would Mutavault get a +1/+1 counter...

Asked by WARPOPE 9 years ago

from Steel Overseer's ability if Mutavault was a creature at the time of course?

Well first, it doesn't become an artifact creature because "artifact" is not a creature type. And second, even if it was an artifact somehow, the counter would go away because a land is not a legal target for counters.

artifact isn't a creature type but any permanent can have a +1/+1 counter Llanowar Reborn.

That accepted answer is incorrect: if a +1/+1 counter were placed on a permanent then that counter will remain indefinitely. While Mutavault is a land then obviously the counter doesn't have an effect so it just hangs out until it becomes a creature again.

Not sure which rule specifically applies here, but google "counters on mutavault" and you'll get tooooons of hits on this topic. I'm sure someone quotes the specific rule in one of those threads...

Sorry, the bit about the answer that says artifact isn't a creature type is correct: Mutavault will not receive counters from Steel Overseer. Artifact is a card type, not a creature subtype.
