I did consider Ancients, but I want to keep my 4+CMC options to a minimum.

Redemption's a defender though, right? I don't really want to lean on those. Would be immense though, as a 13/13 that could become a 20/20.

Changes made.

And yes, I'm beginning to figure that much out. The goal won't be to cast Hagra Diabolist as soon as I get 5 mana, more reaching toward having allies available to eventually do so for the best effect. I'm far more likely to be flickering an Ondu Cleric before casting the Diabolist, so Momentary Blink will be available in the graveyard.

The other option is to hit 5 mana and play Immortal Servitude to bring back the 2-mana allies I have in the grave for the multi-trigger.

Esper seems like a great control path, and the only other option I can think of is going Azban for ramp stuff like Harabaz Druid and Turntimber Ranger to fuel HS through creature number.

Azban is more Aggro though, and since it's control I think I'll go Esper for now. I'll keep you posted on the updates!

Harsh Sustenance SHOULD be legal, it's currently in standard... Might just have to go in and fiddle around with it so it'll register, it wasn't released when I made the deck.

I'm not sure how aggro I'd even need to be seeing as the build is about life manipulation. If you have any more advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Nice primer!

Any opinion on my B/W allies? Focus is on maintaining creatures to use Ondu Cleric and Hagra Diabolist, so there's a bit of reanimator in there too.

Gotta be Mark Zug for me -- Old school cool

Ascendant Evincar

Chainer, Dementia Master

Batterskull

Cabal Patriarch

Plus, compare these Centaurs:

Centaur Healer VS Centaur Veteran

Best works for me are Chainer, Maralen of the Mornsong and Darigaaz, the Igniter
