Blistergrub

Creature — Phyrexian Horror

Swampwalk (This creature can't be blocked as long as defending player controls a Swamp.)

When Blistergrub dies, each opponent loses 2 life.

Aye, that could potentially work. Only problem is that one of my Swamp Walkers actually Scavenges though; Marsh Boa and Blistergrub prefer to stay alive a bit longer since they're useless in the Yard. I might swap Read the Bones for Sign in Blood or its more expensive counterpart, Night's Whisper since this is a multicolored deck.

I hate how Night's Whisper is more expensive than Sign in Blood because of a single mana symbol lmao.

Mortlocke on New hubs to be added

Hello legendofa,

I propose a new hub to be added: Phyrexian. During Modern Horizons 2, 225 creatures were retconned into having the Phyrexian creature subtype to join Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider . Additionally, there were a smattering of Enchantments, Artifacts and etc that ether have the Phyrexian subtype or create creature tokens that do. Thanks to this retcon I now have a deck that has a Phyrexian tribal theme. For your reference, below is a full list of spells that were affected by WotC's Phyrexian errata.

I like that interaction between Old Teysa and Twilight Drover . I'm definitely going to put old Teysa in in place of Blistergrub . I'll probably drop Pitiless Plunderer for the rites. Twilight Drover is going on the maybeboard. I'd like to get Athreos and Deathgreeter in the deck first. I appreciate the feedback. It helps a lot to look over a list with a different perspective.

@squadcarxmar: I meant to put Teysa, Orzhov Scion in the deck originally but when I was making the final decklist I totally forgot about it. I might drop Blistergrub for it because so far it's been kind of underwhelming. Necropotence is iffy. I have one but in my experience it's more suited towards faster decks and this deck tends to be a little slower, although now that I think about it I should probably put it in my Rakdos deck. Normally I'd put Erebos, God of the Dead in over Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip but from the games I've played with the deck so far the flip side of blood fast is more relevant in this deck. I am thinking about replacing it with Stoneforge Mystic to go and get Skullclamp though, or maybe Vampiric Rites . Not too sure about Twilight Drover . I might give it a shot as more sac fodder.

On another note I'm thinking about removing Sol Ring and possibly Pitiless Plunderer from the deck. So far they've been nothing but win more cards. I'm curious what your thoughts on that are. I appreciate the feedback!

As a long time player of Teysa, Orzhov Scion I'd recommend running her. I run her as my general and plan on using Karlov in my deck. They compliment each other well (but now I gotta rework some of my deck). Not only do you get more tokens as long the creature dying is black but you'll get a lot of creature control out of it. Twilight Drover works really well with either Teysa and with both of them, it gets a little insane. That's also something to consider.

If you want suggestions of what to take out for those two, in my opinion it would be things like Cartel Aristocrat , Blistergrub or Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip. I'm not a fan of that enchantment, I'd rather just run Necropotence but that's my opinion. Blistergrub is at most just 4 life for everyone to eat if you're not pulling back out of the graveyard.

Otherwise, nice deck! I dig it. I'm happy to see a good new Teysa card and new EDH decks based on it, it warms my heart.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that tokens dying does trigger Twilight Drover but if they leave the battlefield in other means (return to hand, exile, etc.) he still gets a +1/+1 counter for each one anyway, which is nice.

About Black's creature base:

The weakest creature in the deck by far currently is 2x Blistergrub, a holdover card that came with this crappy precon. This creature's only value is to hopefully beat down against a board that consists of weak dorks that can't block it efficiently, like Llanowar Elves and Elfhame Druid. It quickly loses value as green can easily put out its 5-drops as early as turn three, blow it out with a Wall of Roots, and make it worthless in general. It's quite likely that these will be cut in the future to make room for 4x Deathbloom Thallid, a creature with much better aggressive stats and much better value, or even better, a hypothetical 3-drop monoblack flyer that synergizes with sacrifice effects or graveyard recursion. I would enjoy such a card in this deck if I knew of its existence, so I will keep searching.
