Specific Playgroup Tuning:

I always find Soul of New Phyrexia as a dead card in my hand, except that time when I had infinite mana with Planar Bridge on the battlefield. I find Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant better because it's cheaper to cast, it's a permanent that I can tutor, in instant speed and with a bonus anti-extra turn ability.

Pithing Needle is also a nice way to shutdown or at least delay my opponents while I try to catch up.
