Worldslayer versus Gift of Immortality

Asked by VictorSilvertome 9 years ago

If i have a Ruhan of the Fomori enchanted with a Gift of Immortality and equipped with a Worldslayer and I attack and manage to deal combat damage with Ruhan. Will the ability on Gift of Immortality still kick in even though both were destroyed at the same time?

Yes. Even if the creature and aura are destroyed simultaneously, the aura sees the enchanted creature dying, and its ability will trigger appropriately.

The reason for this is that a "dies" trigger is a special kind of "leaves the battlefield" trigger, and such abilities trigger from the battlefield and use information from the last moment the triggering object was on the battlefield to determine if and how they trigger. At the moment Ruhan was last on the battlefield, so was Gift, which means Gift's ability existed at the relevant time and it does trigger.

So just so I'm clear, both the creature and the Gift of Immortality will return (the former immediately, and the latter EoT), or just the creature?

Both.
