thanks again! I really like Deekah, Fractal Theorist but I'm note sure if Herald of Secret Streams isn't just strictly better... I will have to playtest that one! As for the other two, they just seem too slow even with all the X-spells being thrown around or even infinite mana generation... but I will keep them in mind in case another card ends up underperforming!

So Deekah, Fractal Theorist might be a good way to 'double up' on the big X spells you cast, and also gives you some unblockable for your big hydra tokens at instant speed.

Geometric Nexus falls into a similar vein.

Finally, Orochi Hatchery might make a good mana dump if you don't end up spending it.

Rhadamanthus on I need some clarity... strive, …

It wasn't clear exactly what you were asking until you brought up Deekah, Fractal Theorist as an example of why you needed to know. A card's "mana value" is specifically the sum of the mana symbols printed in the upper-right corner of a standard Magic frame. If there's an in the cost and the spell is currently on the stack, then the chosen value of X is counted as well. Nothing else that would increase, reduce, or otherwise change the total cost required to cast a spell has any effect on the mana value. The only way to change the mana value of a card is to turn it into a copy of another card with a different mana value.

Don't hate me... I just noticed every strive spell says "any number" as part of it's initial targeting, which is why it shouldn't be an additional effect or cost... it's a part of the original effect, the initial casting and targeting of the spell. Therefore the total spell cost, which has simply been modified and expanded, should include it. IMHO. This matters if, say, Deekah, Fractal Theorist is in play.
