Artifact Mutation

Instant

Destroy target artifact. It can't be regenerated. Create X 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens, where X is that artifact's converted mana cost/mana value.

DemonDragonJ on Eislinda and Vernalia

I have designed my own character inspired by the Snow Queen from Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale of the same name, a rival for her, as well as several cards associated with each of them. I assure the users here that my posting of an ice queen shortly after WotC revealed theirs is pure coincidence, as I had this idea in my head for some time, but simply never had sufficient free time to post it, before now, so here is what I have produced.

Eislinda, the Ice Queen Show

Eislinda represents calm logic and deliberate, methodical action, as evidenced by how her ability is an activated ability, and her name contains the word "eis," which is German for "ice."

Eislinda's Disdain Show

This card is a smaller version of Punish Ignorance in the same way that Countersquall is a smaller version of Undermine.

Icy Rebuke Show

I modeled this card after non-blue counterspells, such as Dawn Charm and Rebuff the Wicked, because I found those spells to be too limited but I do not believe that this spell is too powerful or a color pie break, since it still is fairly limited in what it can do.

Eisheim, the Frozen Palace Show

Most utility lands do not produce colored mana, so I wished to make one that did, and I ensured that it also had an ability for each color of mana that it could produce. I hope that this land is not too powerful, but, if it is, I certainly would appreciate feedback on how to better balance it.

Now that I have displayed Eislinda and cards associated with her, I shall introduce her rival.

Vernalia, Herald of Spring Show

Vernalia is the opposite of Eislinda; she represents growth, rebirth, and passion, while Eislinda represent death, darkness, and apathy, but she also represents instinct, intuition, and unconscious action, as demonstrated by her abilities being triggered abilities, while Eislinda's abilities are activated abilities. Her name contains the word "vernal," which is Latin for "of, or relating to, Spring."

Vernalia's Grasp Show

I am very surprised that WotC has not yet printed a card that combines Artifact Mutation and Aura Mutation, so I have made such a card, and I feel that it is perfectly balanced at costing 3 mana, while the other two cards have a combined mana value of 4.

Grunwald, Cradle of Spring Show

I had contemplated having the green ability put a +1/+1 counter on a creature, but that would require that there be a creature on the battlefield, so I changed it to always be useful. "Grunwald" is German for "green forest," which, I suppose, is somewhat redundant, in the context of this game.

What does everyone else say about these cards? I spend a great amount of time and effort designing them, so I welcome any feedback that anyone has to offer!

Forgot to say what to take out for the three cards above: Green Sun's Twilight, Hull Breach, Lukka, Bound to Ruin. The Twilight is unrealiable until you spend a lot of mana into it. The Breach is sorcery-speed. The planeswalker does not do much here.

Now some small upgrades you can make:

For global haste you can use Fires of Yavimaya, Concordant Crossroads, Mass Hysteria, and Urabrask the Hidden who will also conveniently turn off other people's haste. Anger and Barbarian Class also give haste after more effort.

Ant Queen, Artifact Mutation, Battle Hymn, Circle of Dreams Druid, Dragon Broodmother, Pest Infestation, Scute Swarm, Tempt with Vengeance, Sylvan Offering, Termagant Swarm are all useful if you can give haste to all of them.

Birds of Paradise is just the best mana dork.

You have green, so you might as well use the standard ramp package with Cultivate , Kodama's Reach, Explore , Farseek, , Rampant Growth, Three Visits and Nature's Lore. Probably ignore most mana rocks, because people are going to want to vandalblast you just because of the treasures.

Relentless Assault, Scourge of the Throne, Combat Celebrant, Hexplate Wallbreaker, World at War grant extra combats, with Hellkite Charger and Aggravated Assault potentially going infinite.

Vandalblast goes in every red deck. Even though youll have a ton of treasures i'd still run Brotherhood's End too

For draw spells consider Scroll Rack, Garruk's Uprising, Elemental Bond, Soul's Majesty, Furious Rise, Rishkar's Expertise, Beast Whisperer, Shamanic Revelation, Disciple of Bolas, Pact of the Serpent, Painful Truths, Harmonize, Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, Read the Bones, Ambition's Cost, Ancient Craving, Damnable Pact, Commune with Lava, Lifeblood Hydra, or maybe Necropotence although the color restricion on necro is tough, treasures should take care of it.

Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer , The Reaver Cleaver , Gadrak, the Crown-Scourge , Ancient Copper Dragon , Old Gnawbone Ziatora, the Incinerator for more treasure makers. Pyrohemia and Pestilence could be fun with the extra mana. Awaken the Woods is an amazing x spell too, but wont appreciate the two aforementioned cards.

If you're using magda the deck will benefit from dragons and expensive artifacts. throw in Imperial Recruiter and Worldly Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, and Demonic Tutor all go in your colors. so you can get her more consistently. Darksteel Forge and Gate to Phyrexia can be tutored into play with her for five treasure.

If you use dragons, you could add Dragonstorm, but you should carefully consider how many cheap spells you expect to be able to cast if you arent building specifically towards this card. Chatterstorm, Empty the Warrens, Yawgmoth's Will, Jeska's Will, Mana Geyser, and Manamorphose, Past in Flames are all good on their own and would add synergy.

If it ends up dragon tribal, cards like Crippling Fear , Kindred Dominance, Crux of Fate

Swashbuckler Extraordinaire is a very good payoff for using treasures if you dont use certain other nightmarish dragons like Atarka, World Render, Blast-Furnace Hellkite, Terror of Mount Velus, Thrakkus the Butcher

Welcome to big board state club! (I used to run G/W populate back in the day).

Disclaimer: not sure what your budget is for recommendations, so I'm going to go by what I see here (Dockside, Smothering Tithe, Parallel Lives level of cost for individual recommendations).

I think Ghired, Conclave Exile would make a better commander here than Palladia-Mors, unless you're tied to the latter for sentimentality/flavor/etc.

Next, land base. The single best thing I did for my Esper deck was upgrading my land base. You don't have to go super hard here to see results, but I would put together a list like: 1x Cabaretti Courtyard 1x Command Tower 1x Jungle Shrine 1x Sungrass Prairie 1x Rockfall Vale 1x Branchloft Pathway  Flip 1x Needleverge Pathway  Flip 1x Rogue's Passage 1x Kessig Wolf Run 1x Gavony Township. If you like this route, there are even more cheaper dual lands you can add in like the Temple of Triumph and friends.

There are a few cuts or substitutions that I think the main deck could make really easily:

Ultramarines Honour Guard -> Caller of the Pack. If Ghired attacks with a creature that has Myriad, he can populate the token that Myriad creates, but the Populated token forgets about the exile clause. Thus, you can end up with a theoretically infinite horde of creatures. It's fantastic. :D

Going off that last bit... Wayfaring Temple -> Treasure. Basically a great card in commander anyway, here it's a free win if you manage to clone it.

Growing Ranks is an easy cut. It's way too slow for EDH (compare it to Parallel Lives...) Could replace it with a Talisman of Conviction or friends to help you ramp faster.

I would replace Momentous Fall with Teferi's Protection or Akroma's Will or Grand Crescendo - some extra source of board wipe dodging. I don't think your creatures are really big enough to warrant a momentous fall.

I would also replace Druid's Deliverance with one of the aforementioned board wipe dodges. There are also some cheaper options like Your Temple is Under Attack, Unbreakable Formation, Make a Stand. Reasoning being: you should have enough board state to block things that want to hurt you, as long as you keep your board alive.

As far as making tokens sooner: well, if you want to do that, you're going to have to run some cheaper creatures.... or ramp faster. I'd probably opt for ramping faster, TBH, since your creatures are really cool. If you add the entire Gruul Signet and friends, along with the Talismans I mentioned earlier, that should get you to the minimum ramp package in tricolor EDH to make sure you can play quickly.

Naya Charm -> Artifact Mutation can help make some earlier tokens.

Brindle Shoat and Call of the Conclave are some decent options for turn 3 tokens you might consider, as well. But adding those would also require cutting other stuff.... horrible choice I don't envy you : P

Sorry for the wall of text...Hope that helps, and happy building!

Amazing deck! I did not realise there was someone before me with this idea, and I love how your deck is looking. Cards to consider for your Maybeboard: Acorn Catapult, Death by Dragons, Elephant Resurgence, Kamahl's Summons, Plague of Vermin, Tempt with Vengeance, Artifact Mutation, Dowsing Dagger  Flip, Curse of Disturbance, Liege of the Hollows, Sawtusk Demolisher, Akroan Horse, Hungry Lynx, Life of the Party, Sleeper Agent, Tahngarth, First Mate and lets not forget the "Hunted" cycle with Hunted Horror, Hunted Dragon and Hunted Troll

Love the list, but I think you should definitely add in more mana dorks instead your land ramp and signets (You can keep rampant growth and farseek probably). We want to have as many creatures as possible, so every card in our deck that isn't a creature is reducing our synergy by a lot. Llanowar Elves, Fyndhorn Elves, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Elvish Mystic, Druid of the Anima and any other dork you'd want to run not only ramp us even more, but add to our creature count and become extra damage for us later in the game.

Artifact Mutation and Pest Infestation are awesome and would go well with your aura mutation that's already in the list.

DreadKhan on The Rock: Bad commander & good cards with no sense

I'm working on a pod of Legends-led decks that are somewhat like this, I also settled on Sunastian for Gruul. It's mostly budget Eldrazi atm, but there are a few things in your build that I'm taking a look at!

Not sure if you need it in your meta, but maybe a Warping Wail to protect yourself from wipes? Not of This World works with some of your biggies to protect them, and Artifact Mutation is really funny if you've ever got Blightsteel out. Not sure if you've got lots of countermagic in your pod, but Spellbreaker Behemoth can help you resolve your big stuff, while Spearbreaker Behemoth can help protect big stuff. There is also Vexing Shusher, but again, very much requires people to run counters against you. War Cadence is a weird card that can make your creatures very hard to block if you've got a board, but it can also be used to tax blockers on someone else's turn, IE if they aren't attacking you.

Cool idea, not being the archenemy from the start of the game can be a nice change, and it doesn't mean you can't end up winning later.
