I feel like the banning of DDT will push dredge out of tier 1 with ease. I will agree that Jund is not a control deck, but it very well could be with the inclusion of Yahenni's Expertise and Fatal Push. With push, they have 8 1 drop removal spells, and they can expertise for a board wipe into a Lili for a discard or to make them sac anything that survived. Also, most often, expertise won't kill goyfs which makes it a good board wipe that jund can run. And I would like to point out that Fatal Push Can be used to kill a 4 drop if you fetch, edge, or quarter someone.

Yup, all of those need to go for it to be well rounded in my opinion. Those plus fetches, and everything that gets banned in standard becomes auto-banned in Frontier. There isn't as large of a card pool like there is in Modern. Much less answers means a much less healthy format.

January 18, 2017 3:45 p.m.

I have seen quite a bit at my local shop. We have a guy who basically built bant coco and has lost 2 games and no matches out of 3 matches every week for the last 3. i have seen games against every archetype and it seems like it is just an easy windmill slam of a deck. I don't know, COCO, fetches, its all just reminiscent of recent standard.

I am actually kind of upset with frontier. That concept to me means people are ok with Wizards god awful reprint policies and just like to watch people buy into a format only to see it fall out of favor because it gets too expensive. For pete sake, some decks in modern are on par cost-wise with legacy decks if you want to play the competitive versions. Also, why would people be ok with a format where coco will rule and have no real answers?

32 is plenty in derevi stax. You only really need 5 or so with a rock or 2.

January 16, 2017 7:43 p.m.

I would add Sun Titan as he can get back a lot of your lock out pieces. Also, I know they aren't cheap, but a mana crypt will help a lot along with a vault.

Lilbrudder, I was browsing Imperial Animar and came up with this gem of a budget-ish list.

January 14, 2017 7:58 p.m.

fair enough. Not a bad option for standard though.

YamishiTheWickedOne, I would like to point out the wording on Mechanized Production.

"Then, if you control 8 or more artifacts with the same name as one another, you win the game." It does not say they have to have the same name as the thing produced. If I have 8 tokens all named "Thopter", I still win.

Ruling from gatherer, "The eight artifacts with the same name dont have to have the same name as the enchanted artifact. For example, you win the game if you control eight Thopter artifact creature tokens as Mechanized Productions ability resolves, even if Mechanized Production isnt attached to a Thopter."

CanadianShinobi, as someone who has started to recently get into Legacy, it is not dying. At least not at the local level. I am part of a league that does proxy leagues for pauper, legacy and vintage. We have been functioning for about 6 months, swapping every month. We now have 25 people in our area who have pauper, and almost a dozen players who are building legacy. If anything, I feel like bans in standard will push people towards eternal formats like EDH modern and legacy. There are still plenty of options for people in other formats and sets like EMA and MMA will really help push that along. All modern really needs to be more available is a reprint of the Zendikar fetches in a standard block and it will be fine. And some decks do very well changing from modern to legacy such as fish and jund.

And I honestly feel like their are other options in Modern coming up. Twin was unfair as it wins in the same way and speed a Legacy combo deck does. I would know, it functions very similarly to Aluren except Aluren is a bad aggro deck that can win out of nowhere, where as Twin is a Control deck that wins out of nowhere. Twin was too fast and oppressive in my book. I have been brewing modern recently, wanting to get in and have had luck with bug control, mardu, and even jund control.

How do you feel you will fair combating against cards like Fatal Push and Yahenni's Expertise?

Well Yahenni's Expertise will hurt a lot then. Cast expertise, kills most stuff then use the free spell to shoot a single large target.

What is shelf?

January 9, 2017 7:44 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins, then leave. Stop playing. If you don't like the direction then don't play. Go play an LCG or something.

McSleuthburger, I don't play standard and haven't since KTK block so I really don't know how to speculate. I don't think we will see a straight replacement for Copter. It was the versatility and the ubiquity that killed it. It was creatively oppressive.

January 9, 2017 6:33 p.m.

No, McSleuthburger siege modification makes copter strictly worse. It is good because it dodges sorcery speed removal. You attack and your opponent can't do anything about it. I am more curious about how it would have been pushed down by cards like Fatal Push which is also and answer to Infect. it kills everything they have. costs 1 and is an instant. they drop a glistener turn 1 only to pump it for the turn 2 and lose it for 1 mana. cool i just 5 for 1'ed you.

Flash_Flayer, are you running Manamorphose? might be worth a look.

Any particular reason for Pay No Heed over Holy Day I feel like using pay no head is really only better against say, bolt. Also, how will you combat Fatal Push?

January 9, 2017 5:38 p.m.

The reasoning behind Copter is solid. It was almost required as a 4 of to be truly competitive which shut down creativity in standard. That is what that format is all about. Being creative and finding new ways to win. I am more curious about how people feel about Probe and GGT? I know dredge is officially dead now, but what about Git Probes affect on modern? Is combo going to be harder up now for good ways to see interaction?

Cool. Thanks for the info. How do you feel the bans will play into your game plan? I feel like with dredge out of the format, a lot of the graveyard hate can go. Unless you see a lot of grishoal brand.

Is that the same reason behind the wanderwine? Also, Chalice is an absolute must in this deck. At least 2 of in side, maybe 3.
