Aquitect's Will

Tribal Sorcery — Merfolk

Put a flood counter on target land. That land is an Island in addition to its other types as long as it has a flood counter on it. If you control a Merfolk, draw a card.

Have you considered Halimar Depths? That can help a bit with Card advantage.

Also, I think Aquitect's Will would be a better choice than Seas' Claim due to the potential card draw. If you choose to add Deeproot Waters, tribal spells would count towards DR's triggered ability. It will also feed into Merrow Reejerey. Speaking of Tribal, Merrow Commerce gives your merfolk pseudo-vigilance.

Hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

Great concept! It can get big in a hurry. I would ditch the counter spells since they don't synergize with anything else and those slots can be better used to turn opponent lands into islands for your islandwalking.

Aquitect's Will is $0.27 and works to get your damage through. Spreading Seas is another reliable favorite. Sea's Claim is another trick.

Then simply enjoy the creative insults your opponents begin hurling at you!

Hi TheoryCrafter! Those Stormtides in the sideboard were not meant to be there haha, thanks for pointing it out!

The problem with Aquitect's Will is that it just doesn't do much (because it doesn't choke the opponent on mana). I'd much rather play more copies of Spreading Seas, and even so I'm not sure if we need the full playset in the 75.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

I noticed you have 3 copies of Stormtide Leviathan in your sideboard. Between your opening deck and your sideboard you may only have four copies of a card.

Also, Have you considered Aquitect's Will? It's an early game method to create Islands for your opponents without depending too much on creatures and draws you a card.

I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

DBCooper Aquitect's Will is not a good card. It's not guaranteed to draw a card, and it doesn't turn off opponent's lands.

@DocHostile what are your thoughts on Merfolk Branchwalker? I think it could replace 2 of the Merfolk Mistbinders to keep you drawing gas and help find answers when a lord won't do. Considering you're also running the 8 islandwalk lords and 3 reejereys, I'm not sure the mistbinder will have enough impact.

timtasticc: Apologies for missing your comment, because I like your advice. I'd like to add all of those cards in some capacity, but unfortunately I have to purchase them all. I don't seem to have any left in my collection. =(

Goblinking81: And sadly it's the same deal here. I did the 2-and-2 split because that's all I got currently. And I don't even have any Spreading Seas either. =\ And I'm not sure I'd take Aquitect's Will out completely, but I couple see using 4x Spreading Seas and 2x Aquitect's Will to even out my mana curve.

Thanks for the advice guys, wish I could follow it. =) I'll get these cards eventually, just not sure when.

Great work! I think Aquitect's Will is a great cheap add that makes merfolk's islandwalk ability even more potent. Also, I like Cold-Eyed Selkie for some more draw power. Your deck honestly looks great!

zapyourtumor: vial isn't a guarantee, and in every game it's not drawn, counter spells become counter productive. the fact that "nobody uses" Aquitect's Will is irrelevant. Spreading Seas is inferior because it can be removed. i've won games against merfolk that i would have lost had they used Aquitect's Will instead. Tide Shaper does not make the will obsolete in the slightest. it costs extra mana and doesn't draw a card.

comparing vial to coco is irrelevant since i never said to use coco "instead" of vial. what i said was use both.

i know what Merrow Reejerey is, i can read. Phantasmal Image becomes a cheaper lord, and kopala offers better protection than svyelun. not anywhere near as good? maybe to scyelun, hence why i said use both. but kopala is leagues better than reejery.

in the future, don't comment just to argue with me. 24 lands in a coco deck would not be insane. i obviously would not suggest 24 lands in a deck where everything cost 3 or less. btw fetchlands exist to thin the deck, and Aquitect's Will offers card draw. so it's not as bad as you think.
