Does Protection from creatures prevent Sigarda's Aid from attaching an Equipment Creature to the protected creature?

As per the title, I have a creature that has Protection from creatures (for example, from Unquestioned Authority).
If I have Sigarda's Aid on the battlefield and cast + resolve an Equipment Creature such as Lion Sash, will Sigarda’s Aid still be able to attach the Equipment Creature to the protected one, or will it still be invalid target?
Gidgetimer That's what I thought, but I found this ruling and got confused.
702.16d: A permanent with protection can’t be equipped by Equipment that have the stated quality or fortified by Fortifications that have the stated quality. Such Equipment or Fortifications become unattached from that permanent as a state-based action, but remain on the battlefield. (See rule 704, “State-Based Actions.”)
This makes it sounds like that because the equipment is a creature, it can't be equipped in the first place, even though it would lose the creature type immediately.

edit: I just tested it on Arena. It does not equip
Arena has no pro creatures, so I used Blade of the Oni and Baneslayer Angel for the same thing. Oni's equip couldn't target Angel, and an outside effect could not equip Oni to Angel. As soon as I moved Oni to a different creature I could equip it to Angel.

Delphen7 found the right answer. This is further supported by some of the detailed rules for the "Attach" keyword action (quoting the relevant parts):
701.3a ... An Aura, Equipment, or Fortification can’t be attached to an object or player it couldn’t enchant, equip, or fortify, respectively.
701.3b If an effect tries to attach an Aura, Equipment, or Fortification to an object or player it can’t be attached to, the Aura, Equipment, or Fortification doesn’t move ...

In this scenario, it is the Sigarda's Aid doing the targeting. Protection from creatures will not stop a reconfigure equipment from being attached to the creature when it ETB.
