Thrashing Wumpus : Can I tap 4+ Black mana?

Asked by koolking 4 years ago

Can I tap more than 3 mana to do more than the 3 damage Thrashing Wumpus can take if I announce that I am doing it all at once?

TIA, RS

Thrashing Wumpus's ability doesn't have any restrictions on how many times you can activate it or when, so yes, you could activate it more than three times in succession. What you would do is respond to the ability on the stack by activating it again, until you've activated it the number of times that you wish.

Abilities on the stack exist independently of their source, so even though the first three to resolve would result in Thrashing Wumpus dying, the rest will resolve successfully and deal their damage to what/who remains.

It is important when you respond. The way priority works is that each player will get a change to respond to each thing on the stack. Once you activate the ability of Thrashing Wumpus, you are the first person that gets a chance to respond. If you don't, each other play will get priority. If no one does anything, the Wumpus activation will resolve. So, if your Wumpus will die, you must activate it's ability the desired number of times. Otherwise, you might not get a change to do so again.

Yes, as mentioned, make sure you're holding priority and responding to it yourself the desired number of times. If you let priority pass around the table, the topmost item will resolve (unless someone adds something else to the stack), which may result in your Wumpus dying before you're ready.
