Will Displace cancel spells targeting the creatures?

Asked by wincinderith 7 years ago

Say I have a creature, and someone decides to cast a spell at it.

If I were to cast Displace, would the movement of the creature/s from the battlefield to exile and back cancel the effects of the spell?

Yes, when a card changes zones it becomes a new game object. This means that anything targeting the object will no longer recognize it as the target.

Just a bit of a follow up...If the spell targeted me, but affected all creatures I control, would the creatures I use Displace on be safe?

Generally not. In such cases (like with Bonfire of the Damned) the effect only cares that the creatures are objects controlled by the targeted player. The creatures aren't being targeted and so the spell doesn't get countered upon resolution. Now if you could Displace yourself...
