Protection issue
Asked by Colten_Lee 9 years ago
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn Supreme Verdict , Day of Judgment , etc.
So I was recently playing a game where my opponent got Emrakul out, and the proceeded to use Supreme Verdict next turn. And then we argued bc I said his Emrakul would die too, and he disagreed. So who was right?

You were. Protection does very specific things, which you can remember with the acronym DEBT.
D-DamagedE-Enchanted/EquippedB-BlockedT-Targeted
If it isn't one of those four things, protection doesn't apply.

The same thing happens to things with protection from blue being countered on the stack by Counterflux

Protection does not function in any zone other than the battlefield. A card that has protection from blue or protection from spells can still be countered.
Also, this question is a year old.

You are. Protection does 4 things
Can't be
Damaged by things with X valueEnchanted by things with X valueBlocked by creatures with X valueTargetted by things with X value
Day of judgement does none of these things (it is not an aura spell, and does not say target on it) and so protection from white, or coloured spells, will do nothing to save Emrakul. She dead bro
