Black Market Connections is an amazing card, and I have copies of it in several of my decks, but I wonder how it is at all balanced, given that it produces so much value for a relatively small and one-time payment of mana. It heavily outclasses both Bitterblossom and Phyrexian Arena in a significant number of situations, and has a very lenient mana cost, so I think that it would have been perfectly balanced at 4 mana (with a heavier color weight in its cost; i.e., ).

What does everyone else say about this? How is Black Market Connections at all balanced?

Appreciate it, I like the Sphinx of the Second Sun idea, I might trade that for something. I have Bitterblossom in the maybe board, I might try swapping it in to see how it does. I think there's a good amount of self damaging upkeep triggers here so I don't know if Bitterblossom makes the cut. Braid of Fire seems nice if I have more instant speed spells/abilities I want to do on my turn, but I don't. Maybe if I put in Jhoira and the tenth doctor.

Have you ever considered Oona's Blackguard to go with that Bitterblossom? It works wonders in my unblockable deck If Do Right, No Can Defense.

looks fun! You might want Sphinx of the Second Sun which can help give you some upkeep-redundency in games where you just can't get in for damage with Obeka for whatever reason. Although it's a hefty casting cost at 8 mana.

In the same vein as Star Whale is Deep-Sea Kraken, one of my fav Time Spiral cards. Although I'm not sure it's better than Star Whale. I just like seeing old cards getting powered-up and remade for new sets.

Bitterblossom could also be fun in this deck if you can get more connect with Obeka and get extra upkeeps.

Lastly, Braid of Fire could be good if you want to move to a more instant/sorcery heavy strategy.

Why do you need so many blockers? honestly, it's just a casual 1v1 deck. If I haven't won by turn 5 or 6, then the deck isn't working.

I can definitely see myself trading out one of my blockers for Bitterblossom.

Contamination is always a great card, but may be too OP for my playgroup. Thanks for the upvote.

Thank you for your patience. I thought there was a deck that you told me to comment on that I have yet to comment on, my mind is playing tricks on me. Anyways....

Why do you need so many blockers? Is your meta more battle cruiser? I personally like (instant speed) removal but it really depends on your meta and power level. No Mercy has always been hit or miss for me. Its good because it's a deterrent, but sometimes people will just stall out for 1-2 turns (which is nice) but then just overrun you and the trigger falls of the stack as you die.

Alternatively, another blocker with flying could be Bitterblossom. Should you wish, you could add a Contamination to synergize with it, although it might be a tad too anti-synergistic given you run coffers, lake, nykthos.

Mausoleum Secrets might always be worth considering given that you run a bunch of creatures. Do keep in mind you can only tutor for black cards though.

Skullclamp is not half bad to get some return on your creatures. Is also nice with bitterblossom.

Lastly, a fringe suggestion is Awaken the Erstwhile. You make a bunch of creatures that you can use to draw more cards. You can mess with opposing tutors (potentially).

I have a similar build, and love navigating Mari. Opponents never see her coming. I don't run Dauthi though, as it's counter-productive to Mari's hit counters. Maybe think of Ravenloft Adventurer, as hit counters still count with removal even without Mari on the board. I also run Dictate of Erebos, Necropotence, Bitterblossom, and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse for the extra removal and recursion bonus.

This deck seems very .... confused. On one hand you have swamp synergies, on the other sacrifice synergies, and then you have weird cards like Elder Brain that don't fit into either. I'd suggest picking one of the two theme's and sticking to it.

Cards I would suggest cutting:

Withercrown (just not a good card)

Crypt Incursion (Too situational, its going to be dead a lot of the time)

Xathrid Gorgon (Too slow)

Visara the Dreadful (Removal magnet + too slow)

Consume Spirit (There are better mana sinks than this)

Corrupt (Needs too many swamps to be worth the mana)

Liliana's Shade (Also just not a good card)

Elder Brain (just a weird card in general and too inconsistent)

Cards I would suggest adding:

Abhorrent Overlord (Makes a buch of creatures for your sacrifice triggers)

Pontiff of Blight, Thrull Parasite, Basilica Screecher (More extort cards that synergize very well with K'rrik)

Exsanguinate (Better mana sink than consume spirit)

Nirkana Revenant (Another mana doubler for swamps)

Vein Ripper (Very good for this kind of deck, but it just came out and is currently pricey so I'd wait to buy this one)

Bitterblossom, Dreadhorde Invasion (make a creature every turn for your sacrifice outlets)

Viscera Seer the classic free sacrifice outlet. Also see Woe Strider

Ayara, First of Locthwain (Free creature with K'rrik out and pings opponents every time a black creature enters which usually happens a lot with sac decks)
