Cool deck! Personally I would make these swaps:

Propaganda -> Cephalid Broker
Ethersworn Sphinx -> Alhammarret's Archive
Jhoira's Familiar -> Shorikai, Genesis Engine
Hydroid Krasis -> Arcanis the Omnipotent
Whirler Rogue -> Rise and Shine

The cards you listed aren't Standard-legal, but this thread ended up in the Standard deck help forum.

Are you trying to make a Standard deck, or a deck with Counterspell, Arcanis the Omnipotent, etc.?

is dipping somewhat in Standard right now, but still has some tools. is cresting and has a lot of support. and are also strong Standard options.

If you want to use the cards you listed, Modern's going to be the format.

How competitive do you want the deck to be? Are you planning on entering tournaments, or playing casually? Do you want to stay under a specific deck or per-card budget?

Suppose I have Arcanis the Omnipotent and Intruder Alarm on the battlefield. My opponent taps Krenko, Mob Boss for 10 goblins. There are 10 triggers on the stack, not just one (this is confirmed on scryfall). Can I tap Arcanis in response to each of these triggers, effectively drawing 30 cards from this interaction?

Follow up: Suppose I also have Naban, Dean of Iteration on the battlefield and I cast Cursecatcher. There will be 2 triggers on the stack this time, so if the logic of the previous example holds up, I can draw 6 cards. Am I correct here?

I really like your deck, the Locust God is one of my favourite cards!

As a friendly suggestion: it could be really fun to lean more heavily into card draw with your creatures. For example, Archmage Emeritus is a really strong draw engine that fits perfect in your deck, and Arcanis the Omnipotent will be reprinted in the new Dominario Remastered set :).

Glad to be of help! It was late and I realized after I suggested still a few things you had already included but by a later point couldn't go back to edit them. I admit I never got into asking some questions perhaps on the exact power level or anything like that but I get why you might not wish to add some of these. I use all the ones named regarding that self-mill strategy (Laboratory Maniac etc) in a Kruphix, God of Horizons deck I have which is capable of some explosive plays when I start generating ridiculous amounts of mana and or cast something like Omniscience with ways to draw a crazy amount of cards. But it also plays a bunch of big creatures like the Eldrazi if I want to win in a more straightforward, combat-focused way. I get the appeal of wanting to build up a big boardstate, and Simic colours are great for that.

I'll also just say that I started Magic back in approx 2013 and was the colour pair I fell in love with for deckbuilding and during my first little while with the game me and some friends played at a pretty casual level too. In fact, before I even knew much of anything about all the various formats, I played a Simic deck which was like 80 cards filled with stuff like an Arcanis the Omnipotent with multiple ways to untap it and some other things with useful activated abilities, a playset of Roil Elementals which I protected with counterspells and Archetype of Endurance (they were fun to use alongside Explosive Vegetation and similar effects), Lifeblood Hydra, Horizon Chimera were others, and finally some goodies like Prophet of Kruphix (rip its commander banning) and later additions like Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger.

Some of this became a Vorel of the Hull Clade commander deck for a while, but I still really always liked the theme of lands early on which is why I made a Lord Windgrace deck and now most recently an Omnath, Locus of Creation deck.

And having a lot of lands can be made to work, it's for one thing unfortunate that many of the cards in this theme which allow you to play extra lands from hand or graveyard are so costly even despite some reprints so there were a lot of ideas I skipped suggesting. I still think you should keep an eye out for Ramunap Excavator if you have a good chance to acquire one because you do have a significant number of lands which either can be sacrificed, cycled, or in some way become a creature and at some point die, so having another way to earn a few more back could be useful outside of World Shaper, Splendid Reclamation, and The Mending of Dominaria which I see is nonetheless your general gameplan.

Some of my decks which can be seen on my profile are complete / nearly fully owned, but yet others I build them how I want them to be eventually a little later and I definitely get wanting to make choices that are budget friendly with myself still as a student. I have for one thing been smart or simply gotten lucky and picked up a lot of cards from buying/trades when they were either cheap / reprinted over the years which has made a few of my decks creep up in price now (my best example of this was acquiring a Sliver Queen for $100 CAD worth of trades (approx $76 US) like five years ago. Anyway, if I do think of more stuff which could be of use here I'll let you know btw!

The only infinite combos with Wurms that I can think of off the top of my head are infinite tokens with Ashnod's Altar + Nim Deathmantle + Wurmcoil Engine/Symbiotic Wurm.

The combos I was originally thinking of were infinite mana using Bloom Tender/Faeburrow Elder/Sanctum Weaver + Freed from the Real/Pemmin's Aura.

You are already running 2/3 of the creatures and the auras can also be used with Arcanis the Omnipotent, Elvish Piper, and Howlpack Piper  Flip so they can still work with your game plan even outside of the combos.

I can respect wanting to keep a deck within a particular power range though. I think that the best games are ones where it feels like everyone is on about the same level and have a roughly equal chance at taking the win.

Hi, Profet93,

I agree with you that drawing is better than scrying, but scrying is just a lot cheaper to do. From the scry cards I currently play, I would not drop Jace, Mirror Mage, because I enjoy playing it, and I would not drop Behold the Multiverse, because its a nice instant draw spell.

That only leaves Retreat to Coralhelm, if Im not overlooking something. I might consider removing Retreat to Coralhelm at some point because it doesnt have that much synergy with the rest of the deck. Earlier, I played both Arcanis the Omnipotent and Walking Atlas, which were really good with it, but now I only have Azami, Lady of Scrolls left.

However, it does give me a free scry per round for three mana, which is pretty nice. And it does synergize with Azami, Lady of Scrolls as well as potentially being usefull for tapping annoying blockers. Maybe in a situation where I have a big Sturmgeist on the table and my opponent has a single flying blocker it could do some work.

So.. Keeping the scrying cards for now I think.

You mention more "card draw" -cards, did you have any spesific ones in mind? Any card suggestions?
