Bruvac the Grandiloquent

Legendary Creature — Human Advisor

If an opponent would mill one or more cards, they mill twice that many cards instead. (To mill a card, a player puts the top card of their library into their graveyard.)

Welcome to the club, DadCommander!

I'm neither a mill expert nor a Commander expert, but let's see what kind of advice I can offer. I think Traumatize is the most useful sideboard card here. It's a huge chunk of milling, and commbined with Bruvac the Grandiloquent it can take a player out of the game on the spot. For a suggestion that's not in the sideboard, either Duskmantle Guildmage or Bloodchief Ascension can mill all opponents out and win the game with Mindcrank.

But right now, you're three cards over the maximum. The deck also has a pretty heavy mana curve, so I recommend putting in a few more lands. My first thoughts for cuts are Scourge of Fleets (reliant on islands, lots of cards with similar effects, high mana cost), Spinal Embrace (good combat trick, but clashes with all the bounce and destroy effects, high mana cost), Latchkey Faerie (doesn't do enough for its cost, in my opinion), In Garruk's Wake (very high mana cost, and has several redundancies), and Marsh Flitter (four mana for a 1/1 flier is very expensive, you can pump it four times max, and the two Goblins in the deck are more useful for their abilities than as sacrifice fodder). That's five cut cards, bringing you down to 98. Add two lands, one of them can be the sideboard Tainted Isle, and this will be smoother and more reliable.

There are a few different themes here. There's mill, Rogues, bounce, and reanimator theft. Most of your higher-cost cards look like they're there to take opponents' graveyard cards, which is good support for mill, but you can probably trim down the number you have here. Geth, Lord of the Vault will also help combine the mill and reanimator--I would replace Fated Return with Geth.

Bruvac the Grandiloquent might be worth considering, unless you’re restricted by budget/cards on hand reasons.

This deck looks like it has 101 cards, with two Bruvac the Grandiloquents. Is one of them replacing the other?

Hey wideline1414! Sorry I didn't see your comments til tonight. Aside from Nightscape Familiar, Heartless Summoning doesn't really impact any of the creatures in the deck and most of them it's more important to get them out sooner than having slightly reduced power/toughness. Thanks for the comments! I'd love to see a list if you've got one of your Lord Xander, the Collector!

Agreed on Bruvac the Grandiloquent would make a great addition in here, but neither of my local shops have had him all year. I'm going to some shops on the other part of the state and if I can find one, I'll for sure pick one up. Dropping him down then casting Traumatize would feel so good!

Tur on Hidden Power - Mono-Color - …

Yeah, there are many ways to get big mana.

Here is a story: I was playing a Bruvac the Grandiloquent edh, and I had Bribery in hand. Now, I know that one of my opponents is playing Blightsteel Colossus and another is playing Dockside Extortionist.

So, I played Bribery and got Dockside Extortionist on turn five. Phantasmal Image it. Clever Impersonator it. Make approximately twenty treasure. Play Bruvac the Grandiloquent, Maddening Cacophony, and Relic of Progenitus to mill out most of my opponents library's. Pact of Negation was a backup in case there was removal.

So, Dockside Extortionist allowed a mono-blue mill deck to win on turn five.

Teferi's Tutelage might be strictly better than Psychic Corrosion because you get a loot effect right away. Depends on how you feel about looting. Bruvac the Grandiloquent might give the crabs someone to play with.

Bruvac the Grandiloquent + Persistent Petitioners Also works great. Undead Alchemist can also provide you blockers when you mill opponents creatures.

Without any other infect or proliferate effects, Blighted Agent needs to be actively attacking for several turns, depending on how many pump effects you have out. By itself, it needs to stay active for ten turns, which is an eternity at even semi-competitive tables. It just doesn't have the support to be viable here, and being used as removal bait means that virtually any other creature could take its spot. This also leaves out mass removal, fog effects, attack taxes like Ghostly Prison, and anything else that would prevent it from doing its job.

I think the mill subtheme can be cut. Soaring Thought-Thief is fine, but Bruvac the Grandiloquent and Tasha's Hideous Laughter don't help that much. Also, mill is especially difficult against three other decks, and there's a reasonable chance one of them will be a graveyard deck that welcomes the help.

Elves in general have more support as a tribe, but I wouldn't suggest switching unless you genuinely think you would enjoy Elves more. If you do, I suggest Golgari.
