Creature (2)

This is a Jeskai Control/Midrange centered around three planeswalkers: Teferi, Time Raveler; both Narsets - Narset, Parter of Veils; Narset of the Ancient Way; and Chandra, Awakened Inferno. It also includes Yidaro, Wandering Monster and Shark Typhoon.

The Gameplan

_

The gameplan is as Jeskai as Jeskai gets; trade one-for-one with your cards, gain incremental advantage from the planeswalkers, and finish the opponent with shark tokens, Yidaro, Wandering Monster or Chandra, Awakened Inferno emblem. Apart from Narset, Parter of Veils, every single one of our planeswalkers, at the very least, trades with our opponent's things. Both Teferi and Narset of the Ancient Way answers and cantrips at the same time. Chandra, Awakened Inferno can act as a board wipe and a removal that also exiles.

Narset of the Ancient Way is an all-star in the deck. With so many 5+ cmc spells, she can basically shoot down some of the biggest creatures and planeswalkers in Standard at the moment. The fact that her -2 is a "may" ability is absolutely huge. Her +1 is relevant against many aggro decks, can ramp you to Chandra, Awakened Inferno a turn early, and allows you to grind even against Cat-Oven. It goes without saying that Elspeth Conquers Death + Narset of the Ancient Way is some of the best synergy in the deck; chuck a Yidaro, Wandering Monster to kill a big thing, and reanimate it with ECD for a sudden big burst of damage.

Aside from our threats, we have access to Deafening Clarion and Shatter the Sky, which makes the deck pretty favorable game 1 versus aggro decks.

The Transition

_

Aside from being a tap-out style control deck, this list is able to switch gears and become a mid-range deck that can kill surprisingly fast with the help of the 4-of Bonecrusher Giant, especially against ultra-control decks like Azorius control or Flash decks. At best, BG can win games single-handedly; at worst, it will eat a counter which will stall the opponent's board development and make it easier for your planeswalkers to resolve in the future. Especially post-board where opponents will likely board in Mystical Dispute, the Stomp half of BG is the best turn two and turn three play of the deck most of the time.

Post-board

Grafdigger's Cage is so good in the current meta - it hits Cat-Oven decks, Gyruda, Uro, Kroxa, UB Reanimation decks, Izzet Phoenix, the whole shebang. We complement the Cage with 2-of Hushbringer which is also great against Thassa, Deep-Dwelling.

We are not running Mystical Dispute ourselves because we are not interested in counter wars, and we want to reduce the number of dead cards against any blue decks. This deck can play around opposing Disputes well enough through judicious timing of Bonecrusher Giant, Shark Typhoon tokens, and uncounterable Chandra. We are, however, still running 2-of Dovin's Veto, because of how good it is at countering key non-creature spells especially on turn 2-5.

The usual suspects for the aggro matchups is present in the board too; we are only running 2-of each of Scorching Dragonfire and Devout Decree, simply because the main deck is already pretty well-positioned against aggro in general.

Against hyper-control decks, we have 2-of of Legion Warboss. A resolved Warboss can take over games in very short order. There is some consideration for playing [Robber of the Rich] instead, but I like the fact that Warboss leaves behind bodies that, along with Shark Typhoon tokens and Bonecrusher Giant, can help close out games super quick.

But No Inspired Ultimatum?

_

I want Inspired Ultimatum to be good. But after playing with it some, it is just so clunky. The colour cost is surprisingly not the issue with the card - the problem lies with just how soft it is to Mystical Disputes, and its reliance on Teferi to be any good. We already have Big Narset to draw us cards and deal with big things, and she provides incremental life gain anyway. As a win-con, Chandra, Awakened Inferno is much more reliable, can be cast on turn 5 thanks to Big Narset, is not soft to Disputes, and is super versatile in general.

But No Dream Trawler??

It might be correct to rely on the Trawler as our finisher, but I have my reasons; firstly, it is soft to Disputes. Secondly, Narset, Parter of Veils can't find it. Lastly, I do not want to give Gyruda, Doom of Depths any targets from our deck.

The Weakness

_

The worst matchup for this deck is, without a doubt, the Esper Bolas deck. We don't handle discard spells all that well aside from the Dovin's Veto in the sideboard. A resolved Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God is also bad news because it can copy our planeswalkers abilities, all of which are good. The Elderspell is obviously very good against us. Because of our reliance in one-for-one trades, Atris, Oracle of Half-Truths is annoying to deal with. Apart from that, Nissa, Who Shakes the World is still a massive pain in the behind, because of the land token she leaves behind.

What's With the Lands?

_

Man, Rare wildcards are hard to come by, alright? I'm working on getting the Triomes.
