Brood Birthing

Sorcery

If you control an Eldrazi Spawn, put three 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature tokens onto the battlefield. They have "Sacrifice this creature: Add {{1}} to your mana pool." Otherwise, put one of those tokens onto the battlefield.

Nice! I have a similar deck coming out soon at 5dollarMTG in R/G but I hadn't thought of using Universal Automaton - that's a perfect fit with Brood Birthing.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments! We agree with your first point; a turn two-three Purphy is rather terrifying. We've already tried to put some effort into the deck's construction to make sure we can cast him early, and more of the same would be nice. However, Brood Birthing would not really suit this deck. It would need more, early-casting opportunities (as in turn 1-2) of Eldrazi related stuff in order for us to really benefit from this sorcery. Skirk Prospector makes more sense to us; maybe in exchange for Dragonmaster Outcast . We will give it some thought.

Red is great at damaging stuff, so in that sense it's great at creature removal. The removal you're talking about however; yeah, it's an issue. We've had Chaos Warp in here before. Fact is that the chances of drawing it when we need it are slim. We also have no means to tutor for it. So rather than relying on a lot of luck or relying on more (expensive-to-cast) removal, we figured we were better off ignoring removal entirely and focus on red's strengths instead.

And besides, even if Purphy is removed, we can still create a rather large goblin army and let's not forget Impact Tremors , Burn at the Stake , Marton Stromgald and Descent of the Dragons for some great damage dealing.

Regards,

Mrs. and Mr. NV_1980

Hi,

I was looking round for ideas for my purphoros deck and came across yours and it looks great some aspects i'm going to try to bring in to mine (thankyou sooooo much for Mogg Infestation i had not seen that). Whilst I was here I thought I would share a couple of things I have found to be useful.

1st is something someone pointed out to be about all 4 cost commanders, 2 cost mana acceleration is amazing. Being able to drop purphoros on turn 3 is a huge advantage. Including the 3 that you run i run another 7 ways of getting the big guy out a turn earlier. Two of the ways i run are Brood Birthing and Skirk Prospector which i find are not nothing cards in this deck (skirk prospector is obviously hugely better!)

2nd is removal. unfortunately red decks suffer massively from the lack of this and if someone plays: darksteel mutation, gideon's intervention, song of the dryads, imprisoned in the moon ect (staple cards to remove commanders from the rest of the game). your game goes down hill. that is why i run Chaos Warp in ALL mono red decks and then i also run Meteor Golem (m19 uncommon so probably two recent to have been considered) and Spine of Ish Sah but these later two are far worse than the amazing chaos warp.

Impact Tremors? Brood Birthing? Hand of Emrakul? When did I make this deck? I don't remember making this deck. And how did you get it?

So I went to a tournament in my LGS last saturday and got a mediocre result with this deck.

Out of 12 rounds I played, I only was able to assemble tron round 3 in 4 of the games.
The faces of people facing a Ulamog's Crusher turn 4 is priceless.

I think of the following changes to make the deck more consistent:
- 4x Brood Birthing into 4x Crop Rotation
- 4x Nest Invader into 4x Fierce Empath
- 3x Emrakul's Hatcher for 1 more Rolling Thunder and 2 Radiant Fountain
- 4x Rugged Highlands for 4x Crumbling Vestige
- 3x Druid's Deliverance into 3x Moment's Peace

BTW: Duress was the best card in my sideboard, because a lot of people played B/U Control decks.

Great deck, glad I found this after thinking about Brood Birthing recently. +1

I was wondering though, in those games when you don't have a lot of action right away can you stabilize game 1? I'm wondering if going down to 3 ofs on some or 2 ofs maybe, of some pieces.

But instead of going up more ramp (I personally think there is lots), going up some kind of filtering effect/card advantage. Something like Seek the Wilds, or maybe Bequeathal to put on an Eldrazi Spawn seems not bad. It feels like if you can play Nest Invader as fast as possible then the deck explodes and is hard to catch.

Also your sideboard suggests to me you face a very heavy artifact and enchantment meta yes? Haha. I think I would personally diversify with cards more like Pyroblast, Relic of Progenitus, Squall/Scattershot Archer, Pulse of Murasa and Raze (since it's a ramp deck)/Stone Rain. But hey the Meta is the Meta.

Maybe back up Wincon with Echoing Courage and the Eldrazi Spawn

Again great deck, sorry for the giant post.

There's also the flagbearers: Coalition Flag Coalition Honor Guard Standard Bearer But they don't really have synergy with each other. You might be able to pull some shenanigans if you give a flagbearer hexproof or protection with a changeling out though.

Thelon of Havenwood, Fungal Bloom, Sporesower Thallid, Savage Thallid and Pallid Mycoderm are all listed as saprolings. I don't know if you merged fungus and saproling intentionally, but if you did it might make sense to change saproling tech to saproling/fungus tech.

I would replace one Nest Invader with an Elvish Mystic, and if you wanted two I'd take out an Artisan of Kozilek.

And on further lookins at your deck i'd not recommend Yisan Chord, you lack cards of different costs to search for with him.

Finnaly, Spawning Breath would probably be a better card to take out then Brood Birthing.

One last thing is that if you equip Deathrender to a spawn, and then sacrifice you can get any card out for 2 mana, one of which you get right back.
