Will copying a creature trigger the ETB effect?

Asked by phrosen63 6 years ago

  1. For example: I have a Mirage Mirror and Duplicant on the battlefield. I use Mirrage Mirror to copy Duplicant. Will the new copy trigger the ETB effect?

  2. If yes: Can I pay two additional mana and copy Duplicant once more; triggering the ETB effect twice (in the same turn)?

  1. no, mirror is already on the battlefield - it cannnot enter something it is already on.
  2. You can pay two extra mana, but it will simply become a copy of duplicant again and will not create any ETB triggers for reasons mentioned in 1

Also, once it becomes a copy of Duplicant it loses it's ability to copy things, so you have to activate that ability multiple times at once so that the ability is already on the stack when the first one resolves.

Copying a creature can trigger etbs if the copy comes into play as a copy, such as in the case of cards like Stunt Double or Dack's Duplicate. Card like Mirage Mirror that become a copy of a creature after they are already on the field will not trigger etbs.
