What to do against mono black aggro?

Hello everyone!
I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to make my Merfolk deck effective enough to beat mono black midrange vampires.
My spouse chose the vampires as his first deck and I didn't know it would be so strong.
So far my Merfolk deck is quite good against the vampires, but in the end lacks the speed to deliver the finishing blow. That is, as long as the control cards, like Feast of Blood or Gatekeeper of Malakir, don't eradicate my creatures.

You might want to change the category of this thread, as the decks aren't standard-legal, so "standard deck help" is probably the wrong forum. It looks like you either want to be in Modern or Casual.
Looking at the lists, your Merfolk list looks mostly-fine, and honestly should be stronger than what the vampires are doing. It might just be that your partner is out-piloting you.
As far as improvements go, Merfolk can be a little slow without Aether Vial, and to make up for that I'd recommend going up to 22 lands. Added to that I'd look to maybe get some slightly better merfolk. Merfolk Sovereign feels like your weakest merfolk. Something like Tide Shaper would be a lot better here.
