Playing Noble Hierarch in a sultan education deck.

Asked by Pheardemons 7 years ago

I understand Noble Hierarchs color identity is green, but being that she can produce white mana, am I allowed to play her in my Sidisi, Brood Tyrant edh deck? I know of the "rule 4" change that I could produce white mana if necessary, but does the fact that she produces white mana affect anything?

Stupid autocorrect. "Sultai edh deck."

"903.4. The Commander variant uses color identity to determine what cards can be in a deck with a certain commander. The color identity of a card is the color or colors of any mana symbols in that cards mana cost or rules text, plus any colors defined by its characteristic-defining abilities (see rule 604.3) or color indicator (see rule 204)." It's colour identity is white, green and blue, so you can't.

The removal of rule 4 meant that, during a game, you are now allowed to produce off-color mana. Meaning in a mono-green deck, a Birds of Paradise could produce if you wanted to.

Rule 4 does not coincide with determining color identity, however. Color identity is determined by, including, but not limited to, all mana symbols on the card, both in the mana cost and the text. The exception here being reminder text which is not used to calculate color identity (see Crypt Ghast or Blind Obedience).

Noble Hierarch's color identity is Bant (). Because it has in its identity, it is not a legal card to be included in a Sidisi, Brood Tyrant deck.
