What constitutes a ‘death trigger’

Asked by proterran98 1 year ago

I have Juri, Master of the Revue in play as well as Drivnod, Carnage Dominus. I sacrifice a creature token, does juri get 2 counters or one? Juri dies later, do I get to deal damage equal to his power once or twice?

700.4: The term dies means “is put into a graveyard from the battlefield.”

Even though the token likely died as part of being sacrificed, the sacrifice event on Juri is seperate from the dying. She doesn't actually care if it died or not (If it got exiled by Leyline of the Void she would still trigger). As a result Drivnod won't give an additional trigger.

Juri says "when she dies", so Drivnod will give an additional trigger when Juri dies because it's a death trigger.
