My main problem is that Venser is a slow blink, and one more mana than kaya. Even if I blink out Tezz with Venser, I don’t get an extra activation per turn, I just reset his loyalty, which isn’t enough for 5 mana. Almost everything else I need to blink consistently is a creature, so kaya does that, and is less of a dead card in bad hands. In my play testing Venser has ended up a dead card (and worse it gets me targeted because the ult is so good in most decks) much more often than Kaya. As a topper kaya can remove some problem cards like Tocatli Honor Gaurd and Hushwing Gryff for a turn so you can combo, or hold back a crazy creature so you can survive to dig deeper into your deck. It serves as a finisher in a combo, but even if it didn’t I think it would be better to run over Venser since the blink speed so are roughly the same and targeting non creatures isn’t the biggest deal for slow blinks. I’ve had many games where despite not getting combo, the repeated forced discard of Kaya can grind out games and bring the deck closer to combo control, it can be pretty disruptive to opponents.

beastofblades: I do want to run Tezzeret (I had him in here a long time ago and totally forgot he existed!), but I think I would cut Venser Sojourner over Kaya I think. Kaya can serve as lethal with a Felidar Guardian combo, and a nice form of recurrent card draw or removal. Overall Kaya is just much more flexible than Venser is. Hopefully I can get Rings of Brighthearth with Tezzeret, the ability to pull an additional combo piece would be nice.
