I hadn't thought about using it with Fulminator Mage -- That's pretty neat!

Not sure whether it'd be interesting for you or not, but Call to the Netherworld might be nice as a way to get a Demigod back to the hand so you can cast them again -- Zero cost if you happen to discard it with Tibalt too. The obvious downside being that if the Demis are exiled, the combo is pretty dead.

I'm pretty excited to see what SoI brings now that Madness is on the way back. Could just be reprints of Big Game Hunter and Nightshade Assassin but...

February 7, 2016 1:12 p.m.

I'm just going to throw this out there; Smallpox

Discard and hand control is going to be the way to really screw with the eldrazi, so stuff like Pox, Thoughtseize and InquiZek might be the way forward.

It IS slow though. Not like Rack is suddenly going to become tier one or anything, I'd say.

That's just me spitballing though.

And Skulk to be for

I agree; As cool as it is to think about the stitchers creating zombie eldrazi and seeing people possessed by the creatures, Lovecraft best used his creations as a lingering threat, not fully-embodied things. If anyone did see an elder thing, they went mad and often died soon after.

With the eldrazi, they're just corrosive in general. You don't need loads and loads of them in the set, it would take away from the gothic charm of Innistrad. The better story, as you say, is Nahiri trying to summon Emrakul rather than him just being there with a legion.

Set 2 we'll see an Emrakul, most likely, to round off the trio, but the less in the set we have, the better.

I'm hype for Madness -- Might actually work well with everybody's favourite Planeswalker, Tibalt.

More Devils? Yes please.

Also, Nahiri being a big ol' grump about Sorin leaving Zendi to die -- Wasn't he going to look for her anyway? Does that mean she's been on Innistrad since he's been bopping all over the Multiverse?

Delirium seems like a nice Goyf substitute -- Wonder how that'll go down in modern. Wonder what a rare or mythic delirium creature will be like?

The insanity and mystery theme seems really nice.

Oath of Nissa lets me spend any colour mana to cast planeswalkers.

I did, but even with the protection it's still one more mana to cast when I have Scepters and potentially Sculpting Steel at that 3-drop slot.

No no, thank you for the 2 cents and being constructive! I think you're right about being somewhat blinded by the net worth of the deck -- Modern is such an expensive format when you get down to it, but sometimes that's what wins in the case of Affinity, Tron and Jund/Junk but sometimes something cheaper dollar wise shakes up the competitive scene such as Bogles and Merfolk. If I could put a cap on the deck, I'd aim for around $500 but that, again, is being too mindful of the cost.

I honestly wouldn't mind going into two colours if it means getting a better deck out of the deal, but I'd be hesitant to go beyond two as, aside from dollar cost, the manabase becomes harder to juggle. Black would open up the deck to being able to deal with the hand through discard and maybe sideboarding creature hate.

It's something to consider... Thank you again for the input!

I get where you're coming from -- Against aggro this deck'll struggle until the 3rd or 4th turn, draws depending. That's why I'm looking at stuff like Spell Snare for the mainboard against turn 1/2 plays.

As I said above in one of the comments, splashing black is one of the options I thought of, especially for Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas more than Ashiok, but it had crossed my mind. the problem there is that it would make the manabase more complex than I'd like -- That said, going into another colour is simpler than playing a three-colour deck, so I'm keeping my options open there for a while.

Like you said, hand hate would be open to me. I wouldn't go for any processors though, leave them to the eldrazi players -- they'd just be taking slots away from my artifacts.

I've thought about Prototype Portal and Mirrorworks before as a means of creating multiples of the scepter, but the CMC of both, even with stuff like Etherium Sculptor and manadorks like Renowned Weaponsmith and Vedalken Engineer, is a bit high to be speedy and competitive.

Strionic Resonator would be nice, but I think it'd be a dead draw if you missed scepters.

I'd thought about him, along with Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas -- Moreso the agent variation, due to the lower CMC and inbuilt Ensoul Artifact, but splashing into black is going to make the manabase price skyrocket, and I wanted to keep it simple.

As for Tezzeret the Seeker the +1 is really, really nice, and I can immediately go -3 for the X effect to fish for Scepters and Steels. If it weren't a combo strategy and I had more stall & control, I'd absolutely include it.

That's what I thought in terms of the Scepter. I'm working on where to make room for the Ghostly Flicker at the moment.

DuTogira

It's not Self Mill -- You keep flickering Jester's Scepter to exile the top 5 cards of the other player's library until they have no library left, or at least enough to gut their strategy. It's pseudo-mill, honestly, and the Mill tag was the closest thing to it.

Evronian

I'd thought about Darksteel Forge but it can be a really dead draw when you don't have Master Transmuter which is why I went for more of a counter suite. Esperzoa is a really attractive prospect though, and I think the set of Vedalken Engineer are going to be the first things cut when I make the big changes.

See, I'd be rid of Vedalken Engineer first out of the two, seeing as I could then cast Scepters and Steels for 2 mana. It's a weird spot to be in -- One provides acceleration while the other reduces costs. The sculptors have that extra point of toughness which, while still small, could chump some basic tokens or one-drops. The other advantage to the Sculptor is that, if needed, I could use Ensoul Artifact on it and make it 5/5.

I haven't forgotten about the other ability of Jester's Scepter -- Its a nice resource to have when you've bounced three times and can counter something.

Cheers!

The only thing I tend to use Rings of Brighthearth in are Superfriends decks -- Too much value.

As you say, here it'd be a bit clunky, but it's the right idea!

Cheers for the +1!

Witchbane is definitely sideboard worthy as a 2fer, and if I still use Master Transmuter I can trick it in easily.

Spellskite is a good 2fer in the main deck, just need to make some room!

Cheers for the input!
