How does the Brimaz, King of Oreskos blocking a creature work?

Asked by BGLENN68 9 years ago

I recently got a Brimaz, King of Oreskos but am not sure exactly how he operates. When he blocks, does the token block for Brimaz instead, or does Brimaz still take combat damage?

So when Brimaz blocks, the token he makes blocks that creature, as well as Brimaz. So if your opponent attacks with a Roaring Primadox , and you block with Brimaz. The Primadox will be blocked by both Brimaz and the cat soldier token, so the Primadox would take 4. Your opponent would then decide how to order blockers, i.e. kill the token or deal 4 to Brimaz.

If it was a replacement effect, it would say "instead" somewhere (as a rule of thumb), or in this case something like "Whenever Brimaz blocks a creature, put a 1/1 white Cat Soldier creature token with vigilance onto the battlefield blocking that creature. Then remove Brimaz from combat."

I think a creature that operated like that would be hilarious flavor. Like a cowardly general. "Uhhh.. uhh.. minion.. defend me!" tosses an underling in the enemy's path

When you assign Brimaz, King of Oreskos as a blocker, his second ability will trigger. This trigger, when it resolves, will put a 1/1 white vigilant Cat Soldier on the battlefield, also blocking that creature. Both Brimaz and the token block that creature (in addition to other creatures that may be blocking that creature), meaning that that creature's combat damage can be assigned to Brimaz, the token, or both split in some way.

cklise ... Cowardly General, (chuckle chuckle) ... "Here is a lolli-pop, now stand here for one moment"". LOL

cool Instant idea, Switch target blocking creature with creature not blocking this turn. it might be interesting way to get around an opponents "target creature blocks this turn if able". switch with a Deathtouch creature or his is a 4/4 and you switch with a 5/5 creature... kinda some neat possibilities there I guess, like a reverse "ninjitsu" Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni . is there cards out there like this "exchange blockers"?
