scrapaholic09 Yes. That’s how it works. If you go the Sundial route, you may need ways to protect it and bring it back should it be destroyed. Things like Academy Ruins [it has gotten pricey now, hope they reprint it :)].

scrapaholic09, no worries :).

So suppose you bring a creature back to the battlefield with Sedris or Dawn of the Dead. Both Sidris and Dawn have an ability that the game is tracking. That is to say, at the end of the turn the creature that was brought back would get exiled. When you activate the Sundial you basically remove the game’s ability to track the exile clause and the creatures stay permanently. Let me know if that makes sense.

A “sac” outlet is something that will let you sacrifice a creature or permanent as an activation cost. Black has some of the best sac outlets for creatures and life. Examples would be Carrion Feeder or Ashnod's Altar. There are quite a few actually. Notice Dawn of the Dead does not have a clause saying “or if the creature would leave the battlefield”. This means you can bring a creature back with Dawn, sacrifice it using Carrion Feeder’s ability and rise and repeat once each turn. With Sedris you would need the Sundial to get the same effect because of his “leave play” clause.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Thanks for the elaboration. I see what you are saying. I think you would be able to get around the Sedris hurdle by using Sundial of the Infinite. If you have some sac outlets you would be able to get around the Dawn of the Dead hurdle as Dawn will not exile the card if you can sac it somehow. With the Sundial you might be able to do some Sneak Attack shenanigans as well so you are not taxed for mana when playing creatures.

Have you considered Tombstone Stairwell? It can help generate lots of zombies for you as well :).

Also, I do like the deck as is :). Just adding some food for thought.

I see. Thanks for elaborating!

The only other suggestions I can think of at the moment is some way to give your creatures haste like an Akroma's Memorial or Fervor [plus you get goblins on the art ;)].

If you are sacrificing creatures maybe a Vicious Shadows might be worthwhile, but not sure if it would be overkill.

Anyway, I like the deck! :)

June 12, 2018 5:36 p.m.

I see. That certainly would have backfired [still a little goblin like ;)].

To help with board wipes do you think something like Goblin Chirurgeon would be beneficial to you? It might be a good sac outlet for tokens to protect other creatures.

June 11, 2018 5:54 p.m.

Furnace of Rath and Dictate of the Twin Gods might also work well here to double up damage from Purphoros, God of the Forge.

June 11, 2018 4:45 p.m.

Have you considered Hostility with Purphoros, God of the Forge? You instantly make an infinite amount of 3/1 elementals with haste. Might be a little off theme though :).

June 11, 2018 4:42 p.m.

I think you may be better off picking a commander that will cater more to zombies. I like Nekusar, the Mindrazer, but he really works best with wheel a strategy. Just something to consider. My personal favorite for a zombie commander Thraximundar :).

Here is my zombie tribal deck I made a while back Thraximundar, Zombie Overlord. It may be a little dated, but hopefully you might find some inspiration.

Some recommendations for improvements would be to improve your recursion of zombies. Cards like Dawn of the Dead, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Cauldron of Souls, and Nim Deathmantle might be helpful.

Scapeshift might work quite well with Omnath, Locus of Rage and an effect like Purphoros, God of the Forge or similar effects. This deck is quite straight forward and under your budget, giving you a chance to make another combo deck [can you have too many? ;)]

For another idea take a look at this token strategy Tokens!.

I recently came up with a lifegain strategy geared more towards general damage Karlov Lifegain.

Hope you find some inspiration :).

Also, Animar is probably one of the more combo centric generals.

Point taken :). I do like the idea of including Gift of Immortality. How well/consistently does the deck ramp mana? What do you think about a Weathered Wayfarer to help tutor out a land like Rogue's Passage?

Torpor Orb seems like a good include since artifacts generally tend to stick around longer than creatures.

I also like Austere Command for the flexibility it might offer you when up against decks with things like Grave Pact effects. Then there is Scourglass and the expensive Soulscour.

Have you considered Seshiro the Anointed or Beastmaster Ascension. You can quickly overwhelm people if they do not deal with either. Devoted Druid and Quillspike work great with Hapatra. Take a look at my deck Poison and see if there is anything you like.

To help you decide. Try to have ~10 draw cards and ~10 ramp cards. Also try to get about ~3-5 board wipes and targeted removal each. It’s even better if you have cards that might fulfill multiple roles. From there think about what strategies/strategy you are going for. In other words, how would you like to win? If that plan fails, then what? Do you have a alternative win condition? Once you can answer that, keep cards that help the main and alt strategie.

LilGuy love the deck :). Reminds me how my friends laughed when I said I would make a Norin deck a while back. This made me want to go make some improvements. One combo I liked was Hostility a copy effect and something like Rupture. It’s amazing how many tokens you can generate:).

Looks like a fun deck. Have you considered Darksteel Forge to make all your artifacts indestructible?

June 8, 2018 10:21 a.m.

Have you considered Lifeline and/or Dawn of the Dead? Both might work well for what you are trying. I am trying to do something similar but slightly different with my Karlov Lifegain deck. Take a look in case you find some inspiration.

June 7, 2018 6:18 p.m.

Consider Cauldron of Souls and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed for creature recursion. You might also take a look at Lifeline (it benefits everyone, but it benefits you more). Leyline of the Void can remove your opponents benefits from Lifeline.

@Doctorlobo89 Thanks for the deck suggestion. I’ll definitely check it out.

Razaketh, the Foulblooded might fit in quite well. I do like the Necropotence for the card draw though. Gift of Immortality with sac outlets tends to work well. Thanks for the suggestions! I have more brewing to do now :).

June 6, 2018 12:17 p.m.

You have to try Nest of Scarabs. It works amazingly well with -1/-1 counters. Devoted Druid and Quillspike are amazing together. Definitely check out the Amonkhet block as it has a lot of things to do with -1/-1 counters. Check out my Poison deck. Hope you find some inspiration. Happy building!
