Anyone else dealing with the fires in SoCal right now?

I live on Camp Pendleton in southern California, and there have been several fires in the area. They evacuated a lot of CP already (including me). Are any of you having any issues with things like that?

I was going home today, and i take the 405 home each day. Well, i was one of the last cars to actually go through before they shut down the freeway. It was freaking scary! i couldn't see the car in front of me, and the fire was, AWESOME (sorry, pyro talkin here). Actually, i live less then a mile away from that specific fire, but i think that they got it contained.

For those that don't know, the 405 is a freeway and the busiest with the most traffic out of any in california.

oh wow, CommanderOfBolas! you have to deal with which fire? oceanside or escondido? Isn't there also a fire at san diego? BLAME THE ALIENS!

I have actually had to deal with worse fires. About 7 years ago, i lived on a mountainside. This mountainside happened to be very dry, hot, winds up to 110 mph, and full of brush. Every fall, there was always some Wildfire and there would be an Evacuation every fall as the entire mountainside was burned black. we finally moved into the city.

the one I had to directly deal with was the one on the naval weapons station (which is part of Camp Pendleton). If you know where Lake Oneill is, I live right over there.

I'm in Huntington Beach, so I don't see too many fires get out of hand. It is stupid hot though.

You californians and your street talk.

"Dude, I was trying to get down to Venice Beach for the weekend with my buddies, but the 405 was totally jammed so it took us like two hours to get to exit 65 so we could take the back roads around Colorado. Thing is, there was this crash in La Canada so all the damned rubberneckers were holding us up. I had to turn left, then right, then to No Ablo Espanol, then straight down to Long Beach before going back up the 405."

The golden state? More like the highway state.

how hot is it at huntington beach Unforgivn_II? It was 105 F where i was in the san fernando valley!

May 14, 2014 10:21 p.m.

It was 105 on CP today, too. we were having gusts around 60mph this morning, too.

@cschiller: LOL

@cschiller, more like:

"I woke up did my stuff and went out to the car. The streets were fine, and then i was stuck behind one of the very few buses in la. I mean like seriously, i had to be stuck behind this bus, it wasn't moving, and i couldn't go anywhere. I finally got around it and got onto the freeway. The freeway was good until sherman way, then it was not moving. After a half an hour, i got to the start of the santa monica mountains. there was an accident blocking off 2 right lanes and it got even slower. After another half hour, i got to wilshire and got off. Since today was a monday, it took me 15 minutes to go one mile to my office, and then was work. I don't know if you know, but us los angelers are quite lazy and don't like to do this work and this traffic crap" /rant

No fires, but the heat is unwelcome this early. This is a sign that we will get a fairly large El Nino later in the year.

miracleHat - oddly enough, the same. My car thermometer actually said 107. The internet said 102. Can't tell which is more trustworthy...

The thing that i most concerned about in SoCal is the water drought that we are in. I have family in northern california that joke around that when i visit, i won't be able to use their showers because i keep stealing the water.

@Unforgivn_II (what are the two ii things?), i have a resistance to heat for some reason. I was actually at the park shooting hoops earlier and i thought that it was like, 90 degrees...

zandl don't hate because you wish you could live here...

miracleHat i feel like we've been in a drought since before I was born lol

also, i don't remember hearing about a fire? I live less than 2 miles from the 405, then again, i usually don't use that highway. i must be living under a rock where all my news is MTG related

May 14, 2014 11 p.m.

miracleHat says... #20

Yeah, something like that. Hey, do you want to meet up again notamardybum? The news said that the fire was at nordhoff, but it was actually at the intersection of the 118 and the 405 (for those who know and care).

I'm down in San Diego for the weekend (rancho bernardo) and drove right past a couple fires on 15. Smoke everywhere. Its pretty crazy.

miracleHat - its two "I"s. Simple. Back in the day I was trying to find a good, catch-all username. I settled on this because I was listening to all the Metallica CDs, which my friend let me borrow. I wanted to go with Unforgiven, or The Unforgiven but I had to keep altering it until I got one that wasn't taken. Its kind if cool though, The Unforgiven II is an obscure enough song that only real fans get the reference.

Don't assume I want to live there, with your drought, smog, overcrowding, fires, unsolvable water problems, urban sprawl, unbearable traffic, and earthquakes, not to mention the high cost of living.

For the money I could buy a house with in CA, I could afford a mansion most anywhere else.

Ouch. Some of us were born this way, no reason to bash our lifestyle.

Not bashing; these are facts.

If I were bashing, I'd throw in your arrogant, elitist subculture, too.

Unforgivn_II says... #29

Dang, serious spite. You have a bad experience with California?

May 15, 2014 1:43 a.m.

wow, zandl, hurtful stuff. for the record, im here because of the military. not my choice. many others don't have the choice either.

dude, i work in San Clemente and live in Rancho Santa Margarita. stay safe, but aside from that...local playgroup time?

May 15, 2014 2:12 a.m.

Haha that would be pretty sweet to get together some time. I normally go to a place in Vista called Pair-A-Dice Games. Probably the best place I've been to for mtg. Great staff, decent prices (except for booster boxes. they sell them for 140).

May 15, 2014 9:24 a.m.

It's been 108 all this week here. And our A/C is busted. So it's actually cooler outside my house than inside it. Which is gross. I'm not looking forward to brownouts this summer.
