Assault Suit

Artifact — Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+2, has haste, can't attack you or a planeswalker you control, and can't be sacrificed.

At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, you may have that player gain control of equipped creature until end of turn. If you do, untap it.

Equip (: Attach this to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature this card is attached to leaves the battlefield.)

Hey ShieldOfHolyShadows your reasoning makes a lot of sense to me. I admire that you don't want to compromise the nature of deck, and I think keeping it less aggressive and allowing your opponents to make their own choices is really cool.

In light of that, I believe the non-threatening facade of the deck paired with Noble Heritage's built-in protection means you don't need to run cards like Windborn Muse and Ghostly Prison. Also those propaganda effects are slightly antithetical to your ethos imo. Yes the opponent still has a choice, but is it much of a choice? Pay a bunch of mana to attack me (the non-threat), or attack the real threat for free. Also why would they attack you in the first place unless they absolutely had to, at which point you use your aikido cards right?

As for the angel subtheme, I am a big anti-lifegain person haha. I think lifegain is pointless without payoffs (e.g. cards like Light of Promise). In fact, it gives opponents an excuse to attack you because you have the most life. As for having flying blockers, this may be personal bias, but I rarely see someone snag a win because they had multiple connects with beefy fliers. Combat-based wins are already pretty uncommon and when they do happen, the horde/voltron is overhwelming. Having a couple angels on board would not save you.

I think spurring combat between opponents makes more sense than hiding. It allows opponents to take each other out with damage when otherwise they wouldn't be able to. It also makes your aikido cards hit harder. Hiding is slower and aids the combo and control players. Maybe you already considered these but here are a few more warmongery cards that come to mind: Assault Suit, Rite of the Raging Storm, Varchild's War-Riders, Dictate of the Twin Gods, Combat Calligrapher

Cool deck! You might consider giving these a try: Assault Suit, Teleportation Circle, Galepowder Mage

I think speed is the most important part of Voltron. The strategy needs to rack up the damage as quickly as possible to avoid giving opponents time to respond to your threat(s). This means cheating on costs, and playing very cheap commanders that are hard to interact with.

Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh, and Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist, for example, are a very difficult pair to interact with, because they can cheat costs (Colossus Hammer :D ), have evasion, and are low CMC. The first turn is spent playing them, and subsequent turns are spent building up your threats. If they are removed, you can esaily recast them, or use Ardenn to make another random creature a massive threat

Commanders like Balan, Wandering Knight, or Uril, the Miststalker are slow(er), don't intrinsically have evasive abilities, and require you to wait on them to build up, so once they're gone you're severely set back.

Sometimes you're not fast enough though, and Voltron tends to turn into a very political deck at that point as you try to get opponents to let your threat stick in order to deal with other opponents. "If you don't remove my creature I can stop player C from winning next turn".

You usually still lose at this point though if everyone knows what they're doing. Speed is of the essence.

This is why I love utilizing other players combats. You could limit yourself to one combat, but cards like Assault Suit can quadruple how fast you're killing your opponents (and has the perk of preventing the pesty sacrifice that was mentioned).

This is also why Slicer, Hired Muscle  Flip has been so competitive, because it's Assault Suit built into a commander with incredibly aggressive stats -- 28 damage a turn cycle is more than most decks can do with lots of setup, and that's just the minimum. It can come down turn 1, and no one wants to remove it because everyone wants to use it. It's free damage!

Voltron, while more direct than a Giant Growth, does tend to play a lot of the same head games with people to make your creature stick as long as possible.

So for this specific question we have Balan, Wandering Knight with Assault Suit and Anduril, Flame of the West attached and I allow my opponent to gain control of Balan and they attack, what happens? Take into consideration that I still control Anduril and all the other equipment, but can I really create attacking tokens? Do they come into play under my control?

seshiro_of_the_orochi first of all, Goreclaw is ADORABLE and your whole deck is full of fluffy fluffballs that should be cuddled, I fully agree with you there. Assault Suit is perfect, I can already think of so many fun things to do with that. Thank you!

FormOverFunction you delivered absolute gems when I thought I wanted this to be a chaotic deck, and here you are again with another, thanks!

I'm still not great at searching for cards, I have to say. Like, I'll usually go on scryfall and do something like "you target player draw", but that'll pull up a lot of cards I don't want, and not everything I do want. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take the time to look at the weird cards in that way.

That definitely sounds hilarious. I tend to go "into character" when playing Goreclaw, but that's rather me being silly about my 10/10 juggernauts being adorable.

A card to consider for the deck could be Assault Suit.
