Cemetery Recruitment

Sorcery

Return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand. If it's a Zombie card, draw a card.

Since you have 0 zombie type creatures, Cemetery Recruitment isn’t being utilized to its full potential. I’d just run 4 copies of Unearth instead, as it’ll get any of your rodents back into play immediately.

if this deck is for casual then i'd say its pretty alright for a fun break from the norm. Only 10 cards short of a commander deck too if you want to go that route. But if you're looking for more competitiveness, I'd say to do the following:

The first thing we need to do before anything, is to figure out the strategy we're going for. Obviously a token based liliana deck is way out of reasonable budgets. The blue you added does give me an idea for a control based zombie deck.

So the first thing to do is remove the cards above 60 that we wouldn't need, along with cards that will don't either assist or protect our strategies. I would start by removing the following: 2 - Advanced Stitchwing. 2 - Certain Death. 1 - Collective Brutality. 1 - Corrupt. 1 - Corrupted Roots. 2 - Disentomb. 1 - Doom Blade. 1 - Essence Harvest. 1 - Gnawing Zombie. 1 - Grixis Slavedriver. 1 - Grixis Grimblade. 1 - Hunted Ghoul. 1 - Haunted Dead. 3 - Ingenious Skaab. 4 - Laboratory Brute. 1 - Lamplighter of Selhoff. 1 - Maalfeld Twins. 2 - Macabre Waltz. 2 - Midnight Recovery. 1 - Mistvein Borderpost. 1 - Moan of the Unhallowed. 2 - Paranoid Delusions. 1 - Polluted Dead. 2 - Psychic Strike. 1 - Recover. 1 - Rise from the Grave. 1 - Scrapskin Drake. 1 - Shambling Attendants. 1 - Sibsig Host. 1 - Sibsig Muckdraggers. 1 - Sidisi's Pet. 1 - Sip of Hemlock. 1 - Skinrender. 1 - Spineless Thug. 1 - Stitched Mangler. 2 - Thraben Foulbloods. 1 - Strange Augmentation. 1 - Undead Executioner. 1 - Zombie Outlander. 15 - Swamp. 10 - Island.

It IS Quite a lot, but it's because we need to make room for the cards that'll make the bulk of our strategy, not to mention there are cheaper, better alternatives to most of these cards (lands were removed because the mana base will be changed later). With these cards taken out, that leaves us with the following: 3 - Cemetery Recruitment. 1 - Ghastly Conscription. 1 - Sign in Blood. 1 - Graf Harvest. 1 - Rooftop Storm. 2 - Gavony Unhallowed. 1 - Jhessian Zombies. 1 - Vedalken Ghoul.

these are pretty linearly focused for an effective strategy. to fluff out the rest of the cards for the deck, I'd recommend:

+1 - Cemetery Recruitment. +3 - Sign in Blood. +4 - Mana Leak. +3 - Duress. +3 - Vedalken Ghoul. +3 - Jhessian Zombies. +1 - Rooftop Storm. +4 - Go for the Throat. +4 - Rotting Rats. +3 - Claim / Fame.

Cemetery Recruitment can help you recover something you wanted and got killed.

Dark Salvation Can help you destroy indestructable creatures and flood the board later on. If you choose to run this, I wouldn't put more than 2 copies in your deck.

Together with it, Empty the Pits would appreciate the help from all those creatures you summoned.

Endless Ranks of the Dead is on the same page as them.

Zombie Apocalypse protects you from board wipe.

If your opponents play with the graveyard, Vile Rebirth could help you.

Call to the Grave would work well with the theme and force your enemies to kill their own creatures.

Graf Harvest could help you get some damage through.

There are some more that fit the theme, but that's all I have for now haha

Looks like a fun deck! I have some thoughts to share...

Liliana's Mastery seems unlikely to change game outcomes. If games are going long, I think switching up the removal, going for card draw or perhaps trying to snag one of the pro zombie Liliana planeswalkers would be better options. For card draw/filtering, Cemetery Recruitment is okay and real affordable, not sure off hand but the more expensive options would be, Smuggler's Copter comes to mind.

Time to Reflect seems too good not to use, at least in the sideboard. IMO that card is one of the reasons this deck is worth playing over like GB graveyard creatures or dredge. Doesn't help so much for attacking fliers I suppose. Maybe like 3 Fatal Push , 2 Time to Reflect , 3 Anguished Unmaking ? I guess if Aetherworks Marvel and planeswalkers are dominating the format then anguished unmaking is pretty key.

Also good (some you perhaps left out for budgetary reasons which I completely appreciate and relate to) Stitcher's Supplier Binding Mummy Metallic Mimic Relentless Dead In Oketra's Name Grasp of Darkness Dusk / Dawn Thoughtseize (I think Divest / Duress are stronger than Transgress the Mind , too, as they can hit 1-2 drops. Duress gets Hardened Scales , copter, Heart of Kiran , planeswalkers, marvel, all on turn one.)

If you included some cards that retrieve cards from the graveyard as well in the deck you could counter your own Phage with things like Dash Hopes and Thrull Wizard . Your Withering Boon would also compliment this.

Things to put Phage into your hand from the graveyard could be Aid the Fallen , Call to the Netherworld , Cemetery Recruitment , Disentomb , Ghoulcaller's Chant , Grim Discovery , March of the Drowned , and the new Order of Midnight . There are plenty more with the same effects but I'm only listing the 1 and 2 CMC options since less mana is always better!

2 ways I would build SG on a budget:

Zombie token makers ( Liliana's Reaver ) + Zombie Token lords ( Eternal Skylord ) + kill spells ( Go for the Throat ); since SG makes zombie tokens you can kill an opponent's best creature, reanimate it, and it will get buffed. You will proactively make zombies for offense/defense while reactively killing problem creatures and turning them into your minions.

Strong enter-the-battlefield trigger creatures ( Plaguecrafter ) + Arcane Adaptation + kill spells ( Murder ); since SG makes a token of the exiled creature, being able to get a second trigger is great. With AA you obviously name "zombies" and now all your creatures boost SG' upkeep trigger. You are controlling opponents through your creatures entering the battlefield while, again, you are using kill spells to get rid of threatening creatures you want to turn into zombies.

2 other viable routes, though less 'zombie,' are discard via spells ( Syphon Mind ) and creatures ( Liliana's Specter ) to which you reanimate creatures your opponents' discard & mill via creatures ( Consuming Aberration ) and spells ( Mind Grind ).

You chose a lot of good zombies but I would ask whether they are good enough that you would reanimate? While SG promotes creatures, I would not forget about relevant zombie-focused spells. Ex. Apprentice Necromancer is cute but I would cut it for Cemetery Recruitment since it draws a card too or Ghoulcaller's Chant which grabs 2 back.

I would add more card advantage ( Ambition's Cost , Ancient Craving , Live Fast ) and ramp ( Mind Stone , Dimir Cluestone , Seer's Lantern ). I would shoot 10+ sources of each because nothing is less fun than not being able to cast your spells and top-decking.

A fun interaction to go with zombies, many of your 'each opponent loses a life', and free sacrifice outlets is Metallic Mimic + Putrid Goblin for infinite damage.

The inclusion of Paradox Haze is a great idea!
