Phyrexian Arena Solitary Confinement combo

How does this combo work? Also can someone actually post a link on the ruling of this? I think the lose 1 life from Phyrexian Arena should be negated by Solitary Confinement, but I get both answers saying you lose life and you don't. Please help!
Unfortunately, this specific issue is not directly addressed within the rules. That being said, loss of life and damage are two separate things. For solitary confinement to prevent the loss of life from phyrexian Arena, it would have to have the text your life total can't change or the text you cannot lose life. As that is not the case solitary confinement does not prevent the loss of life from phyrexian Arena.

Yeah damage and loss of life are two separate things. Solitary Confinement prevents damage, Phyrexian Arena doesn't deal any damage.

That being said, its worth noting that damage causes loss of life. So if it was the opposite and said you cant lose life, and something dealt you damage, you wouldnt lose life.

Are you not the target of Phyrexian Arena's ability? If so, then it wouldn't work in the first place

baritone0645: Not at all. Nothing is ever the target of anything unless the spell or ability in question specifically uses the word "target". The ONLY "exceptions" to this are keyword effects that use the word target in their reminder text/rules, such as "Equip" or "Enchant [Object]".

Losing life isnt the same as being dealt damage so SC doesnt stop you from losing life from Arena.
