Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and Intruder Alarm

Asked by Swebb87 4 months ago

I have Inalla, Archmage Ritualist and Intruder Alarm and 5 random vanilla wizards in play. Proper to casting a 6 wizard, I tap my 5 wizards to activate Inalla's ability. Then cast my 6th wizard which triggers intruder alarm which untaps all my creatures.

Can I hold priority between the new wizard ETB and before I pay the 1 to Inalla's eminence ability? Which would allow me to tap 5 wizards again prior to the copy coming in and untap all creatures when the copy ETB? This giving me 3 Inalla activations in this example?

Or do I have to pay the 1 if I want to use Inalla's eminence ability as the new wizard ETB?

Both abilities go on the stack in the order of your choosing. You can respond to either one by adding more things to the stack.

So yes, you can tap 5 wizards again prior to the copy coming in, and then untap again when the copy enters.

Another note: In this example you can still get what you want even if you put the triggers in the other order. If you let Inalla's trigger resolve first, the Wizard token entering will cause Intruder Alarm to trigger again, so now you have 2 Alarm triggers waiting on the stack. After the newer Alarm trigger resolves, instead of passing and letting the original trigger resolve you can respond by activating Inalla's ability again. Then after you're done with that, you can let the original Alarm trigger resolve and untap your team again.
